I couldn't have asked for a better ACT course than the one offered at Testmasters. I took the Winter Break Cram Course, which crammed the entire regular course into two weeks of classes. In the class, I learned about new test-taking strategies, and I got a good review of all of the topics on the test. Most importantly, though, I got exposure to practice materials consistently throughout the course. I had to miss a few classes due to preexisting plans, and Testmasters was very flexible. They gave me access to the online course videos for the days that I missed so I could catch up on my own time. The teachers in the class were all really interesting, funny, and engaging. They knew my classmates and I were on vacation, so they put in a lot of effort to make the classes fun. Each day, lessons were filled with games and joke, but, even though we kept things casual and had a good time, the course was still super informative. (Testmasters also lightened the mood by bringing pizza or candy to each class, something they do for all of their courses.) Güs and Askari really stood out to me as excellent teachers. They knew their material well, and they kept class fun and exciting. For standardized testing, I believe that practice makes perfect, and I'm sure Testmasters would agree with me. Included with my course was Exam Club, a weekend service where you can go to a Testmasters location and take a practice ACT or SAT. Between the end of my course and when I took my ACT (February) I went to Exam Club every weekend possible. Each week, I saw my score go up a bit. I ended up getting a perfect 36 on the ACT thanks to Testmasters, and I would recommend their course to anyone looking for a standardized test prep program. read more

I took the prep course in the summer hoping for a 200+ score improvement for the August SAT but I did not see that. I attended the classes and realized that you can just get the same information from YOUTUBE. There was one tutor who was consistently late to the classes he taught and did not truly care about the "concepts" he was supposed to teach. He was on his phone the majority of the time. I also had the pleasure of ended my course with him and he just gave up before the full tutor session was over. He did not go in depth with the math concepts or explain how to even solve a problem. Do not sign up for this. You are wasting your money and time, go to a better course. They also do not give you a refund if you do not get your guaranteed 200+ score, only offering you extra classes. The worst service. After finishing my course, I requested extended access to the videos for just one more month. I completed the course several months ago, and they told me I would need to pay for all the months that had passed since the course ended -- even though I had no access to the videos during that time. This is absurd. Why should I pay for something I didn't use and never had access to? I had to reschedule my exam due to health reasons, and despite explaining my situation, the support team showed zero empathy and eventually just stopped replying to my emails. Now, with less than 15 days until my exam, I still don't have access to the videos. I'm willing to pay for one month of access, but they're demanding payment for over 6 months -- time during which I had no access at all. The pandemic really opened my eyes about supporting local businesses. We've tried to support locally and tip more! However, there is one business that I will not be supporting: Testmasters Stafford/Sugar Land location. The program is good for preparing students for the SAT. I sent both of my kids there; and I believe it helped them, so I've been referring students to their program. Summertime is a great time to attend this prep class. After 20 referrals, I am supposed to receive a $1000 bonus. However, I have referred 26 students and have NOT received my bonus. I have called numerous times to several of their staff with NO returned calls!! I even told them I would reach out to a reporter, and I also posted an honest review, so now I am on their "blacklist". I took SAT courses at Testmasters twice, once when I was absurdly young (summer after 6th grade, my mom wanted me to prepare for the Duke TiP test because she's extra) and once when I was a rising junior in high school. Their point-score-increase-guarantee-thing is the real deal, I went from a 1410 to an 1880 during the course in sixth grade and from a 2200 to a 2400 in high school. I definitely would not have gotten a perfect score had I not taken a test prep course, as I would always do terribly on the essays and needed the extra practice from exam club to do well. The teachers are incredibly fun and casual, and they keep the kids engaged by basically bribing them with candy and pizza, a technique that was largely successful to keeping everyone attentive. It was always really fun to be there, which I never thought I'd say about test prep until Testmasters made it happen. I credit these guys with my good SAT score more than myself. read more

Testmasters is a focused rigorous approach to taking the SAT. Back in the day it was pretty revolutionary - you'll learn skills such as eliminating answers, pacing yourself, vocabulary, reading, and math shortcuts. They helped me get a pretty decent score, and was more helpful than the other classes I had, including some strange comedy classes I took after school. Part of the preparation is learning to take the SAT seriously while getting the practice tests in so you're efficient on test day. College is getting more competitive, so you need every edge. Rockin' your SAT is one of the things you have major control over, along with grades. Even the smart kids don't wing this one. I wish I took a prep class for the GMAT; I ended up with a pretty average score, and I could have done much better. read more

In December, I purchased an ACT in-class review course at a discounted rate. I understand that I had to cancel it before the end of the current SAT class that my son was taking in December. We had every intention of taking the in-class ACT review course so that he could take the actual test this summer before he started applying to colleges until COVID hit. When we realized the severity of this pandemic and it was not getting any better, only worse, we decided to cancel the ACT review course on April 17 and ask for a refund. I emailed Testmasters twice before I received a reply of sorry but we cannot give you a refund. I proceeded to call the establishment on 4/24/2020 and spoke with a young man who said that they would not refund the money even though we are going through a global pandemic. I told him that I did not feel comfortable sending my child into a classroom situation due to COVID exposure and closure of all schools in our area. I also do not feel comfortable sending him to take the actual ACT test this summer due to possible COVID spread and exposure. Also, there were several ACT testing centers that cancelled their test in June. In April, we still were not sure of whether they would continue with their testing schedule anyways. Either way I did not feel comfortable sending my child into a testing situation or classroom situation with COVID spreading at an alarming rate. The young man on the phone told me that I could use the credit to purchase tutoring for subject areas that my son needed help in. I had until December to use these services. At the time, my son had all A's for his junior year and I did not see the need for tutoring at this time. I did ask if I could "gift " this ACT review course to a friend and their reply was yes but at full price which does not help me out at all. I am not even sure if I could find someone that would want it but I was trying to be reasonable and work something out. I am very disappointed in Testmasters response to my situation. Three of our high school aged children have taken classes or private tutoring at Test Masters. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! During private tutoring, my daughter's tutor was on his cell phone the entire session, and only stopped to help my daughter with a math problem if she asked him to show her how to do it. Even then, it took him a moment to stop using his phone, put it down and help her. After a brief explanation, he went right back to his phone. This is NOT the level of tutoring I was told she would receive when we paid ($138) for the sessions. Test Masters management was made aware of this issue and counseled the tutor. The tutor admitted to using his phone throughout the session. Management stood by the tutor stating that, "Independent work is one method that we use at Test Masters, so having her work problems on paper is acceptable." Frankly, she could have done that at home. While management admits that they frown on tutors having their phones out during a session they do not have policies against it. Our other children who took review classes for SAT prep did not benefit as promised from the instruction they received at Test Masters. Instructors were boring and the classes are just straight from a book they use with practice problems. You could have your child do this independently without spending a lot of money. My son enrolled in a SAT Chemistry subject test online course. There were several problems with the videos. They would go fuzzy and then just stop all together. There were also several errors of content in the videos. The book that came with the course was filled with mistakes and wrong answers. I tried to contact them several times and they refused to have anyone talk with me over the phone. I emailed them with the problems and they answered some of my emails with questions that did not help solve any of the problems. This is some of the worse customer service error. My student went for the test today( 10/31) at Gessner location. Its not a joke that the kids get up early morning and go almost half a day to take practice test - THEY ARE THERE TO IMPROVE THEIR SCORE....and here the instructors were fighting/arguing with each other over responsibilities...and my kid could not concentrate. The student's whole effort for today was a waste.....very unprofessional. Prior to this couple of months ago, at one weekend, when the test timings are 10-2, all kids were kicked out at 1.30 pm in the hot sun to stand out side instead being allowed to wait inside till 2.00 pm.. highly unethical. When the location is supposed to stay open till 2.00 pm then why not let students wait inside?? The instructors used for tutoring session ( extra tutoring sessions) are not up to the standards of teaching. Sometimes they don't event know what they are there for - reading or writing. My student got so frustrated after 3-4 tutoring sessions that she refused to go there for help. This was my second attempt with testmasters since my first child attended it as well. I gave them a second chance but now I am sure not to recommend it to anyone ....unless things change drastically. And by the way, if your student is doing new PSAT - GOOD LUCK because they cant even see what they did incorrect at gessner location -Testmasters said that students have to go to sugarland location to look over their mistakes - then why does Testmasters have two locations ????? read more

There are multiple poor reviews already online for this company and I would strongly urge people to stay away. We did not look at the reviews before signing on with this company and deeply regret not doing so. We initially signed up for an SAT online prep course. The materials were not much better than free online prep material from Khan Academy. The exams that are offered at the test center are not a simulation of the real test environment. Students just sit down and complete an exam on their own, and they are not timed or proctored and is a complete waste of time. Unfortunately, two weeks after signing up for the SAT prep course we also got swindled into signing up for an online SAT subject test prep course. The course was paid for but not activated. We were informed by the company that we could activate the course anytime until August of 2023. The subject test was canceled by the College Board in January of 2021. The company would not refund the now irrelevant course and in fact they still have the subject course listed on their website. When we requested that the amount paid be applied towards another course as a fair alternative, they refused to do so. The management is not responsive or helpful in anyway. Once the money is paid, they are unwilling to accommodate for any issues that may arise and trying to communicate with them is extremely unproductive and frustrating. There is no person to speak to concerning any issues and you are directed to email the corporate office where an anonymous corporate person emails back stating that there is no other means to resolve the issue. read more

One of my boy's improved his score by 110 points the other son had his score decline by 40 points. They did all the requirements of the course and are eligible for the 300 points guarantee. I am considering whether returning to Testmasters will be worth their time. The representative on the phone was helpful in explaining our options. After visiting the website, the times and location for the Score Improvement Program is very inconvenient for us. I am especially disappointed in these flat results since I had the boys take the SAT with no preparation at all the month before their Testmaster course. I called the person in charge to request onsite sessions because the videos weren't very helpful. His response was, "you passed the allotted time to have the session you need to pay half price", he was rude about it as well. There are entire areas of subject matter not covered in the Testmasters course. I had to spend time looking for reference in other books which consumed extra time which resulted in my failing the test. The test problems were also setup differently than sample problems. Very few were "familiar" if any. So much for "guarantee of passing". The Testmasters course is inadequate, as it does not contain a lot of crucial information and thus forces a student to turn to other references, which wastes valuable time. There are also many mistakes and missing material in the reference book mailed to me. Additionally, the problems in the course were very different from those I encountered on the test. Testmasters "passing guarantee" claims that in case of failure I'd be given an option to take the course again, but they did not honor this until I filed BBB complaint. They make false claims in their agreement that the "The notes and videos of the course are detailed and exhaustive", while even the PE exam Specification does not make this claim: "The knowledge areas specified as examples of kinds of knowledge are not exclusive or exhaustive categories". If you complain against them they threaten to report you to your employer, Engineering board, call you unprofessional, slow and worse. Test masters mail you 1 book and claim that's all you need. Check out PPI course summary. Their reference materials include at least 8 books. This is a superior course which covers by far more information than test masters'. I'm using these materials to study for the exam, and I understand the difference. Stay away from test masters. There are better courses out there that do not cheat you out of your hard earned money. read more

I signed up for the PE Exam Environmental Online Course. Though the quality of the material and instructors is high, the advertised subject matter is misleading. The course only covers the civil aspects for the environmental exam or the environmental aspects of the civil exam, but does not offer complete coverage of the environmental exam (which includes air, waste, site remediation, and health and safety). Certain segments of this site specify that this is partial preparation (portions of the site related to in person classes), but it makes no specific reference to this on the "online Environmental PE" segment of their website, and this is not known until materials are received. I acknowledge quality material, but write this review to forewarn others who may be looking at review courses that this one does not offer a complete approach. I have written Test Masters and suggested that they more clearly represent the course (in all segments on their website) and that they look to develop segments to cover the air, waste, site remediation, and health and safety for their own well being (and to avoid disputes with future students and legal counsel). read more
