Fried chicken combo with fries
Meghan R.

Stopped at Test Kitchen BBQ today for lunch. It was my first visit. The staff was very welcoming, offering us samples of several of the meats being served. I was overwhelmed by the number of options on the menu, and also confused about the differences between the combos, boxes, plates. I went with the fried chicken, which was delicious. My dad had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and collared greens and really enjoyed it. I got the biggest serving of fries with my chicken. I had a real problem with the ketchup they offer for fries, it's a no-name brand and it was gross. I'd like to go back and try the fried shrimp next time. (I'll take it to go, so I can have my home ketchup.) Definitely worth a visit!

Rib tip L, corn pudding, black eyed peas, bourbon sauce, corn bread, and pickles!

Been there twice now and seems like mostly regulars are coming in. Always a super friendly greeting when you walk in, and if it's your first time, well, "you're in need of a sample". Their brisket is perfectly jiggly-juicy so highly recommended! A big menu and haven't found anything I didn't love yet.

Tonight was our first experience at Test Kitchen BBQ and while the menu is expansive and the staff was nice and friendly, the food was just ok. We ordered the Medium Turkey Plate ($11.99)with sides of Cole slaw and mashed potatoes and the Medium Brisket plate ($13.99) with sides of baked Mac n cheese and baked beans. We also ordered an extra small side of corn fritters. The brisket (we asked for lean) was quite fatty. In fact half of it was fat. The flavor of the meat didn't require bbq sauce so that's a plus...but when half the plate is fat, that's not appetizing. The baked beans were tasty. The Mac n cheese was pretty bland. The Turkey was moist and flavorful but also fatty. The mashed potatoes were excellent and the Cole slaw was pretty tasty. The corn fritters were really good.

Flew in town for wife's siblings Navy graduation, and was hungry looking for a place to eat. Found this lovely place close by to the hotel. Stacy greeted us and we said it was our first time. She instantly offered samples of what meats there were available to help us make a decision. Not just Stacy, the whole staff was friendly. We got the rib-tip and brisket with sides of baked Mac and cheese, rice and beans, potato salad, and collard greens. Food was so good we finished everything. Definitely will stop by again when we are ever in town again.

Large Rib Dinner. Enough food for 2, but I was greedy! *oink*

Great bbq, quirky hours. It's Part of the Browns Fried Chicken and is only open on the weekend.

I don't understand how their pork shoulder is MOIST! I've never had moist pulled pork from a BBQ…read moreplace before. Not even in Texas! They must either mix their own mild sauce or have it made just for Hillery's because it wasn't some cheap, off the shelf crap just to marginally fit a function. I wish I'd have known ahead of time so I could have gotten more (someone made a lunch run since there is no delivery). I don't really have words for the rib tips other than OH MY F****** GAWD! How the heck does someone have rib tips that meaty, that dense, that tender? Even reheated, they rock!

I was craving rib tips today and a few friends who live in the area always tell me to come check…read moreout Hillery's. I have never been and didn't really know what to expect. Inside, it's nothing fancy. You pretty much place your order at the counter and wait around for your food. No tables or chairs to sit at, so basically it's just a takeout place. Looks like they do cater as they have different sized pans on display for you to see how much food it can fit for your party size. I was craving some bbq and some sides such as Mac n cheese and collard greens and was disappointed that they did not carry either or. Their main sides were fries, coleslaw, and fried okra from what I can remember. I decided to go with the rib tips dinner. I ordered the extra large portion as I was going to share with the hubby. Took about 15 minutes for my food to be ready, so not bad. It came with fries, coleslaw, and 2 pieces of bread for a total of $20. The rib tips were 'aight. The meat was a little tough to chew and not falling off the bone as I normally like. Also, they were cut in huge chunks and not really in bite sized pieces. The sauce was okay but it did not really blow me away and neither did the coleslaw. The fries were pretty bland as well and could have used some more salt or seasoning. It didn't even come with ketchup in my carry out bag. Overall it was meh. I still would like to try their wings some other time and see how that goes.

This place has amazing Korean chicken wings! They are made to order so don't expect food right…read moreaway. The wings are super tender with a perfectly crispy coating. My go-to flavors are the Cheesking and the Mala Spicy--both are packed with flavor. For me, the real standout for me was the tteokbokki. The sauce is incredible--it has a mild sweetness from tamarind that really elevates the whole dish and keeps you coming back for more. I'd honestly come back just for that sauce! I had to order one to go. The chef even came out after our meal to check in and offered candy to all the kids. Such a thoughtful touch--great hospitality all around. Definitely come support them when you're craving wings!

Overall: 4/5 Food:…read more5/5 Price: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Came here for dinner and got the Kimchi Fried Rice, and the Garlic Honey boneless chicken. The food was on point! The crunch that Korean fried chicken has, always amazes me. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was delicious. I really appreciate that they use boneless THIGHS and not chicken breast. The chicken THIGH meat is dark meat and juicy, while white meat just drys out so easily and fast. The Kimchi Fried rice was good too. It's got a little heat on it, but when you eat the cold pickled daikon with it, it has a nice balance. If I'm ever back in Great Lakes IL, I'll doubleback fasho! Might be hittin this place one more time before I leave! My only constructive criticism would be to allow 2 flavors on the 10 piece and higher. I could only get 1 flavor, and there were so many that sounded good, I would've loved to have tried 2 flavors.
