As a queer Black/Asian couple, we were concerned with finding the right vendors for our wedding, who we could trust to be genuinely good to us. AMA has an incredible track record of working with queer couples and couples of color, which gave us so much peace of mind. Hiring AMA ended up being one of the smartest decisions we made in this entire process. From the initial budgeting conversations and all the way through our wedding weekend, Chanda and her team at AMA were helping us at every step, and our lead planner Tim'mya was very involved throughout. AMA found most of our vendors for us, and every vendor they brought us turned out to be excellent. We appreciated that for each vendor, they'd come back with a few thoughtful options that fit our vision and our budget, and we could just pick the one that felt the most right. The whole process felt genuinely collaborative: we'd tell them what we were dreaming up, and they'd find a way to make it happen. We constantly had several different ongoing threads in our planning portal, and we never hesitated to throw a half-formed idea into one of them in the middle of the night. In general, we'd wake up to find Tim'mya already working on it. Our wedding was a fusion of our two cultures, Chinese and Black American, and we were ambitious about how to present that blend in every detail. One of our non-negotiables was a venue that could do a custom menu drawing from both of our backgrounds and actually do it well, since we placed a huge importance on good food. AMA understood that immediately and helped us find exactly what we wanted. When we couldn't track down dumpling baskets at a price that made sense, Tim'mya went as far as sourcing a supplier from China (tariffs ended up killing the plan, but nevertheless this was above and beyond). Tim'mya never told us that something couldn't be done, and instead helped us think of creative solutions that would fit with our vision, without compromising on quality. AMA helped us pull off a truly demanding wedding weekend, which included a welcome party, the ceremony and reception, and a farewell brunch across three days, each with its own menu and dress code. AMA brought a full production team that handled all of our decor setup and kept us on track the entire time; our planner was running around nonstop so that we could just enjoy ourselves. It even surprised us how much we loved every single piece of it. After the welcome party alone, we turned to each other and said that if that had been the whole celebration, we'd have walked away happy. Then, the ceremony and reception was where our vision really came to life. A lush greenery installation floated above us during the ceremony, and at the reception our sweetheart table sat beneath a white backdrop cut with our family name, a gold dragon centerpiece in the middle, with wild tropical florals spilling over everything. We wanted to make sure the event was vibrant and colorful, and the details turned out even better than we imagined. Most of all, AMA gave us the freedom to be present at our own wedding. Yes, she texted my day of coordinator at 5 am ON THE DAY OF MY WEDDING, saying she wasn't going to be there at the agreed upon time of 10 am, saying she'd be there at noon then showed up at 1 pm. Hit the trees of the venue with her truck. Brought the wrong cake stand so I sent $220 for a cake table and had to use the cardboard from the baker. My flowers had awful metal pieces and zip ties on them. I was embarrassed of what I had for my wedding party. Let alone my colors had gold and she put silver all over everything. Then she didn't show up to pick up her stuff at the time she said she would the following day and asked me to keep them another day, even though I'm out of state. If you want your wedding to go wrong, she's definitely your girl. Too bad zero stars aren't a thing.

If she missed my call she returned it within minutes. Things got hectic leading up to our wedding day, and we couldn't get all the minor details to her. She reassured me she would make everything look great, and that's exactly what she did! There was also another Courtney helping her the day of, and she was amazing too! My son wanted to sit with his cousins, but of course that day he changed his mind and wanted to sit with us at our sweetheart table. Courtney took care of it within minutes, and brought his plate of food. Both Courtney's treated us like VIP's and we didn't have to do a thing! They had to switch an item in the timeline because the sun was setting and BAM it was all taken care of. Really all we had to do was tell Jackie what we wanted, drop off all of our materials 2 days before, and leave it all up to her. She was professional, communicative, and caring. The one thing I REALLY appreciated out of Jackie, was that she was so lax on the day of our wedding. She ran things along so smoothly but also didn't keep us to a super tight schedule and let things run it's course naturally. Even though the reception seems long, it's a lot to fit in in a short amount of time but Jackie didn't rush us or make us feel like we needed to do things at the exact moment the timeline was laid out. I didn't once feel wound up and she made me feel super relaxed. She also decorated all of the tables beautifully and really put together what I had envisioned and planned for for months. It was executed perfectly and all of our guests kept complimenting the venue and decorations. She also packed up all of our stuff at the end of the night so we just had to hop into the limo. Jackie always checked in with me and made sure I was ok, hydrated and atleast ate something. She kept checking in on me like a big sister and it was so sincere. When we hired Alicia (more than a year before our wedding) we thought we were getting someone experienced. What we failed to realize is that we would end up with someone burnt out (my MIL noticed right away and only met her once) who just wanted to create a cookie cutter wedding. She has her go-to venue in Napa and also claims she has done lots of weddings in the city. But she is not a top planner, at least not in San Francisco. Look at her reviews. If you notice, most of them worked with Jessica. (I didn't get to work with her until the day of and she was confused because she wasn't engaged from the beginning!) Alicia has been doing this for 10 years and only has a handful of good reviews. She gives you a spreadsheet that she makes you fill out as a couple as a "getting to know you." The ironic part is, she hardly reviews it or even cares to go through it with the couple. She skips almost all the meetings to try to book future appointments and leaves you with her assistants, even though you've paid for full planning. She lets her "team" take care of everything but they don't communicate, so you find yourself having to explain things over and over again. She also doesn't take responsibility when things go wrong. Instead, she just pushes the blame to the vendors. She'll also steer you away from your design if she doesn't have the rental items in her back room. She'll tell you that things are unavailable in the Bay Area, until you do a google search yourself and tell her to help you source what you find. I could go on and on, but if you are a bride that wants to enjoy your wedding planning process and day, do yourself a favor and get a real planner who wants to make your wedding dream a reality. When I realized that Alicia K Designs was a huge disaster, I had to re-engage the wedding planner I worked with before moving to California from the East Coast to help me with my ideas and designs. After the wedding I tried to work things out with Alicia but she just ignored me because she had already been paid.

Alicia definitely knew the venue well and had a good relationship with both Kunde and our caterer (Park Avenue). This expertise definitely came in handy in working with the venue and vendors. Specifically, Alicia's team handled the lighting for the event well, even despite a completely new setup at Kunde after they renovated/landscaped their hilltop. The entire setup was perfect and the flow was great. Our guests (plus us) had such a great time and it was a wonderful event. My initial consultations with Alicia were great but there were some issues with some of the later follow-ups. She delivered the initial proposal over a month later than was promised and because of this our timing was quite condensed. I responded to everything she sent to me within 24 hours but she was continually delayed in getting back to me. I only mention this because I felt pressed towards the end to approve the proposal even with some minor errors because we had run out of time. Also, she passed off our wedding to her coordinator (Jessica) as we got closer to the event. Although in our contract it stated that Alicia herself would be our key contact leading up to and including the wedding day it was actually Jessica that became our main contact. Jessica was wonderful and very attentive but there were slight issues with timing for the day-of. Not a big deal, but I was frustrated because I was promised Alicia would be on-site including a guarantee the morning of the wedding. The wedding itself was absolutely fantastic - again Jessica did a great job and will continue to develop into an excellent coordinator. I think their team is definitely a solid team to use, I just had some minor issues with feeling passed along but nothing that wouldn't stop me from recommending this team to future brides.

From the very first call we had, Morgan was prepared, well-spoken, and gave a detailed overview of what the various packages entailed. I really appreciated that she gave us the overview because I didn't know what questions to even ask initially, whereas some other vendors' intro calls tended to be more Q&A style and I didn't quite know where to begin. After booking Savant Garde, Morgan was responsive with one-off questions we had several months before the wedding, and she was great about checking in and making sure all the boxes were checked. About 3 months out, we had an extensive call where Morgan went through every little detail with us, bringing in her expertise and giving advice where she could. Every time we chatted with her we felt so much more reassured and relieved about wedding day, which was truly priceless. She did an amazing job reaching out to the rest of our vendors, setting up walkthrough and rehearsal, and answering all of my anxiety fueled questions with patience and non judgment. On wedding day, Morgan and the team were spectacular in setting up the venue, and just being there for us in any moment, no matter how big or small. She was a calming presence for us: the team made sure we had food and drinks, kept us all on schedule, and even ran up to the bridal suite to help me grab an allergy pill from the deep depths of one of my purses when I had a minor allergic reaction to something in the middle of the evening (thank you!!!).
