On a walk in Lisbon, we noticed a sign showing that there was a Michelin Guide restaurant and immediately went to see if we could get a reservation.
Overall it was an interesting meal, but it's not the best tasting menu I've had. We never got a printed version of the menu, so I'll summarize what we had.
1. Starting with this fun tree, we had some sort of shrimp with sauce that tasted like chipotle-mayo to me. The second item was deep fried, though we didn't quite catch what it was. The third was a beef tartare 'taco'. These were all good, and not technically part of the 5 course menu. Also, I got the drink the server recommended and it was way too sweet :/
2. This bread really threw me. Our server came out with bread, olive oil, a block of something, and a shredder. I didn't catch what the block was, and embarrassingly asked what kind of cheese it was. It was frozen tuna!! It didn't really taste like anything, but god I wish they did cheese instead. The bread wasn't really warm or notable, so it was a fairly bland appetizer.
3. This was actually really yummy. The flavors came together super nicely with the beef, fennel, and [a fruit I can't recall the name of].
4. This dish was soo good. The broccoli was cooked well, and the cream had caramelized hazelnut. It tasted like gelato, yum!
5. This white fish was great too, I'd consider it perfectly cooked. The flavors didn't do much for me here, but it still made a nice dish.
6. Here we had boar, a beet/blueberry 'salad, and a beet that had some shredded meat in it. This was my first boar experience, and it wasn't bad! It definitely didn't taste gamey which I had feared. The beet/blueberry salad was sweet and helped with any lingering gaminess of the meat. The beet was hallowedout and filled with a mystery meat, it was fine. Nothing to call home about.
7. Dessert: vanilla pannacotta on a white chocolate-pistachio base. The texture of the panna cotta was a bit off for me. To the side was green apples and a matcha ice cream, as well as three dots of a lime 'sauce'. Each component was good, but I didn't understand the dish when put together.
8. Ehhhh.
There's def more style over substance here. The restaurant itself wasn't very special, with pretty standard style and feel. The bathroom wasn't Michelin quality, which I know isn't everyone's concern when dining, but if a place is special I think it should feel special! read more
