Vince from Var came in and gave me an estimate and lickety-split they were making an appointment to fix my poor house's problems! Leaky roof is no longer leaking and my kitchen sink drains like a dream. They did a fantastic job on the plaster repair, which included putting up drywall and chairrailing and wainscoting (at least I think that is what it's called. . it's the square boxes made with thin wood pieces). Whatever it is called it looks awesome. The workers involved me in all decisions regarding the details so the final outcome would be exactly what I wanted. My only regret is that I decided to do the painting myself. For the time I spent on painting, I should have just had Var Construction do it for me (silly girl). They were prompt, NEAT, and very nice. I have a little one at home too and they did their best to keep the noise level down. FYI - I just got a flyer that they are now located at 3396 Miller Street (19125)

Throughout the process he was ARGUMENTATIVE, UNCOMMUNICATIVE and often blamed his workers for errors but made no effort to correct the errors unless we specifically asked for corrections. He WALKED OFF THE JOB in October, leaving a partially completed kitchen, and then demanded nearly full payment for a job he didn't finish. Every subsequent contractor we've had in to assess the remaining job has remarked on the POOR QUALITY of his workmanship. We are still finding mistakes that need to be fixed (electric outlet pulled out of the wall, toe kick board in wrong spot). If you want a well-done remodel, DO NOT HIRE.

The estimate included removing the flooring, installing new flooring, paint, brick work, etc. Months went by before we heard from them! We asked for a contract which was promised and eventually provided after many requests. After asking for some minor changes to the contract R. Volpe sent us a note saying his schedule was to busy and they could not start our job. That was on 3/12/2024, 16 months after sending the estimate! I try to be understanding, things don't always go as planned and there are many factors that contribute to a successful outcome but 16 months with hardly any communication is poor business practice. R. Volpe Builders may be good craftsman but their business communication and follow up is wholly inadequate! Thomas W.

THE JOB: KITCHEN I am really impressed with this business…read morefrom start to finish! From the beginning Ray (the owner) was accommodating. He listened to my design ideas and calculated a price that was the best of three estimates that I got. As the job unfolded, there were a few design changes that needed to be made. Despite this, he kept to his estimate and the price was as expected; there were no surprises. He is fully licensed and insured which is another testament to his professionalism. The job was a total redesign of a kitchen. He has a full crew of skilled workers led by a Project Manager named Joe. Joe is equally talented and was there working the whole time and Ray would check in periodically. There was an item on the contract that said "daily cleanup" which I really didn't expect to be much. My past experiences have always been pretty messy but these guys really respected our home. They swept up and vacuumed at the end of each day and were always respectful of our space. The debris really didn't carry outside of the area being worked on which was another bonus. The only part of the job that they didn't do themselves was the hardwood floor. For this, they brought in a floor company to install and finish. I have to say this floor guy was not at the level of Sunray. The floor turned out fine except for the threshold between the old floor and the new floor. Ray looked at the final product and apologized to me saying, "please let me come back and fix this." The job was otherwise completed and paid in full. They came back and fixed it themselves and it looks awesome! The kitchen is beautiful and we couldn't be happier. I would absolutely recommend Sunray Construction for your next project. They earned a repeat customer with me and I will definitely call them again.

Rick, It is not accurate to characterize me as someone who…read more"complains about everyone." The concerns I've raised are specific and documented. Regarding the floorboards: two representatives from Avalon Flooring have inspected the work and documented that sections were not properly nailed into the studs. They also documented the condition of the installation. While the carpet installers did open the corners, Avalon has stated that this occurred due to faulty installation. They kindly caulked areas that were never caulked during your install. You were paid to install and caulk the floorboards and complete the job. The work was never finished. Nail holes were not filled or sanded as discussed. Caulking was incomplete. Portions of trim were never installed. Despite this, you were paid in full in cash before completion because I trusted the work would be finalized. Additionally: Sealing paint was applied to walls. Wet spackle was painted over. Spackle was dropped on brand-new carpet. Scheduled dates and times were repeatedly changed. The electrician you recommended completed work without pulling required permits. These are factual concerns supported by photos and text messages. This is not about complaining. It is about incomplete and substandard work that required additional time and expense for me to address. This is only part of the lazy way Rick works. Spray painting in my home. Sloppy work done and took 6 weeks because of changing dates and times. Sweating at the Avalon employee was over the top. The level of unprofessionalism is astounding. He only ever refutes the boards. Not anything else. Point is, Rick took my money and didnt finish the job!!!!!!!
