We really enjoyed our dinner at Terracotta a few nights ago. It is on the second floor above a popular bar where they have a packed weekend crowd in the plaza outside. The entry was through the back door of the bar and up the stairs. It is listed as a vegetarian place on some sites but we found that it had both fish and meat dishes as a regular part of the menu. We started with appetizers, a platter of historic Sicilian cheeses, which was good but unremarkable. The second appetizer dish was baby octopus in a rich tomato sauce, Polpo alla "Lucianna"mmmm! Delicious! Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of that dish which I really enjoyed. We ordered a nice bottle of wine from their extensive wine list which was great as were most of the wines we had in Sicily.
For our main course, I ordered the Capocolo di Suino Nero dei Nebrodi con peperonata, pork neck steak served over sweet peppers, while my wife had a grilled white fish, most likely Bronzino, which was served on a bed of potatoes, green olives and tomatoes. Both were delicious. We finished our dinner with a dessert, a light lemon flavored cream with sweet strudel sheets, covered with small strips of fresh sliced apple. It too hit the spot.
The service was attentive with two pleasant women taking care of our table. This place was quite intimate and we felt well cared for during each phase of our meal. Once again, the quality and service we found in Italian restaurants was of a high standard which seems to be the norm in that country. read more
