I would like to tell all of you who are considering a care home for yourself or a loved one to pay…read morea visit to the Windermere Care Centre. My husband and I visited several to help us choose a place for my mother who has dementia. We looked at private and public institutions. Windermere does a mix of private and public, meaning that you can ask to be admitted and pay privately or hope that the public system puts you in there first. If the system puts you in somewhere else you can let them know that Windermere is your preferred place. My husband and I visited the centre separately but came to the same conclusion. We felt that the atmosphere was more convivial than most other places. As well there seemed to be a good mix of male and female residents as well as staff. Everyone seemed happy. My mother has been living there now almost 8 months and I am so grateful that we have made the right choice. Our hunch was accurate. The staff is very respectful, kind, courteous and cheerful not just to the residents but to each other as well. I don't think I could ask for better treatment for my mother from a private institution. In fact I have been told by someone with first hand experience that the treatment her mother received at a private institution was horrible. I hope you will visit the place and ask for a tour. This place truly is as good as it gets. God bless every member of staff.

Great care givers and that is the most important factor. Food is good. Friendly place.read more

The residents appear to be happy and well-looked-after. There are many organized activities, a wide variety of foods and services, and our Mom feels safe and at home. We feel lucky that this assisted living facility is in the neighbourhood she's lived in and is so familiar with. I highly recommend Chalmers Lodge for families who want good quality, but for whom the budget is still a consideration.

If i can give this place zero stars I would. It has already been two years since my grandma's stay…read morethere but I feel that I need to say something as they are very irresponsible. My grandma was there two year ago because she had a hip surgery VGH sent my grandma to Braddan private hospital. One night during her stay, my grandma fell when trying to get out of bed. Our family understand that it was because my grandma tried to get out of bed which is why she fell so we cannot blame the hospital for her fall. But how the handle the situation was very poor. We were not only not notified right away, . When we arrived there the next morning the nurses did not even mentioned that she fell. It wasn't until my grandma back pain gotten worst in the afternoon and we asked the nurses to send her to the hospital, then the nurses hesitantly tells us that she fell the night before. When we asked why we were not notified right away they kept repeating that they "called her family doctor" and avoiding our question. They told us that they "examined" her and said that she was fine as does not need to go to the hospital. They also told us that my grandma will lose her spot here if we do. After my mom argued with the nurses, they finally agreed to send her to the hospital and . When we got to the hospital it turns out that fall had fractured her spine. Even the doctors asked why she wasn't sent in sooner. Aside from that incident, there was one time I saw a elderly man walk out of the facility. A couple minutes later a nurse began asking another nurse where a patient is. I heard that that patient was a elderly man so I told her what I saw. The first nurse asked the second nurse to go outside with her to look for him. The second nurse told her that her wanted to check the other floors first. The second nurse came back in less 5 min and began talking to another nurse(I think she was in charge). She kept telling that nurse how a patient left the facility, how he does this all the time, and how she looked "everywhere" for him. The first nurse found him eventually, but aside from that one nurse, the others didn't seem to care about that patient's safety at all.
