She has taken the time to not only just respond quickly but to respond in such detail that I forward her message to the family members enquiring. I know she and her team truly care about the seniors and the family they are caring for. There seem to be many pop-up shops for home health care and for an unregulated industry that can be a potential nightmare. I know that Shylo has qualified, educated and insured caring staff. Any family member that has the huge responsibility of caring for their loved one will sleep better at night knowing Margot's staff is looking after them.

My appointment with this clinic and doctor, was a first time experience, and required that I check into the hospital's 'Registration' on the main floor before proceding to the Medical Day Care Clinic. A first time appointment procedure to provide personal and medical information, and acquire a completed registration form to take to Medical Day Care and doctor's office for check in. After the form was completed I was able to go down to Medical Day Care - Hematology, located on the basement level of the hospital, and submit the form to attending office staff. And then waited along with others, in the hall's adjoining waiting area outside the office, for my appointment time with the doctor. The Physician, Dr Vicky Chan (Hematologist), conducted a very interesting, and highly-interactive discussion with me of the reports she had received from my family doctor, and medical lab. Many questions regarding the nature of the diagnosed medical condition were asked, and answered. I left her office with a medical lab requisition to acquire further, and more extensive blood analyses -- just in case previous tests had missed any factors involved in the blood condition as shown. A big thank you to Dr Chan for her caring personal approach and help. And thanks to all other staff for their friendly, and efficient services - every step along the way was handled so smoothly.

Worst hospital ever. Very long waits. Unsafe location for patients. Gurneys lined up one after…read moreanother directly outside rooms divided by curtains. There was no room for staff or patients to get between the gurneys. They had to be continuously moved if someone needed to get through. Gurneys lined the hallways didn't have call bells, so no way to tell anyone you needed anything. I'm surprised it was even allowed, as it seemed like an accident waiting to happen, especially incase of a fire. There was a nurse seeing a patient in one of the curtained off rooms. The patient became aggressive, and the nurse called for help. Fellow ER staff and security couldn't easily access the area because there were rows of gurneys with patients blocking the way. A definite security issue for both staff and patients.

Plus these doctors have often ordered tests here, too (i.e., MRI's, respiratory tests, specialty stress tests and radiology tests and more). Every time, I've been treated respectfully and everyone has been super professional. (I should add, for many years I worked as a paramedic in the States, and as a phlebotomist and EKG tech in major hospitals and doctors' offices alike, and in medical labs. I am quite familiar with the medical field, and my expectations - and I suppose, my standards too - are very high. And I will add that I am the WORST patient too, which adds another element to my experiences as a patient. So when I say that the office staff, X-Ray techs, phlebotomists, respiratory techs, doctors and nurses and aides have all been excellent with me, that says a lot). The other night was my first time going to the ER here. (Long story, don't ask. All is well). As a medic, I know how ERs work. They are hectic, often chaotic spaces with a large element of the unknown going on (a result of the variety and amount of patients there and what their issues are, as well as staffing and more). I was originally going to go to VGH but I checked online and the wait time there was nearly 8 hours whereas at St. Paul's it was 2.5 hours. I'm so glad I went to St. Paul's. Yes, the ER department is run-down and dated. Yes, many of the patients there were either drug addicts or homeless folks (or both), and/or had mental-emotional issues. The walls are dingy, there's no privacy in the waiting room (AT ALL. I found it startling TBH that there was a "blood draw" station in the middle of the waiting room, and I prayed I wouldn't have my bloods drawn here as I am a tough draw and, as mentioned, I am the WORST patient). So, yeah, the accommodations here are definitely NOT plush, nor are they modern. All that said, the staff working here in the ER when I visited were UNBELIEVABLE. As in, unbelievably GOOD. The tech who registered me in, the triage nurse, the radiology tech who brought me back for a CAT scan, and finally the doctor who, thankfully, checked in with me and then had me go into a separate room to discuss their findings (I was fine and could go home. Yeah!). All of them were incredible. SO professional, so on top of everything, very efficient. I know I must have been prioritized fairly high on the ladder, as I was seen, scanned and consulted with and discharged within 90 minutes. I know that is NOT the norm, but I also know I had the potential for having something serious, and they had to rule it out promptly. And they did. And I am ever so grateful. I'll add two things: I saw the doctors and nurses and aides talking to patients and treating them respectfully, whether the patients were drug addicts, homeless folks or well-dressed grandmothers there with their families. We were all treated equally and professionally. Also, I should not that, within the year, St. Paul's is moving to a huge, new, state-of-the-art hospital by Central Station, behind the Science Center. I've seen tours of the new facility on tv and it blows me away, how modern and spacious it is. So the days of the dated, dingy hospital here on Burrard are numbered. Very soon, this new hospital is going to be as wonderful as all the staff who work here.

St. Paul's is a HORRIBLE place. Providence isn't throwing one red cent into it while the new one…read moreis being built and the sheets are thread bare and some are torn. Good luck finding a pillow in an emergency bed! The walls and furniture have holes in them and maintenance can't keep up. Their H-Vac system was last updated in 1971 and can't be upped anyfurther so it's FREEZING in there. Good luck finding anyone to get you a blanket to put around you. Staff, nurses and doctors are overworked and grumpy. Provicence pays their ER docs per turn around so you don't get to see one for very long. I have several health issues, none of them my own fault, and St. P.'s is the closest hospital to me. I cannot always be diverted to Mt. St. Josephs so have to put up with this hell hole of a hospital. I won't talk about the food because that's too cliqued. I'm almost in tears if I have to go there!

This time, I have mixed feeling. Super negative and super positive…read more It started super negative. I have known this hospital has tricky layout and made me confused...and 8 years later, still tricky and more worse. The ceiling is kinda low and I felt like being in a maze. I wanted to have an ultrasound over breast but they kept telling me mammogram first. I didn't understand why but as it's their protocol, I had to follow. So I checked in mammogram test but until the technician got suspicious about I was in the another mammogram test room and I was another "Mari" (there was another same name patient!), I had no escorted by receptionist. The technician for mammogram was super kind and friendly. After we finished testing, she asked me if I had time. Of course! Then she set up ultrasound test right away. That was wow. Because I didn't have family doctor's requisition either. Both test results had nothing suspicious. I was very happy that my long day ended positively.

She took ample time to discuss our mom's care options with us, walking us thru a tumultuous time and righting wrongs that others had done (by providing the very best care until the very end). She provided a lot of reassurance during the stages of end of life care. We would have been a mess emotionally and medically, had it not been for her guidance to our family and mother. She also helped our family harmonize differing points of view we had that were splintering our family, by providing sound advice and evidence of the best steps to take. One of the best physicians and human beings I have ever met. Respectful of all faiths, traditions and cultures and familiar with eastern and western traditions and a deep understanding of the death process and transition to beyond. She is able to engage in very helpful discussions on all levels.
