What luck to be asked to be a plus one at a Yelp event at this amazing one-of-a-kind mansion. The…read moredecor inside is very eclectic, very unique and a whole lot of fun. It's as if Dali, Picasso, bits of mannequin, loads of a taxidermy shop where shaken all up and strewn all over in a very interesting and tasteful way. Each room is unique and very comfortable looking and each have their own special charm. One room has its own open tiled shower, balcony and four post bed. Another room has a suspended bed floating and hanging from the ceiling. And still another has a sitting area and resident stuffed black panther. A stay here would certainly bring fun into anyone's life as you can't help but smile as soon as you walk in the front door.

Last week, I didn't want to ask anymore and I wanted to sleep on a bed for a change. Enter The Darling Mansion. It's a beautiful old mansion converted into a very cool B&B. Think Wes Anderson themed rooms and a mix of contemporary and old decor with Helmut Newton photography everywhere. Swoon. I loved being located on a residential street (Dovercourt!) near Queen West & Dundas West. Made me feel like I lived in Toronto all over again. Tanya, the "innkeeper"/brains behind the operation is a really cool person who made us feel right at home. In the morning she offered us delicious coffee and homemade breakfast. We stayed in the Wes Anderson room and for $99 it was a great deal. There's a shared bathroom for that room which was super clean & came with great shampoo, conditioner and loads of towels. I'll definitely be staying there again.

Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed in our overall experience. Each guest is given a sheet of paper where you can select 3 teas. The server didn't explain this was per person so we were confused thinking it was 3 per table. The biggest disappointment for us is that we were given tea bags, which in my opinion is not appropriate for an experience of afternoon tea and really cheapened the experience. As an avid tea drinker, I personally was expecting at least loose tea. We were given one hot tea pot for the table and had to constantly ask for refills until towards the end when the server gave us a second pot. It was a bit dangerous for us trying to pass one kettle around the table of four people as well. They also don't give you any iced water to drink on the side which was disappointing. In addition, no one came to clean out or change out your tea cup when you were moving on to drink the next tea. So I ended having a taste of earl grey in the chamomile tea. For the 3rd tea, I ended up dumping some of it out on my plate and wiping with my napkin. Eek! We did however, enjoy the food. They present you with a 3 tiered tray with a variety of finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries and jam/butter. We all thought the finger sandwiches, scones and desserts were delicious. The sandwich were tasty, but a bit tiny and definitely needed more filling. Overall, I may come back for the food but I was disappointed in the use of tea bags and the inattentive service.
