I saw some negative reviews and felt I should add my positive one. My daughter and I found it to be very comfortable and inviting. Thank you for the lovely stay-this was March 2015.

I started this review in 2016 a few days after my stay, then decided not to bother. Years later,…read moreI've decided to share some lingering thoughts particularly because -- when I visited Toronto again more recently -- I made a point of not returning. First, the breakfast is a cold service with baked items purchased from Costco, so it doesn't provide a fresh, warm welcoming B&B feel as I've experienced in so many other places across Canada and around the world. A factor contributing to my stay in the first place was a review mentioning that the breakfast was vegan accommodating, but I was honestly better off going to a grocery store and procuring my own choices, so it definitely not worth the extra cost in that respect. But more importantly, the hosts weren't particularly friendly or helpful. Most frustrating is that they don't offer luggage storage, so I was stuck dragging my suitcase to appointments around the city after checkout at 11 until my departing flight at 8 pm. Prior to arriving in Toronto, I had spent two weeks in Barcelona, Zurich and Barcelona so I had some laundry I wanted to wash, but they offered no suggestions as to where I could do that. If they don't want to offer their facilities for a fee that's fine (although unusual for a B&B in my experience), but they could have at least compiled some quick research about local options to provide informed recommendation as a courtesy because that's what "hosts" do. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, and the location is convent, but that's all it had going for it. I selected the B&B hoping for a comfy, local feel while also contributing more directly to the local economy, but I should have just stayed at a hotel. I don't get the sense the owners of this place actually enjoy the line of work they're selected for themselves ‍ Update: I just read more recent reviews... What on earth?! Seems like my review isn't even relevant anymore! Yikes...

It's as if Dali, Picasso, bits of mannequin, loads of a taxidermy shop where shaken all up and strewn all over in a very interesting and tasteful way. Each room is unique and very comfortable looking and each have their own special charm. One room has its own open tiled shower, balcony and four post bed. Another room has a suspended bed floating and hanging from the ceiling. And still another has a sitting area and resident stuffed black panther. A stay here would certainly bring fun into anyone's life as you can't help but smile as soon as you walk in the front door.

Last week, I didn't want to ask anymore and I wanted to sleep on a bed for a change. Enter The Darling Mansion. It's a beautiful old mansion converted into a very cool B&B. Think Wes Anderson themed rooms and a mix of contemporary and old decor with Helmut Newton photography everywhere. Swoon. I loved being located on a residential street (Dovercourt!) near Queen West & Dundas West. Made me feel like I lived in Toronto all over again. Tanya, the "innkeeper"/brains behind the operation is a really cool person who made us feel right at home. In the morning she offered us delicious coffee and homemade breakfast. We stayed in the Wes Anderson room and for $99 it was a great deal. There's a shared bathroom for that room which was super clean & came with great shampoo, conditioner and loads of towels. I'll definitely be staying there again.

In retrospect, staying here was kind of a bad idea. I was relocating from Ireland and looking…read moreahead to my move in to a rental condo which contained a bed, some cutlery and some patio chairs. The Annex Garden B&B is about the starkest contrast imaginable. I booked through http://www.torontobandb.com which was really easy. They sent on full instructions with directions etc. Roberta, the owner of the B&B, emailed herself a couple of weeks later with extra instructions and just to say hello! I arrived in the pouring rain in the middle of the G20 riots. Roberta wasn't there when I first landed but I already had the code for the door and let myself in. I had ENORMOUS bags so let them downstairs while I did some exploring in town. When I met Roberta later, she could not have been more welcoming. We brought one of my huge bags upstairs together but decided to leave the other one downstairs. I was grateful for that-her home is beautiful and I hated thinking that I was taking over her living room. My bedroom was lovely. 2 twin beds, bright bathroom and huge closet with nice touches like a robe, alarm clock, ironing board and iron. The TV didn't have great reception but I didn't really watch much anyway-too busy looking for furniture to put in the condo. I made full use of the mini fridge and the free wifi though! Breakfast was different every morning but always delicious. I had wholemeal waffles, omelettes, freshly baked bread, fruit.... I don't think I've eaten such a delicious variety of food since then. Coffee was excellent and plentiful. Roberta is great to chat to and managed to get everybody chatting at the breakfast table. She will give recommendations on things to do and places to eat and can talk on pretty much any subject! She has a really cute little pug dog too who makes you feel like part of the family! It was a lovely few days and I felt completely at home. I wished I could stay longer. The house is gorgeous and kept beautifully. I believe she will be moving down the street in the future but I have no doubt that it will be equally gorgeous. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone visiting the city. Or if you just want to sleep in a really comfy bed and have a nice breakfast....

We tried to ignore it and just go about our holiday. The day we checked out I accidentally left a side door open and when I came back inside to return the key the owner was in full disparagement mode with her staff about how and who we must be "how strange and bizarre they were.. who just leaves a door open!?" And continued to insult me and my friend as I stood there quietly and listened. I then walked in and placed the key on a table and I let her know that leaving her door open was a complete and total accident and that she was very unkind to speak about people in such a negative way while they were not in the room to defend themselves. I will never return to that hotel, and her behavior was so oddly mean and unnecessary. We obviously are not the kind of people she wants in her hotel. Do not go there if you are a young professional woman looking for a relaxing Toronto weekend. We did and were sadly disappointed.
