This is a family style, scratch made food diner in Arcadia. We stopped in after visiting a nearby exotic animal sanctuary. We were promptly greeted, seated and waited upon. The menu is a breakfast lunch-type offering. One of us had the two-piece dark meat fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, a biscuit and collard greens (not shown, as we accidentally got cottage cheese at first). The other ordered the pork chop, eggs, hash browns and toast plate. We both really enjoyed the crispy coating on the pork chop and chicken. The collard greens were tasty, but could have used a little more liquid and seasoning. We went here on a Saturday, place is tucked away in there corner of an old strip mall. Mall almost looks abandoned on the weekends. We walked in, were greeted warmly, seated right away. Place was busy with families. I went with the fried chicken and my wife had a burger. Took about 20 minutes for the chicken, which I expected. The Chicken was very good and my wife liked her burger. It's positioned in a corner of an old shopping center without great signage. I've wanted to come here for 3 years to get their famous chicken when I came to Arcadia. The parking lot and building is neglected and ran down. We went in anyway. These dives are sometimes great. There was a sign that said wait to be seated when we entered. No one was there to sit us. Finally someone came from the back and said sit where ever you want. So we did. I ordered the chicken and husband the meatloaf. We had to wait 30 minutes for our food because I ordered chicken. Then our food just sat in the window until the management went and got the waitress to bring it to us. Owner I assume watched me when I was telling my husband that our food was just sitting there. Chicken was hot though. Mashed potatoes with gravy were good. The chicken was disappointing. Not much flavor at all. Husband's meatloaf looked like dog food. Looked like they took a spoon and got the scraps off the bottom of a pan and threw it on the plate. Very unattractive. Husband brought it home for our dog. He said he couldn't eat it. We were told it had a tomato sauce but it was just pieces of ground beef piled up. We will not return. I was so disappointed. read more

Not nearly as good as I'd hoped. I asked the waitress what she thought was the best and she suggested the Swai fish. I'd never heard of it but it was delicious. I was very glad that I ordered it but the sides were mediocre and the biscuit was chewy. If I could have had a double order of the entree and skipped the sides I would have enjoyed my meal much more. But the thing that I'll remember most about this visit was one of the customers. A cute 20 something girl was complaining about her roommates and her boyfriend and her family and she kept talking..... and talking.....and talking and in my head I'm begging this girl to please shut up and stop befouling my meal. But immaturity and stupidity flowed out of this girl like a fountain and after a minute I stopped begging and I started to smile. Because I realized that the girl that I was going home to, was light years from this gal. Wisdom and kindness and tenderness are what come out of my wife's mouth and I was reminded how fantastically blessed a man I am. So to that girl, I want to say "Thank you". Food tasted VERY fresh. We had a great omelette and fried chicken on a biscuit smothered with sausage gravy. A biscuit lovers biscuit with the best gravy I've ever tasted. Not exactly diet food. Don't judge this book by its cover. It's in a run down strip mall, but you can spot it by all the vehicles parked in front of it. Probably THEE BEST FRIED CHICKEN I, OR MY WIFE, HAVE EVER, EVER, EVER had. Great buffalo chix salad, great deep-fried chix livers, and home-made sweet tea. If you don't stop at this place traveling from the Orlando area to SW Florida, you have only yourself to blame. Found this local place thanks to Yelp! Was in a solo girl camping trip and wanted to try something different. Walking into this place, there's not much to it; couple tables and chairs, nothing fancy. The staff is super friendly, helpful in making my choice in what I should have. Went with the chicken and biscuit. Open faced biscuit with fried shrike and sausage gravy. It was truly a meal from heaven. I didn't leave not one bit. Will be traveling back up this coming weekend, so my boys could try it. A must go-to if you're in that area read more

When hubby first took me to a "great" he'd found I was reluctant due to the conditions of the appearance of the strip mall. However, he was so right. We've chosen to eat here often while visiting our son. He learned about it from us and now even picks up to-go orders. My favorite is their breakfast offerings, served all day. Although, they make very good fried okra so I often have to get a meal that uncles it. Hubby likes the chicken. Son recently tried their chili and loved it. The flavor was good to me but I prefer a bit more heat. Their desserts are sooo good, especially the coconut cream pie! I always only drink water and there's isn't very hood but I use 3 packets of lemon and do fine. Wait staff is friendly and they have great camaraderie even with the cooks. My husband picked up chicken for takeout. They told him he had to get a bucket for takeout. When he got back home he had $27 dollars of the most overcooked dried out chicken I have ever gotten anywhere. And barely enough sides for 2 people. We decided to eat here based on a Yelp review. We were driving from Orlando to SW Florida. We first followed the GPS and ended up at a location out of town that was closed up completely. Apparently there had been2 locations at one point. We returned to the location that was just south of Arcadia in a little strip mall on highway 17. The chicken was very good. The sides were quite southern. The price was even better than reasonable.The mashed potatoes and gravy were disAppointing...instant potatoes, canned gravy.
