You begin to recognize what authentic and distinctive flavors are actually supposed to taste like. And unfortunately, you also become very aware when something simply doesn't quite hit the mark. Pho Thai is quite popular in Sioux Falls and now has several locations around the city, so naturally my husband and I wanted to give it a try. Sioux Falls is still developing its international food scene compared to places like Phoenix, where we previously lived, so we are always hopeful when we hear good things about a local spot. The experience overall was unfortunately pretty underwhelming. The food wasn't terrible, but most of it felt very middle-of-the-road and lacked the distinctive flavor profiles that make Thai and Vietnamese cuisine so memorable. We tried a variety of dishes along with appetizers like the pot stickers, which were perfectly edible, but fairly generic overall. Some of the food throughout the meal seemed either slightly underdone or overdone, which made the kitchen execution feel inconsistent. The noodles themselves were fine, but again, nothing really stood out. That's honestly the recurring issue we had with most of the meal: nothing was actively offensive, but almost nothing made us excited either. It felt less like carefully crafted regional cuisine and more like food designed to play things very safely. I think if you have limited exposure to Thai or Vietnamese food, especially in smaller Midwestern cities, you may enjoy this place much more than we did. For Sioux Falls, it is probably considered one of the better available options. But for us, after experiencing truly wonderful versions of these cuisines in larger cities and abroad, this just didn't compare. Still searching for that authentic spark over here. Nonetheless, the restaurant was clean, busy, and satisfactory enough for a casual meal. Just not somewhere we'd personally rank very highly.

Way too many noodles for the amount of chicken. The noodles were cooked well, but there wasn't much there except the noodles... Not a lot of cabbage, celery, onion, carrot. All the things you normally get with Lo Mein. Also the sauce was a little bland. The Generals Chicken was good. Portion size was small, especially when comparing it to the Lo Mein. Flavor was good, maybe a little more Garlic Chili because it lacked spice. The spring roll was crispy on the outside and the filling was good, perhaps a little over cooked. Finally, the Hot and Sour soup... The taste was also good, but it lacked heat as well. And the salt level was through the roof. 4 hours after eating I was still craving water, and I only ate half of it. Overall it was a good value. I took off a star because of the saltiness of the soup and that they never gave a receipt.

This is the middle of the country and their sushi tastes as good as I've found in major metro Areas. No idea the hibachi quality not my thing. Thanks! We should have left but is for two birthdays and trying to find another restaurant on Saturday at 6pm.. not a chance. I'm not even going to go into more about how god dam cold we froze our butts off. If you eat here, expect great food and efficient friendly service. Do not accept being seated in the over flow room under any circumstances. Trust me when I say, leave and go somewhere else. Go back when you're assured your reservation is in the main dining area.

I even got up to build a second bowl. Definitely come hungry and read instructions on how to properly build your bowl, you'll be impressed at how good it turns out. I will say, if you have allergies to anything in the stations, know that the cooks go around with their spatulas to cook everyone's food. So if someone else got shellfish and you're allergic to it, your food will get traces of it. The cooking area is clean but not ideal for people with severe food allergies. The Crab Jalapeno was a bit of a let down. It was OK, but I think it was only one jalapeno that they cut on a bias, filled with some mock crab meat, breaded and fried. They served it on a bed of thinly sliced cabbage. For me, anything including garnishes on a plate should be edible, and the cabbage alone wasn't. It needed a lime/fish sauce something. This dish was lacking for me and why I gave four stars, not 5. I know, I should get a signature dish if I review a restaurant, but I think more can be learned by smaller items on the menu, if they do them well they do everything well.

I said can I add nuoc beo on the side? She said we don't have that, then I say extra onions and cilantro.. I can't even say anything else before she tries to run away again.. then I said I would like to add spring rolls, but veggie, and I'm thinking that's tofu.. either way she runs away.. I can't even order a drink. I also really wanted to add a side of sliced onions and see if they have any Chinese donuts.. but there's no asking because she is running. Then as she comes back out to bring something to someone else, I basically have to raise my voice to ask for a drink. She brings my Dr. Pepper and spring rolls and it's literally just veggies inside.
