My dad is an Alzheimer's patient. I drove an hour to pick up my dad to take him to his appointment. The directions on maps sent us to the wrong building. By the time I got him back into the car and went to the correct building we were exactly 12 minutes late. When I checked in I was told that we were 12 minutes late and that we would not be seen. Even though I tried to explain that maps had sent us to the wrong building (a problem they confirmed they were aware of), I tried to explain that I had taken off of work and driven from Fort Lauderdale for the appointment. They simply did not care. Had we made it on time we probably would have not been seen prior to 15 minutes. To add insult to injury our previous appointment had been cancelled due to the Dr. having a family emergency. While we completely understood that she had an emergency they did not understand that we were 12 minutes late on account of being lost. Disgraceful! read more

wouldn't answer an important question after my mom got out of the hospital until she was seen which was going to be over a month away and she had just seen her a month prior. and you're always seeing a practioner or assistant bc she's never ther. read more

My Father has dementia & was a patient of Dr Casanova. I have Power of Attorney, as well as being his healthcare proxy. After a fall, my 83 yr old father developed a brain bleed. How serious? Your guess is as good as mine, because 3 months later, I still have not been given any of his test results I have repeatedly requested from Casanova's office I have called & submitted the official request for medical records & been completely ignored, until I left a message letting them know I'd be writing a review. ONLY then did I get a call back letting me know that I don't have the authority to get my dad's medical records. WRONG! I do, they just had to tell me what they needed. Just like the folks at the hospital that knew they had to call me for consent to put my father under general anesthesia to perform surgery. After a Friday afternoon appointment with Dr Casanova ended with Casanova advising my father's helper to rush him straight to the hospital He was dumped there for the weekend & I was told that there would be some procedure performed on Monday Hospital staff called to ask-Would I be around to give consent? NO ONE would/could tell me anything more than that. General Anesthesia can accelerate the mental decline of Dementia patients. I learned this when my dad needed Prostate surgery & his Urologist & I decided that an Epidural would be used for his procedure. After dumping him in the hospital all weekend, I refused to give uninformed consent to putting him under general anesthesia for the mystery procedure that was finally presented to me, Monday morning. After all of this, I called Casanova's office, very upset at the lack of communication, & was informed by Linda the office assistant that none of the was the Dr's fault, since Dr Casanova had "left for vacation right after the Friday appointment" This was the weekend that was both Superbowl & Valentine's Day, So you really can't blame the Dr for not bothering to check in about a patient that she dumped in the ER Friday afternoon. Seriously? She was busy having fun! Having an elderly parent with dementia is difficult. My Dad has some terrific people helping him/us. Dr Casanova is not one of them. read more

A man experiences severe back pain, so bad that he cannot get out of his truck or walk and calls…read more911. EMTs pick him up & give fentanyl on the way to JFK Main ER. He arrives at the ER & vitals are taken. According to the medical records, the pain "started at work after heavy lifting". The man never got out of his truck, never made this statement. (Record also states he is a "current every day smoker". The man has never smoked a cigarette in his life.) They send him for a CT scan, which just shows some degenerative changes". The nurse sticks a lidocaine patch on his back. Then no one comes to see him. A nurse walks by & a family member asks has anyone taken his BP recently. Her reply,"Did you ask him?", meaning the patient. What kind of snarky response is that??? The ER was not busy, but the patient, with the fentanyl wearing off, is now extremely uncomfortable. The ER physician, Dr. S comes in to tell the patient he's being discharged. The family member tells the doctor that the patient complained of urgency & painful urination that morning. The doctor tells them to go have his prostate checked. NO LABS WERE DONE. A simple urinalysis would've shown that the patient had a UTI. There was tenderness in the right lower back area. But Dr. S ignores this and sends the man home. T - temperature (normal) I - Infection (painful urination) M - Mental Decline (patient was anxious & "tired" by discharge) E - Extremely Ill (patient felt the worse he's felt in his life with severe pain) TIME - the signs of SEPSIS. In fact, during the Severe Sepsis Screening, male RN SG, documented YES on the heart rate, which was 128 on admission, & 127 on discharge. DO NOT GO TO THE ER at JFK MAIN. Some pee in a cup. Just a simple CBC. These tests were never done & would've shown that this man had sepsis. Instead, he was discharged. By the head of the ER. After only an hour being home, the man was taken by his family to their local hospital where immediately a sepsis alert was called. An E coli infection from the urinary system... He was admitted & started immediately on IV antibiotics. Remained in the hospital, where they also discovered a mass on the patient's bladder. Cancer. A complaint against Dr. S was filed with the FL DOH. But HCA has a lot of money & great lawyers. Nothing is on record about the complete oversight by Dr. S. He gets to practice emergency medicine forever. This hospital was once known to be the best cardiac hospital in PBC. Since HCA took over, it is not #1 anymore. Even their top cardiothoracic surgeon got the heck out of there. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.

On Mother's Day, I walked in to find him gasping for air. The nurse told me "he's fine, he's been like that for two hours." He was not fine -- he was in respiratory distress and ultimately suffered an anoxic brain injury that led to his death. My sister, an ER nurse 1,800 miles away, had to direct the code team through FaceTime because they didn't know what to do. The hospital later altered records 17 times after the incident. There was no accountability because Florida's "Free Kill Law" prevents families from suing if their parent is unmarried or has no dependents. Please think twice before trusting this facility with your loved one -- what happened to my father should never happen to anyone.

I had issues with my breathing and I was too weak to work with therapy. I came to Select to get better. While I was here I had a respiratory crisis and needing a tracheostomy and a ventilator. I had to be seen by doctors everyday and taken care of in the ICU for a couple of weeks. Little by little I began to improve and breath more on my own. I started working with physical, occupational and speech therapy. It took a couple of months and this place helped me get back to my life. I am able to walk, talk and eat on my own again. I get to home now and I am thankful for that. There are so many people I want to thank for making a difference in my stay. Almost all the nurses were fantastic. Kelly & Katie made me feel like I was a family member and Demi, Magdal and Daphnee were always on point. The respiratory therapists helped me to get back to breathing.... Terrill and Phillippe were some of my favorite RTs. Eddie In Physical therapy helped me to get up walking again. It became a routine to get coffee myself with PT once I was walking... fyi, Sarah Makes the Best coffee. There are so many other people who made an impact on my stay that I am thankful for. Select is the place to go if you value your life.

There are many people working in the office. The appointments I've had in the past, I was unfortunately seen by a PA. Dr sheki is young and so are most of her assistants. With age comes experience. No one answers a phone. When I call to make an appointment they then text me to chat with them. It's a very impersonal way of doing business. I've questioned them many times "does anyone here ever pick up a phone?". When I showed up for an appointment, they told me that my appointment had been canceled. They told me they called me, checked my phone and no call was received by them. This is just an awful organization and practice. Do yourself a favor, go someplace else!

Viroja (License #ME92681) Darren Lastofsky, chiropractor John Catena, chiropractor Jennifer Smith, nurse practitioner This clinic took advantage of my elderly uncle who has Alzheimer's. The clinic rushed him and coerced him into signing a long-term contract for questionable services. When confronted about it, the clinic refused to cancel the contract. My uncle now has a lawyer working on his behalf, and complaints are being filed with medical and consumer-protection authorities. The clinic has hired a collection agency to go after my uncle. What kind of morals do the people at this clinic have? Shame on them. How could any honorable person harass an elderly, disabled person in order to simply drain the person of money? I can only hope that this ends up in court, and that the clinic ends up being punished appropriately.

When I finally got my mom to the correct office that day a little while later we were then told he refused to treat my mother because she lived in assisted-living. So I spent the whole day running around with an 87-year-old woman from office to office only for them to tell us they refuse to treat her . I don't know how this is possibly legal all because of where she lives. Sounds like discrimination to me

He had ordered MRIs which showed I had advanced stenosis resulting in daily pain and a poor quality of life. I had been suffering for many years following a motor vehicle accident and arthritic changes and I'd been receiving numerous epidurals and meds elsewhere but relief was never permanent and I felt this is no way to live. My visit and meeting Dr Blanco was life changing!! I felt music should have played in the background.. that's how much of a difference that made in my life. He told me about an implantable device that could control my pain and explained that there are many companies making it now. It's an AI- based spinal cord stimulator that blocks the pain signals to the brain. He explained it plus he gave me lots of literature to take home to read. I read it over and over, completely and drank in every word! I was ecstatic! This could be give me my life back! I set up an appointment for the mandatory "trial". The nurse who represents the manufacturer of the device, Terese, who is also the nicest, sweetest person I have come to know, has been there with me all the way! She comes to my appointments, she calls me every day and she's smart, she cares and she's never too busy to answer my questions. What a great partner to have by my side, well, besides my Dr Blanco! Anyway, I did the 5 day trial of the Nevro HFX iQ Implant and I had it removed this morning. It was a complete SUCCESS!!!! The pain I had been feeling for the past 35 years was almost non-existent over the last 5 days! I took a picture of my 2 heros!!! I think they should have halos!!!! They are my ANGELS!! (I was in the picture with them but came out terrible so i cut myself out! They are the superstars anyway!!!!) My next step is to see the neurosurgeon that Dr Blanco recommended who will perform the permanent implant surgery. Of course there will be a review! Let's all keep our fingers crossed! But if you are in need of pain relief from a spinal stimulator, pain injections, epidurals, RF ablations etc all types of pain relief, Dr Blanco is THE DOCTOR!!! As I was a "walk-in" and not dripping blood on the floor, I fully expected a long wait to see a doctor. I was wrong. After I described my symptoms, I was immediately conducted to an examination room. Within a few minutes, I was being taken care of. Everyone there treated me like a human being rather than a set of symptoms, and it was only after I'd had a CT scan and a full blood chemistry was I even asked about my medical insurance. It's so nice to find a medical center that has its priorities in the right order. In particular, I'd like to cite Dr. Patrick Davison and nurse "RB" for being the very model of what is deemed "considerate care."

I checked in at the nurses station and it helped get the process going. The other thing is the patient was hooked up on IV and requested to use the bathroom. No one came. The patient had to wait till am from night before to use the bathroom. Maria (PLT) spoke spanish. Was very efficient and kind to patient. My final appointment was the reason I decided to change doctors. After waiting about 30 minutes, I was called in only to be asked why I was there, as if she had not reviewed my medical record. When I told her it was time for my annual physical, she said she did not have enough time to do it. I reminded her that I had already been waiting for about 30 minutes, but she replied that it had only been 25 minutes and told me to come back the following month. I also asked if she could order my blood work in advance so we could discuss the results at my next visit, but she refused and said she would only order it when I came back for the physical. Throughout my visits, I often felt unheard. She frequently interrupted me before I could finish explaining my concerns and gave me the impression that she was not truly listening. I never felt that my time or my health concerns were a priority. To be clear, my comments are directed solely at the physician. The nursing staff and the front desk team were always kind, courteous, and professional, and I have nothing but positive things to say about them.
