This was our first time to the new Tequila Grill - - it was a different Mexican place a few years ago. The waiter was good - - checked on us make sure we had enough chips, salsa, and water. The place is large, and clean. Two of us had the AC platter - - arroz con pollo. It was delicious. It was the perfect size for lunch with vegetables, chicken, and rice. Cheese sauce was poured over it. This review was for the Bloomfield Iowa location. Hubby had a cheesy steak taco platter, and friend had taco salad with extra tomatoes. A lot of the food here seemed really Tex mex, the queso was very liquid, the cheese looked too wet like it was watered down and the horchata did not taste like horchata but cinnamon,milk with a lot of sugar it tasted like candy. It wasn't horrible but I don't think I'd go here again read more

Stopped on a Thursday around 6pm. Very busy, but I was seated immediately and was enjoying a margarita and chips with salsa before I had my coat off. The staff was very fast and very friendly. I ordered the Burrito Ranchero. The pork was tender and well seasoned, and the burrito was stuffed with all my favorites and covered in queso and verde. I left knowing that I will be back! read more

Definitely worth the drive from Burlington! We have 5 Mexican restaurants down there but this one is worth the trip! The chips came out real hot and the salsa was great too. I always get the veggie fajitas when I go out so this is what stood out to me: The rice and beans were very wet but very flavorful, the tortillas were really good but I don't think they were made from scratch. I loved that they put guacamole and cilantro in the mix. None of the places in Burlington do that. The guac was really limey and delicious too. We didn't have to wait long at all for the food. The place is very spacious and there was a lot of background noise until they kicked the music on but then it was good. Be sure to check it out. read more

I useto live in Ottumwa and this was an amazing place to eat. We ordered the "super nacho's" and added everything we could to it. It had NO flavor and hardly any chorizo or any other meat for that matter. We added hot sauce and salsa and it was still blah. I had a side of refried beans and they were bland and straight out of a can. I would highly recommend ANYWHERE else if your wanting to eat dinner, if your coming here for a decent margarita, they are pretty good. Very disappointed and will not be a return customer. read more

I always start my expectations at the chips and salsa: nothing interesting here. The chips were very good but the salsa was bland. They offered 3 bottles of El Yucateco hot sauce in the condiment caddy, and after a lot of experimenting I got the salsa to an acceptable heat and flavor level. I ordered the Enchilada Suizas, but did not get them. Instead I was served 3 enchiladas covered in a red sauce with lettuce strips and sour cream on top, but no rice or beans! I told the server the order was wrong but he said it was correct. I Googled Enchilada Suizas and showed him the photo but said it was wrong and their red enchiladas were right. BIG FAIL!! He said the picture was Enchilada Verde and I should have ordered that. I again protested Verde and Suiza were different, but I gave up as real Mexicans must not be operating the restaurant. The chicken filling was dry and tough. The red sauce was so strong I could not taste any flavor in the filling, if it had any. After reviewing the menu (many, many choices) we had chosen the same entree - Texan Fajitas. So - we ordered 2 lime margaritas ($4.50) and the Texan Fajita Double ($23). The wait staff were friendly and stopped by our table with perfect timing (not too often and not too infrequent). Mom ordered the frozen margarita and I ordered on the rocks. We were not disappointed. We tried the queso, chimichanga, fajitas, tamale, chile relleno, burrito, taco, enchilada, salsa ( regular and extra spicy) guacamole , rice and beans. I am from Birmingham, AL and was visiting family in Iowa for the week. They took us to Tequila Grill for dinner last night and I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the food. We have eaten at many different Mexican food restaurants in our city and other cities on vacation, but I would say that this is one of the best I have had. The cheese dip was the perfect consistency and the salsa was great too. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was incredible. It was a different restaurant then but I do love how they decorated the place. Quick friendly service. The food is always fresh and fast.
