We really love Tepache service and food/drinks. There's usually a wait on weekends and we love to wait at the huge bar with a delicious tepache (pineapple) or peppino (cucumber) margarita. We like the shrimp ceviche tower which has sliced shrimp, tomatoes, peppers, onions and tends to be sort of peppery on the palate. It comes with a crispy round tortilla that you can break into smaller pieces and load with your fork for a yummy bite! My entree was the shrimp enchiladas with red pepper sauce and I subbed out pinto beans for the cilantro rice and the other side that normally comes with it. The enchiladas were a little sweet with the red pepper sauce and sort of skimpy on shrimp. The beans were fantastic. This is a louder dining experience but not overly loud. Decided to visit this spot with my friend for dinner. It's a beautiful spot which nice vibes. They have specials and happy hour and the special of the night for us was the Tepache margarita which had a ginger kick to it along with a pineapple garnish. It was really good. I got the fajitas chipotle which was really good and plenty of food for the price. Several of my friends have been raving about this place for years and I have been wanting to stop by and check them out. Problem is, I live pretty far from both of their locations, with the Cranberry/Mars location my North Hills friends frequent being the further of the two for me. Tonight though, those friends decided we would hold our monthly book exchange there, which was a great excuse to make the drive. Due to some significant staffing issues out of their control recently, Tepache has had to adjust their hours for now, opening only for dinner from 3 to 9, and borrowing staff from their other location in Fox Chapel. Well, they need them, because we were here on a Thursday evening and the parking lot was packed, with a short line of people at the host stand waiting to be seated. They are turning out to support during a difficult time for the business, but they are also turning out because this spot is beloved, and now I understand why. First off, I was immediately impressed because while my friends were ordering margaritas, I am a non-drinker these days and there was no wondering what I was going to ask them to come up with for me. It was already there, a list of four or five non-alcoholic drinks alongside the cocktails. My mocktail was gorgeous! Delicious and thoughtfully crafted, every bit as much as a cocktail. We were off on a great foot here. Next on my list is how many vegetarian options a place has. They have so many I was having an impossible time choosing. Did I want enchiladas with spinach and mushrooms, a fajita quesadilla, buffalo cauliflower tacos? Everything sounded terrific. I settled on the fajita quesadilla which came with a thoughtful vegetarian rice, different than the Mexican rice, as well as a little side dish of traditional fajita fixings which I did not expect. The vegetables were abundant and so perfectly grilled and seasoned. This was an absolutely wonderful meal. My bill arrived and for my beautiful drink and my very filling meal it was a total of $23. I thought it was a typo. I should also mention that our server was terrific about guiding us with recommendations, quick to refill drinks and follow up on whether there was anything we needed throughout the meal, and quick to handle the checks. I really enjoyed eating at Tepache Mexican kitchen! We started with the tableside chorizo and hot cheese concoction and boy was in a great way to start the meal! We also had some really tasty cocktails before digging in to the main event! Everyone gonna separate entrée and oohed and ahhed and raved, and quite frankly, it got very quiet because everybody was just totally content with their meals! We also got super aggressive and ordered individual desserts even though we were all pretty full but could not resist! I cannot say enough great things about Tepache! One of my favorite mexican restaurants around Pittsburgh. They have a variety of margaritas including flavors that are specific to their cocktail list. They keep a rotating seasonal menu that is worth boasting. You truly can't go wrong with a dish here. If we lived closer we would most definitely be regulars. This place was AMAZING. I haven't had good Mexican food from the north hills until I tried this place. The restaurant was really cute and I loved that they opened the doors so that the sun and breeze rolled through the restaurant. I ordered a Strawberry Mango Margherita and it was so pretty and delicious as well! The server was very nice and friendly and served us quickly. I ordered the Birria Tacos and ABSOLUTELY LOVED them! I loved how they weren't as messy as traditional Birria Tacos because they used a layer of cheese once the bottom so I didn't have to worry about leakage. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I didn't even care there was cilantro on them. I'm not a big fan of cilantro but the Tacos were just that good. The rice was also very good. The caramelized pineapple old-fashioned was the star of the show. Too bad it was $17. The chips were very tasty. The Elotes to Share were horribly disappointing. The corn couldn't have been more than an 1/8 inch thick on the cob. I'm not sure where you can even get corn like that. The service was great. Elizabeth was wonderful. I met a friend here for dinner and sat on the outside patio. It was a nicely decorated and they have a pretty cool activity area. I made it during happy hour and the lime margaritas were discounted. I also got a desert pear marg that was delicious. The service was great, our waitress was attentive and everything came out quickly. Tepache in Cranberry is one of the best Mexican places in the Pittsburgh area- prices are a little steep but that's what you get for the location so I support it lol. The birria tacos were crispy, flavorful, and hit the spot-- comparable to Southern California but a cleaner environment lol. Service was quick and friendly, and the place has a nice aesthetic--modern but still cozy. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

First, the hospitality that greets you and is sustained throughout your meal is really notable (we arrived on a Monday around 4:45-5pm). Everyone was so friendly, not just our waiter (although he was super attentive and so nice - always smiling)! Dining with happy employees can really accentuate your experience in my opinion, and that definitely stood out here. The restaurant itself is clean and well-appointed; with unique Mexican flair adorning the ceiling and walls, which helps provide an authentic experience. As for the food, I will preface my remarks by stating I'm pretty picky about Mexican food - I don't eat it often so when I do, I prefer to go somewhere that puts an emphasis on freshness and authentic flavor. I usually order fairly simple dishes so it shouldn't be hard to deliver on those expectations. With that said; overall, I'd say this place delivered on both but not in standout fashion. My wife and I shared an order of Taquitos, which had a nice flavor when combined with the guacamole - without the guacamole, it would've been a bit bland. It was also a perfect portion size to share. My entree was the Asada. The tortilla shell is homemade, which is a huge plus in my book. I'm not a fan of commercial tortillas/taco shells. The steak had a nice flavor but was missing something - a bit more kick/zest would have been nice. Also, if it were served with guacamole, that would have been a nice flavor enhancer. It comes with two sauces but I didn't like either one. One was very lime-forward and the other was very pepper-forward. I substituted my rice and beans for Papa Fritas, which were ok. Definitely of the frozen variety but they were cooked well, with a nice crispy texture. They went well with the Asada tacos. Lastly, we shared an order of churros with vanilla ice cream. That was a tasty treat, which was again a perfect portion size to share. Again, overall, this is a quality Mexican restaurant that will likely leave you satisfied, but I wasn't 'wowed' by the food (this time around), but I'll be back to try another dish. We love the Tepache in Fox Chapel and were excited to try the location in Cranberry. So happy to report that it is just as delicious and fun as their sister location. The ambience was colorful and loud, and the service was great. Our server Fernando was so kind and lovely. He won my heart by bringing refills without us having to even ask for them, which is a big check in the plus column for me. He was also very sweet to my daughter, whose 1st birthday was the reason for our celebration dinner. All of the food was top tier as always. Where do I even start?? This place was incredible start to finish. Our server was so sweet and really helpful with suggestions. The restaurant itself is tight but very colorful and bright. We got the margarita flight to split. Presentation was gorgeous and they were huge - definitely to share. We opted for the Queso Fundido Flambé with Chorizo and it was fun to watch and even more fun to eat. We also liked the Elote and that they were small bites. My dinner was the Arroz Con Pollo. It was insanely good. So flavorful, the veggies tasted fresh, and the whole dish was cooked perfectly. We saw about 10 other things on the menu we want to try so we will be back soon! read more

This place really is the best. Since first reviewing this place a few years ago, I've always made it a point to stop here when in Pittsburgh or as a rest stop when traveling along the PA Turnpike (it's less than 5 minutes off the highway). I've been there for weekend brunch, busy Friday nights, to lazy Tuesday midday - it's always gonna be good. I feel like I've experienced enough of it to confirm that 5th star. The food is awesome. I've never had a bad meal. But seriously, just the chips - they're sturdy and thick, like the kind you find in Mexico. I've tried a variety of their tacos, including the Mexico City tacos de canasta on special. On top of some traditional delicious options like cochinita pibil, carnitas, and taco al pastor, they have some delightful vegetarian options like jackfruit and even buffalo cauliflower. Besides the awesome tacos, here are some standout items I've tried: -the Torta Ahogada at brunch - it was perfect as is, and I bet it's great as a hangover cure. -the Squash Blossom Quesadilla - I thought it would just be cheese and squash flowers, but there is something really savory and delicious that take these to another level. -the Sikil P'aak appetizer - move over, guacamole! This pumpkin seed dip is garlicky with citrus and salt that just put it over the top. While I've had some watery drinks here, the last couple of visits they have been much better. There are dozens of margaritas with any variety you could want. Other classic cocktails are available. There are also alcohol-free cocktails and other teetotaler options likes aguas frescas and tepache (fermented and spiced Mexican drink). The inside is beautiful with quotes painted on the walls. The bathroom is always clean. The staff is quick and friendly - in my experience, they all speak Spanish and at least enough English (though I found it easier to chat in Spanish a few times). The staff is always friendly and helpful which is appreciated. The ambience is nice other than it's too loud. It's difficult to carry on a conversation in the dining room. We normally sit at the bar but we're meeting family for this visit. We've noticed in the past year the quality of food has slipped significantly. Everyone at my table had a different meal but what was consistent was burnt meat from carnitas to asada to chorizo. We did have an issue which caused the manager to remove a meal from our bill that was outside of poor quality. She also gave us a free dessert which was unnecessary but also appreciated her being astute. The really disappointing issue is the caramelized pineapple old fashioned....something in the recipe has changed and it is no longer worth the $18. We've noticed the slip in food but continue to want to see this business sucked...however eating out these days is too expensive to consistently get unappetizing food. We will give it some time and maybe try again someday. To be fair the place is very busy so maybe our experiences are not the same for others. read more

This place hits every single time. The food is killer - authentic Mexican with corn tortillas and liberal cilantro and onion usage in the tacos. The guac has a creamy taste that is superb. The wait staff is always friendly and nice, dude even complimented my Spanish the other night, que paso. Nice space with a large bar, great for catching a game as you dine or to spark a conversation with the other patrons. Lastly, who can really complain about unlimited chips/salsa along with a Dos Equis in a 24 oz mug - you'll really feel like el jefe. read more

1st I want to say, "It is a great concept, but bad execution...". There's a new place we wanted to try and obviously love Mexican food. The chili relleno wasn't too bad today the beef taco and chicken burrito had a little more flavor but not bad. @nd timne went and the steak carne asada wasn't too bad cooked a medium-rare thank goodness the cook didn't look at the receipt and see that the guy mistakenly put medium well. Chimichanga wasn't bad but I expected more things inside of it such as peppers and onions maybe some other cheese you. The margarita was pretty good although it was pretty weak for the price. All in all things could have used a little more flavor. 3rd time went there wasn't a whole lot of Mexican flavor to a lot of the items except for the chicken burrito and the beef taco. I actually ordered the Flaming fundido and we didn't get it and really want to try it but they didn't put it on the receipt any out. All in all will probably go back just to try a couple different things but things should have a little more flavor. Went back to get the Flaming queso fundido. It looked pretty cool when they added whatever it was tequila probably and flamed it but it did not have a whole lot of flavor almost like there was not a lot of cheese and more cream. We've had it before where it was literally just a block of cheese heated on a iron skillet it was really good but this didn't have a whole lot of flavor and actually needed more cheese. Best Mexican food available in the Northern Pittsburgh area with dishes on their menu that explain which specific regions they stem from. Meals that you can't order elsewhere. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner with three other people. We were sat quickly even though it was Friday night. The star of the show was the cucumber margarita! It was perfect. The spicy pineapple margarita was good too. We did not like the sangria and there was another drink in the flights none of us were a fan of. Grabbed dinner at Tepache as it was on the way home to Cleveland after skiing at Seven Springs; just off the highway. Found it OK, seated quickly and service was fast. The chips and salsa were good, although the chips almost seemed to be flour rather than corn. I ordered the Chiles Rellenos as they are one of my favorites; at Tepache it came as two peppers with a side of beans and rice. The peppers were a bit mild for my taste and I thought that they were a bit light on the cheese inside. The sauce was nice, but nothing special. The rice and refried beans were fine, but not exceptional. Overall a decent meal, but nothing worth a special trip. Of course your experience may vary. read more

This place was near our hotel, had outdoor tables and Mexican sounded good, so we gave it a try. It was a busy Friday night, but they quoted us 20 minutes so we ordered a drink at the bar while we waited. They had a huge selection of interesting margaritas and I enjoyed the Blood Orange one. Our table was available sooner than expected, which was a nice surprise. They brought out chips and salsa - the chips were really fresh. My wife ordered the chimichanga and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't huge like chimichangas tend to be at most restaurants. I had the Enchiladas Rojas and they were good, too. The service was fast and friendly! Not sure I'll ever be back in this area, but if I am, I would definitely return! read more
