I came from my first CT Open this week, and I can't believe I never knew about annual event. This…read moreis an awesome location for a small, professional tennis tournament. It's a very accommodating venue, and there are lots of avid fans and families. Events seemed to start exactly on time, but there's still a pretty lax atmosphere of people getting food and drink before entering the stadium. (There are food and drink options at the stadium itself.) There definitely was a mad rush for the bathroom at the end of the women's semi-final, but if you just walk a couple yards around, toward a bathroom not as close to the exit, there are plenty of ways to avoid long lines. This is an awesome way to see really great tennis and get the early air feel for the US Open. Besides the main attractions, I really enjoyed staying for the additional matches at the end, which included a lot of laughs.

This tournament is the final of the season leading up to the US. Open so it should be a spectacular…read moreevent since the players could take advantage of New Haven's proximity to Flushing Meadows, NY. However due to poor management and a very weak organization it is not worth your time as a tennis fan. Over the years it has evolved, or dissolved, into WTA only (Most fans would like to see both Men's and Women's events), the advertised top players seldom show up at the event despite commitments and when a player default occurs for illness or injury, nothing is provided in lieu of the scheduled match. Patrons are simply left to stare at an empty court. The end result is a tournament of low rated players reflecting only 1/2 of professional tennis players. Management does not know how to attract and deal with the top players and treats paying patrons as bothersome details. If by any chance this event manages to survive until the 2019 season don't waste your time or money on tickets. Better to watch the Winston-Salem tournament on TV. They know how to do it.

A 5-star private social club in the Platinum Clubs of America, it is situated on Whitney Avenue near the Yale University campus, and two blocks from Ingalls Rink and State Street (home to Modern Apizza, our favorite in the Pizza Capital of the World). The New Haven Lawn Club offers five comfortable, spacious overnight guest rooms and one suite, a main dining room seating 200, and a grand ballroom seating 300 that was being used for a wedding reception the night we stayed there. The fitness center and four squash courts are open 24x7. Outdoors, there is a pool, toddler pool, eight Hart-tru tennis courts, two paddle courts and a playground. Guests enjoy free parking and wifi. We enjoyed pre-game cocktails in the bar off the Grill Room, accommodating 100, where lunch and dinner are served Wednesday-Saturday, and where seasonal Sunday brunch and supper are available. A unique feature of the club is art exhibits hung in the rotunda outside the Grill Room. Rebuilt in 1931 after a fire destroyed the original two years earlier, the clubhouse was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It also is designated A New Haven Landmark by the New Haven Preservation Trust.

Yale has 18 national championships that are recognized by the NCAA. The Bulldogs have the most…read moretitles of any college football program in history. That said, those championships were won a long time ago, before the modern era: 1874, 1876, 1877, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1883, 1884, 1886, 1887, 1888, 1891, 1892, 1894, 1900, 1907, 1909, and 1927. Yale and the other Ivy League football teams moved down to NCAA Division I-AA in 1982 (I-AA's first season was in 1978). Since 2006, I-AA officially became known as the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Again, a step below where the bigger programs reside. For example, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Southern California play in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Before college football grew and evolved into what it is today, Yale was king. An important distinction to make between Ivy League football programs and FBS programs is no school from the Ivy League awards football scholarships. However, student-athletes can receive needs-based scholarships in the Ivy League. In general, Yale and the other Ivy League football schools have significantly smaller programs when compared to those in the FBS, hence their classification as FCS members. Since joining the Ivy League in 1956, Yale has won 16 conference championships. Unlike FBS conferences where there is a conference championship game, the Ivy League has no such thing. Therefore, it is possible to have co-champions in the league. Five of Yale's last six conference titles were shared. Since becoming the current Bulldogs head coach in 2012, Tony Reno has been responsible for two of those championships: 2017 outright (9-1 overall, 6-1 Ivy) and 2019 co-champions with Dartmouth (both schools went 9-1 overall, 6-1 Ivy). I'm not sure the reasons why, but the Ivy League chooses not to participate in the NCAA Division I Football Championship playoffs. Therefore, they do not presently have the opportunity to compete for national championships that are sanctioned and recognized by the NCAA. Yale's home football stadium, the Yale Bowl, is the biggest in the Ivy League with a seating capacity of 61,446. Opened in 1914, it's the third-oldest venue in the conference. It is located west of Yale's main campus, on the other side of Ella T Grasso Blvd, with some of the school's other athletic facilities such as Reese Stadium (soccer) and the tennis complex.

Made a quick uturn and spent the next two hours enjoying this completely paved and awesome park. There is about a 4-5 mile fully paved path, with mountain biking paths adjacent to it, as well as wooded paths. You'll see VERY friendly swans, geese, and ducks (please don't feed them), plenty of squirrels, and the occasional tiny bird running away from you. The are several grass lined bridges that make you feel like you're inside a fairytale, but be careful as they run very low to the water, and are extremely soft in some places. There are steps at various points that lead you back up to the main road at random points, and at the very end you'll happen upon a cool ass skate park. Lover this park so much and will use it as my walking spot going forward!

I went in winter and not only did it look barren as one might expect, but it felt really sketchy!! Cars with missing license plates, homeless people, etc. It didn't feel like a safe area at all, and I later learned it wasn't. On the way home from this park outside The Little Black store I even literally saw the man who had stolen my amazon packages the day before, in plain sight and not apprehended by police. Very dangerous area.
