Booked a tee time for 1 to enjoy a round of solo play. Pro shop said "Sorry mam', we're too busy today, can't let you go off by yourself". However, the 2 guys before me were walk-ons with no tee time. So was the town sponsored golf course really that busy or just $ hungry or not happy having a local woman golfer play to be justified to give away her tee time. I went back to voice my disgust the pro shop offered to "let" me join the 2 walk ons. No thanks, conversation should have been "I see you have a 10:00 tee time, is it ok if I add 2 walk ons with you?" My answer would have been sure, more the merrier. Update: The course canceled my 10:00 tee time at noon. What a waste of gas. read more

Orchards is where I learned how to golf, so this quaint par-three course will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been using this casual, relaxed and friendly course for going on seven years, as long as I've been with my fiance and visiting his family in CT. I remember shanking balls about 30 yards off the first tee, my hands shaking and cheeks blushing, as I worried about my slow play and poor shots. Now I walk up to the box and bomb my four iron right to the edge of the dog leg left, pitch it up onto the fringe of the green with my nine, and, on a good day, make a one putt in for par. Orchards is well maintained and has a great lay out for a public course. It costs a mere $13 for a round of nine holes, which is quite reasonable for the condition of the course. It is walk only, there are never any officials bothering you once you're off and, for your golfing enjoyment, there are water fountains and outhouses here and there. There is no driving range (you aren't really going to need driver, spare a hole or two) but there is a practice green next to the small clubhouse. Speaking of the club house, it doesn't offer much other than toilets, although they do provide limited snacks and beverage for sale and pull carts for rent. Orchards is a great place to get in a casual nine, relax and goof around with friends or family, while working on your game. Sure, they don't offer food or refreshments. Sure, the play can sometimes be a little (err, a lot) slow. Sure, it isn't a fancy course with caddies, food carts, ranges and all the bells and whistles that make an upscale course, well, upscale. But rated as the tiny, towny, public course it is, Orchards easily deserves the "FORE!!!" stars I've given. The course itself is beautiful and fairly well maintained. It's a slight step up from a par three for a competitive price. However I am leaving a two stat review due to the actual experience of playing here. They consistently book tee times right on top of eachother, so the past four times playing here we have finished a hole only to need to wait for up to FOUR groups to tee off at the next hole. The staff does not monitor what's happening on the course, so the speed of play is often very slow. Half of the groups on the course are teenagers that show zero golf etiquette and scream the entire time they are playing, driving their carts in circles on the holes and frustrating everyone around. I have never gone here before but today i bought a gift card for my neighbor for his 60th birthday. so i love this place

For a 9-hole course that has only very short Par 3 and Par 4 holes, I thought this would be a great course to take my two friends who were beginners at golf. I have gone golfing many times and am not a stranger to how a golf course operates. However, when the man at the pro shop sees 3 young girls walk in, he automatically assumed we had no idea what we were doing and was very rude and condescending. He then rushed us off the first hole telling us we have to keep moving because people will be waiting when there wasn't anyone even behind us and we took an extra two minutes to help my friend practice her swing. We apologized and rushed to keep moving and then we were waiting behind two groups at every hole. My friends felt stressed, unwanted at the golf course, and embarrassed to really try golfing for their first time. If anyone else knows a course in the area that is open and welcoming to beginners and happy to help instead of annoyed we were there, please let me know! read more

There are both advantages and disadvantages to golfing at The Orchards. Being an amateur golfer, I use the course to work on my accuracy and my short game. Aside from the course play length being, on average, about two hours there's the obvious down side being the wait times when there are either leagues going on or too many tee times made throughout an hour. Going to the course as a walk on when there are plenty of golfers is actually a disadvantage most of the time. You can sometimes wait for anywhere between 5-45 minutes just to get out onto the course with a group of people you don't know. The only thing that can make the course better would be, perhaps, an expansion or the introduction of a water hazard or two throughout. read more

The Orchards is a really great little course when you want to get in a quick 9 before work. I have played here many times - in fact I had one of my best rounds in a long time a few weeks ago - and I am still not bored with the course. To anyone potential customer, The orchards is a good place to golf if you like to play several holes with some peace and quiet. However, on the remaining holes be prepared for the staff to be on your trail, annoyingly gawking at your every move. Moreover, several of the staff members are rude and unpleasant to do business with. For example, I have never received a smile or thank you from any employee, despite my efforts to act kindly towards them. If you are between 10 and 70 years old, then I would recommend you pay ten more dollars and go to a real golf course with happy employees! Yours truely, An unhappy customer. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this course. Almost every hole is a Par 3 and the entire course is only 9 holes. Point is, if your a golf novice like me and just want to get your Tiger on for an hour or two, this course works just fine. It can get crowded on weekends, so be sure to call far in advance for a tee time. My brother beat me pretty badly this past Sunday, but golf is one of the only sports where you can suck and still love it. For a little more skill, try Grassy Hill Country Club down the street. read more

Used to be an EXCELLENT warm up course--maintained very-well and very scoreable. Sadly, that's not the case anymore, but it can still be saved if they put the work in. Greens are all marked up, divots not replaced in fairways, and bare lies on the fringe actually make this short and easy course difficult to score on. Very frustrating when you hit your ball on the fringe on a tough hole and you have a bare lie! read more

Tried to play a fun, relaxed round with my friends and ended up getting yelled at by the ranger who accused us of messing around hitting balls at people. We were all decently skilled golfers and baffled by the way he was talking to us and the accusation that came out of nowhere. The entire staff is extremely rude. Great little course to learn the game of golf. Being a novice and no where near average, this small course allows me to practice on a actual golf course. While the holes are small they still can present a challenge, namely the 4rth with a tree smack dab in the middle. Agree with April C about the slow play, but with a course full of beginner golfers what do you expect. Everyone on the course is there for one reason..to have fun. The golf course itself was perfectly fine. This review is solely based on experience due to the staff. I have never written a negative review ever before, but felt compelled to do so. My family and I were playing this weekend and there were 6 of us so we split up 3 (women) and 3 (men). The course was extremely busy so we had to wait at every hole. The 3 guys were playing behind the 3 women and caught up to us at every hole due to us having to wait for a while before we could play. Eventually, it was just quicker for all of us to hit through together (trust me- we were playing as fast as we could and it was definitely quicker to play together. We golf all the time together and know how it's done). When we got to the last hole, one of the staff members came out and yelled at us for playing together as if we were 10 years old. We were all staring at each other in disbelief because of how rude he was being. I understand that rules are rules, but he could have talked to us in a professional manner- we are a group of adults, not children. Also, the entire time we were on the course the "ranger" followed us around in his cart literally monitoring us. It was the least relaxing game of golf we have ever played and we will certainly not be returning. The only reason I gave the course 2 stars was for the course itself or else I would have given it 0. read more
