John Campbell is a total sweetheart. When we could not find a laundry, he volunteered his hotel services for us! The room was excellent, with a fake fireplace that just warmed the room with its appearance, two end tables (a major plus for us) an iron bed and two chairs next to a bar table. The bathroom was superb with radiant heating in the floor. Dinner was downstairs in the hotel, a quiet dining room for clients only, a tad uncomfy in that there was only two couples and we could hear each other's conversations, opposed to a bustling, noisy restaurant, but the food was excellent and service was impeccable.

We played croquette on the lawn and danced in the fountain. The wedding took place in the green house, as to avoid the sprinkling outside. They had two crystal champagne flutes made with our names and wedding date for us to keep and handed them to us as we walked out of the ceremony, what a lovely gesture and a treasure we will keep forever. Had spa services done the morning of and the best meal of my life on my wedding day. The Estate has water on the Tweed that is World Class for Salmon in season as well as other shooting standard in their respective seasons. The stone work and interior architecture and art are everything you could want as was the wedding.

So it is just over the border into England and in a tiny wee village and looks lovely as you approach. The Molton brown gift was amazing - a proper box of normal sized goodies. The bar was nice and cosy and the wine prices were really great for a hotel with the price of bottles ranging from £13 to £20 so we settled down with a bottle of Chenin blanc and let the afternoon pass! We got ready for dinner and went downstairs to the bar - which was heaving surprisingly! So the lovely waitress took us through to the library and took our order while we sat in front of a toasty real fire. The pink mojito was I am afraid to say really disappointing - there was no crushed ice in it as is usual but a few sad melted cubes who were not doing their job. However dinner time was here and the menu looked really great. We were told by the waiter that it was only lamb which carried a supplement and all other dishes were included in our deal - fantastic value so we couldn't resist the starter of scallops, black pudding and pea purée. It was awesome! Three huge juicy perfectly cooked scallops with spicy soft black pudding and fresh crushed peas. What's not to like?! For mains we went for steak, I had the ribeye cooked to medium perfection with crisp onion rings, chips and peppercorn sauce. Boyfriend had the amazing fillet beef which was delish although slightly over done for his liking with truffle mash. They were both great. We were stuffed but couldn't resist pudding and put away a fabulous creamy baileys and Malteser cheesecake that was exactly what was needed to finish off a pretty perfect dinner. We had a comfortable nights stay and a great brekkie the next morning - full English cooked to your order. Only thing was the bacon was too crispy for my liking - but that's just my preference so that's ok. It is easy and convenient and clearly a meeting place for locals to share a drink and the news. It is full of old world Borderlands charm; there is nothing plastic or contrived about it. I had drinks several times in the Border Hotel and a very fine dinner. At our table we had most everything and the Chick Pea Curry, the Lamb Shoulder and the Haggis Bonbonss were memorably well received. I enjoyed the cheese board I chose to finish my meal. Usual bar meals - fish and chips, steak pie, roast dinners, salmon etc, all freshly cooked and served by friendly and helpful bar staff. They have a good selection of malts.

On arrival we were given tea or coffee while we filled in our registration and a bucket and brush to clean our hiking boots (which remain strictly in the foyer, not the hotel.) Acerbic wit with a smile was the standard and it suited us to the ground. Sean's well practiced spiels are a comedy routine in themselves so pay attention and don't miss a word. He was very helpful on tide and bus and taxi information. Our room was nicely proportioned and the bathroom spacious. I visited in another room upstairs which was equally nice. Furniture is simple, stout, workable and unpretentious. All rooms have only showers. Our towels were rough but this is probably local hard water, They were new and thick and clean. Breakfast was excellent and if you are not awake on reaching the breakfast room, I assure you that you soon will be. There is lovely art around and some of it is for sale by Sean's son. Tea service in the rooms was generously stocked with a wee biscuit or two. Check the website to see other options like renting the entire place or having a wheelchair accessible room. Fabulous choice for staying on Lindisfarne. I would most certainly return here.
