Here's what went down.
Last Thrusday, 11/12/2020, at around 10:30am I accidentally hit a rock on a mountain road near Telluride, CO and end up with a flat tire on my front passenger side. I pull myself to the side of the road which was in a somewhat remote location about 3 miles southeast of town.
So, I call my insurance agent and they have one tow company try to come out and hook up my spare, but they couldn't get to me because their location seeker wasn't working or something like that, so my insurance agent calls for Roadrunner to have them come and help me fix up the tire.
By that point, I was already waiting for about 2 1/2 hours for the other place but since It's about a 90 minute drive from Montrose to Telluride, I did understand a wait. 2 1/2 more hours go by and I hear nothing from the guy, no call or text of any kind, until finally at around 5pm, the tow guy, Shane I believe was his name, calls me and says that his large truck can't go on the narrow mountain road that leads to where my car was parked.
I can get that to a point but I also know that it's Colorado, we have mountains, If your truck is too large for the mountain roads that are everywhere around here then why not just use a smaller truck?
My phone had also died at that point and I had no car charger so I had to drive my car on the flat tire all the way back to the hotel I was staying at for the week, I'm from Glenwood Springs and was visiting Telluride for a few days, where I got my phone charged up and called the guy back.
Instead of giving any sort of indication that he might be able to turn around and come back to help me, he actually has the nerve to, I kid you not, give me information on how to change the tire myself. You are getting paid to change the tire, not tell me how to do your job. Maybe he misunderstood and thought that I was still in that remote area, I don't know.
Anyway, that same night I talked to my insurance agent and said that I'd like to just have someone come out the next morning at 8am to change the tire.
Next morning, 11/13, comes around and I get up early enough so that I can meet the same guy from this company that I called for yesterday at 8 like I asked. However, apparently he had someone else's car to drop off that morning, which I did understand, but then I proceeded to wait until 10:30am for him to show up.
I did call him around 10 and he said he was stuck in traffic which, again, I understood to a point but it still seemed like a ridiculously long wait just to change a flat tire. I did consider calling a different company at that point, but considering there weren't any local tow companies in the area I was even more concerned about the wait.
When he did show up, he got the tire changed, which was all well and good, but then he told me that I needed to fill up the tire with air. Last I checked, trucks for tow companies should have an air pump of some kind in their trucks at all time because, you know, flat tires happen pretty much all the time in a state full of mountains.
It was a horrible experience, it involved up to 9 hours of waiting for a simple flat tire change, 7 of which were inside the car at a remote location with a dying phone battery, and while I am glad that it did eventually get done but still. read more
