Don't miss this wonderful dinner when you're in the area. It's hidden behind Arbee's, just off Rt. 68. The people are super friendly, the food is outstanding, the prices are excellent and there are plenty of tables with a nice quiet ambiance. The Reuben sandwich may be the best I've ever had! Thank you Tasha for that great recommendation!

This is definitely a hole in a wall and a hidden gem. We tried some other local , big name restaurants and they didn't come close to the great taste of food that this place offered. She got homemade meatloaf, which she loved. I got the prime rib special. Pricey, but it was well worth it. Service was friendly. Interior is nothing special, but it didn't matter anyway. We actually regretted not eating here sooner. We will be back!

Great place for a great meal

We made our usual stop by Tellicafe Thursday... it did not disappoint except that they were out of chicken and dumplings...2nd choice was delish also... As normal, the owner of 30 years personally came to our table to check on us and be sure everything was good... the servers and the food is excellent!! We always enjoy our visit there...

Not real brisket - very fatty, tough, thin-sliced roast beef that actually tasted old. Disappointing.

Stopped by again but, this time, it was sadly not as good. The trout cakes had more onions than trout and the BBQ brisket was tough, thin sliced roast beef with BBQ sauce. I really would avoid the "brisket". They have added a cocktail menu and the service was efficient but the food had declined. Perhaps an off-day or a new cook. I will say today was my only visit (have eaten here 4-5 times) that the Owner was not present and circulating the dining room, so maybe that is the reason.

I am really struggling to figure out how this place has such rave reviews. My friends and I stopped in on our way east during a road trip, and we'd decided on Tellicafe after looking at the options in town. Our alternatives were the standard fast food options, and Tellicafe seemed to have great reviews so we decided to spend the time and get a proper meal inside the restaurant. Our experience was dampened by the fact that service was slow to begin with. It took a great deal of time to get our drinks... but that wasn't the biggest issue with our beverages. One of my friends ordered an unsweetened iced tea... after some momentary confusion from the server (which we chalked up to a verbal misunderstanding), but the drink my friend recieved was "literally watered down Raspberry Lipton". To quote him directly, "if all you have is Raspberry Lipton, feel free to just serve me that... don't pretend it's unsweetened tea." The taste of the food sealed the deal on the notion that we should have skipped the restaurant and headed for a fast food drive through. My pulled pork tasted like it had just done a 10 hour marinade in a bag of C&H Cane Sugar. In addition, the greens were bland and didn't provide a notable contribution to the meal. The only redeeming quality of Tellicafe is that the staff is very kind and friendly to customers. Both the Server and the Manager were very nice and polite to us, making us feel welcome in their space. If only the food quality and service time matched that experience.

Wonderful place to stay. The rooms are squeaky clean and the location is outstanding. They really cater to motorcycles but welcome anyone.

The gal behind the counter was very prompt and courteous and answered my questions about options on the menu. There is a big stove across the bar so you can see some of the cooking that gets done. The only issue with that is the heat...I didn't want my frosty beer glass to warm up while I enjoyed one of their local brews. I'd rather sit away from the cooking action. I ordered the crab cakes which came with coleslaw. The crab cakes had a nice sauce decorating the top of each cake. I asked for more because the crab cakes were a bit more bread filled than crab filled. I know I am spoiled with west coast Dungeness crab as you get a lot of chunks and not well flaked blue crab, but I really was hoping for more crab than I got for the money. The coleslaw was just okay. It was a nice mayo based dressing but lacked a tangy/sweet combo that I just adore. I am not impressed enough to return.

It was pretty quiet (early on a Friday evening). I only saw one employee while I was there and she was very nice. She brought me a glass of water while I waited. The burrito was DELICIOUS. I added tofu to it, which probably wasn't necessary, but I love tofu. I guess I was a little disappointed they didn't really do anything to it. I should not have eaten the whole thing, but I couldn't stop. The chips and salsa were also really good. The chips were very crispy and the salsa was fresh. The prices are really reasonable too! I would go back if I visited again (and I don't think I'd say that about anywhere else I ate).

Just be prepared for a short walk up the back stairs or around the side to reach the entrance. Seating & Restroom: There's both indoor and outdoor seating. The restroom is gender inclusive and wheelchair accessible. Service: Over the past 10 years and many visits, including celebrating multiple birthdays here, service has sometimes felt a bit inattentive or stretched thin. That said, on my most recent solo Sunday brunch visit, the bartender/server was genuinely warm, friendly, and attentive, which made a noticeable difference in the overall experience. It was refreshing and their kind and caring energy was so appreciated. Prices: Prices are very reasonable for the generous portion sizes. Menu & Food: The menu covers a wide range of offerings, which is ambitious and gives plenty of options. I've returned several times to try something new, hoping to discover a standout dish. I haven't quite found anything to write home about yet as most dishes land in the "just okay" category for me. They're filling, but not especially bold, flavorful, or memorable. As someone who really enjoys vibrant spices and layered flavor, I keep hoping the next dish I try will shine, but everything I've had thus far tends to be a bit on the uninspired side. The pancakes have been the most reliable item over the years. They aren't over-the-top, but they're consistently good and comforting. The kids' stack is especially generous and more than enough for most adults. The only French toast option is peanut French toast; a classic version would be a nice addition for those with peanut allergies or folks just looking for regular French toast. On my latest visit, I ordered the migas, which come as four mini tacos with a small side salad. It was decent, though nothing particularly memorable. I ordered a side of hashed potatoes, which were a bit dry. I also ordered a side of the cheese grits, which were unfortunately the low point for me. They were thin and more brothy than creamy. It was a bit like eating nutritional yeast slop. As a Southerner who absolutely loves grits, I'm honestly hoping there may have been a mix-up that day. I'd hate for anyone unfamiliar with Southern cooking, or vegan grits, to think that's the standard, because they can be incredibly rich and satisfying when done well (Sevananda in ATL, for example, has amazing vegan cheese grits), but these were very disappointing. With a little more creativity in the kitchen and perhaps some bolder seasoning or new sauces, the menu could really shine. I truly hope Sluggo's continues to thrive and considers adding more explicitly organic menu options. Just a bit more flavor and flair could really make it a standout.

I found myself in Knoxville for work and the stars aligned; I managed to convince my coworkers to come have lunch here! We found parking in a large lot about two blocks away. It sadly wasn't free but we enjoyed walking around and looking in the shops. The inside of the restaurant was clean, cool, and cute. One wall contains lots of coolers/fridges where they store drink options (shout out to Wiseacre beer!) as well as lots of their tamales, which you can take home to prepare. Staff are happy to provide tips on how this can be done, as one of my coworkers took several tamales home (and her family was pleased with them too!). It seemed like only one person was working. He was extremelyyyy soft spoken and not super friendly, honestly, but our food came out in a timely manner and he wasn't rude or anything. Four of us, myself included, got the chicken tinga tamale, and one person got the classic tamale. I got mine as a meal, which came with rice, black beans, and curtido. I also nabbed a bottled tea. Personally, I didn't love the drink selection -- all a little too bougie/health food-y for me (I'm a simple girl who wants a simple Diet Pepsi or Coke or regular fresh brewed sweet tea) - but no big deal. Everything was quite good! I've been trying to decide if I like tamales or not and this place brought me to the conclusion that yes, I do - I just hadn't had one this good before! The corn was fluffy, the chicken was tender and well-seasoned and plentiful, and the salsa on top rounded it out well. The beans and rice were also very well seasoned and tasty accompaniments. I'd never had curtido (fermented cabbage) before, but I'd say it's a bit brighter than its Korean cousin, kimchi. I liked it but the portion was so large and the flavor so strong that I did ultimately tire of it after 4-5 bites. My coworker took the rest home! Overall, I get the hype around the tamales in particular. If you're craving one, definitely give this place a try!
