I am disappointed in TekSavvy. Besides the massive increase in price over the years, both at the end of the promotional period and then price creep, I recently went online to move my service. There were clear options to keep my service at the current plan, or upgrade or downgrade. Since my needs have changed, I decided to downgrade, saving about $25/month. Clicking on "Next", I get a message "Oops! Something went wrong! Try again or call us at [toll free number])". I tried again, with the same result. I tried again. Same result. I tried again, but kept my current plan. No error, and I was able to proceed. I went back. Tried again to downgrade, and again "Oops! Something went wrong!". Tried again, but chose the upgrade option. It worked. I went back. Tried again to downgrade, and again "Oops! Something went wrong! Try again or call us". I tried again, keeping the current plan, and it worked. Now, I may be a little slow sometimes, but clearly, the system is set to deliver the "Oops" message when one tries to downgrade, and if they were upfront about it...as in, "hey, call us so we can discuss your needs and see if downgrading is the right choice for you"...then, I'd still be miffed, but at least I wouldn't call them out for their dishonestly. In the end, I kept the current plan. As soon as the move takes place, I will likely go to Oxio, who are offering a regular, non-promo plan for faster speeds at a lower price. I was having trouble with my internet service and phone dropping out so I thought I would switch to a smaller, local company offering internet service through my cable connection which had been solid as a rock. I signed up with Teksavvy and between 8 June and 18 July I had 13 drop outs of internet and phone service. I would have to power cycle the cable modem and service would be restored. During this time I contacted support service and they would find nothing wrong. After cancelling the service and returning the equipment I got an email saying I had failed to return the equipment. I did have an email from them after i had returned the equipment saying I had a credit balance, but they still said I failed to return the phone adapter after I sent them notice of my equipment return tracking data with Canada Post. I have no way of proving that I returned the phone adapter so I am going to pay them $56.44 so they don't turn me over to a collection agency. If you do return equipment to Teksavvy after canceling their service, make sure you take a picture of the equipment in the return box. read more

I had Teksavvy previously in Ontario (which used Bell's cable backbone) and had no problems. It was very stable and fast, with 0 outages in 7 years. I was very happy with their internet provided. Their TV service was fine, but the app for Amazon Fire TV could use improving. After moving to Quebec, I have had nothing but problems. Their cable backbone is Videotron, and the Videotron techs have been horrible. The first installer refused to activate the line without entering the home (which I requested as I could not be at home that day, but modem is plugged directly into the coax running to outside distribution panel with nothing between). The second tech did not show up for 2 appointments. I will give one last opportunity to make it right, but it Videotron messes up again, I will have to go with a competitor. I've been a customer for 10 years. Tek Savvy uses Roger's lines for their cable modem. Perhaps they use Bell for DSL, but who uses DSL these days? I have my home phone and mid-grade when it comes to the upload and download speeds. I can watch videos on my tv monitor (hooked up to my PC) while searching for items on my cell phone linked via Bluetooth. I have never had an issue with streaming. In the ten years, I've had one outage (just over an hour) because a Roger's line was broken and two outages because my equipment broke. I've always had friendly and competent customer service reps. On one occasion when my internet stopped, the service technician linked up to my system. He guided me through a few tests of the system, but he couldn't find the issue, so he transferred me to another techie who had more knowledge and access to other ways to diagnose the issue. After a couple of hours, he figured out what exactly was wrong. The issue was being caused by my router, which I purchased, but not from Tek Savvy. The technician told me what was wrong with my router. There was no charge! I have never had to wait for more than a couple of minutes (only during the pandemic) to get through to Tech Services. Just the other day I had to call them for a new Grandstream (telephone) box because mine had failed. What a nice conversation I had with the gentleman who answered in Tech Services (No talking to AI or machines!). Two days later my new box arrived. I have found there's very little difference in price between Tek Savvy and Amazon or others so I have always bought my modems (2) and telephone boxes (2) from them. I was hooked up to Tek Savvy well before the pandemic so perhaps some people have had to wait longer for the service? If they signed up for DSL, then they're dealing with Bell-contracted technicians. These contractors are paid low wages. On their work orders, Bell tells them what to do. Bell doesn't pay a cent more than what the work order says. Maybe I've just been lucky or maybe the reviews here are only from the people who have had an issue, but not the multitudes who are completely satisfied with Tek Savvy. It's quite well known that a majority of people don't write a review for a company or service unless they've had an issue. BTW: From Wikipedia: "Tek Savvy's cable Internet offerings rely on Rogers, Shaw, Videotron or Cogeco infrastructure to connect customers to Tek Savvy Internet. In areas served by Rogers, Tek Savvy cable Internet is offered with either 15, 30 or 100 Mbit/s download speeds with the choice of 150 GB, 400 GB or unlimited downloads." I've attempted to establish a basic internet connection after moving to a new address. It took two weeks to have a technician come in, during which time I was left with no internet and as an online student it's created a difficult hardship. When I pleaded for assistance, they gave me no option aside from using Public WiFi during a pandemic which is both dangerous and embarrassing. To make matters worse, when the technician finally arrived to set up the internet connection, there was an issue with the cord running to the technical room of the apartment building (which I understood even though it was frustrating.) Technician assured me they'd let me know when somebody could come by in advance. I step out for a moment to get some groceries and my medication and all of a sudden I find that they tried knocking on my door without any advanced notice and marked me as a "no-show." Meaning I'd have to setup a new appointment 9 days later. (We're approaching 3+ weeks of no internet at this point.) I've made a grand total of 13 phone calls throughout this time. I've had good agents who I understood couldn't do anything that I felt bad for because I knew they wanted to help and I've had some really bad agents. I was promised from a supervisor a full month refund as a goodwill gesture and when I called about it the following retention agent fought against it and was not willing to understand the difficult situation I was in. Understandably I was upset, however the last agent I spoke to could not have cared less about how dire of a situation I was in with my online classes and having to go out during COVID to submit crucial assignments. It's hard picking internet providers enough as it is already, but I would strongly advise against going with Teksavvy. At least if the competitors don't look much better you'll know they have faster service so you won't have to call ages before you actually need them. You would consider having been a long-term client with them over several years that they would give more options to help their clients, but unfortunately they don't give, they only take. read more

Have had a long and happy history with Teksavvy (TS). When they launched TS TV in Ottawa, I got on board and upgraded my service, paid a $49 attaching fee, accepted their "free" loaner modem, and switched. Cut the cord with Rogers. I wasn't aware of a few things that others should know in advance that have lessened my view of TSTV, but haven't killed it. First, it's Android based. Still OK, but relative newness of Android in homes has caused some issues. First, you will want a friendly and capable interface. In the Ottawa area, you need an Amazon Firestick 4K to get TS TV. This comes with its own interface, and TS TV will show up as one "app", along with a truckload of other bloaty services you may or may not want. So, to start with, you don't just get TV, you effectively get a "Smart TV". TS TV is an app you need to open to get at another interface that shows your chosen TV channels. It shows them as a long list, however, ordered by channel number. There is a way to make a list of "favourites" BUT then ONLY the favourites show up on your opening screen - not any of the other channels you might want from time to time. So you can either get the full list, or a short favourites list, and it is awkward to switch back and forth. We just stick with the full list, but then TS opens at the smallest channel number, and EVERY TIME we have to click down 15 or 16 channels just to get the news. (To be fair, it will stay on the news, but only if you don't switch to another channel before you close it down.) The next thing to know is that if you want a simple interface, you are not going to get it with TS TV on Firestick 4K. VLC (common and hitherto excellent player) media player cannot connect to your NAS if you have one. Seems to be a well-known issue, but no progress is being made. I'm having similar trouble with Archon and Kodi. THEREFORE, if your vision of home entertainment is like mine, viz: You have a big TV, you have the TV channels you watch regularly, you can stream Netflix and the other pay channels content, AND you have old favourite TV shows or movies on some other medium (like a NAS) that is attached to your network, then you're expectations are too high (so far). You can do MOST of these things with TS TV on Firestick 4K as your base. I didn't give TS a better rating, however, because I received a nasty, terse, letter from TS demanding return of my modem (a free loaner promised in their marketing), because they were aware I had bought my own modem. Well, fair enough, it's good to have old ones around to send out to new customers, but watch out, they want it back if you buy your own (no, they don't say this up front anywhere). You can't use it as a repeater or a spare. Problem is, their letter sounded like it was written by a collection agency. Brutal, demanding, threatening. Too bad. Here in Canada, when signing up for Internet or cellphone service you have the option to be abused by one of two (maybe three) conglomerates or try your luck with a newcomer. Most folks, especially in my near-to-middle-age bracket tend to go with the mega- devil we know, Somehow it is better to be abused by a company we are familiar with. This time when I needed internet service I decided to push out of the comfort zone and try out Chatham, Ontario-based Tek Savvy at the recommendation of my computer programming son. I won't lie. There were pitfalls. First, Tek will give you wireless or cable service but either one of these runs on the wires/cables of the monopolists I was trying to avoid. You can run but you can't hide. Setting the account up on-line was pretty easy. They have a fun and fairly informative website. Information came to me via email and was followed up by a phone call from a live person. First problem - Bell has to come and install the phone line before anything works and so they scheduled an installation between noon and nine. (Noon and nine? That sounds like an old Soviet joke I know. Message me if you want to hear it.) Second problem - Bell guy comes but my modem hasn't arrived in the mail so he can't test the connection but everything "looks fine." Not so fine. Modem arrives a day later. No DSL. I did get hold of Tek Savvy's 24-hour support. They told me "90 percent chance it's a faulty telephone cable." I replace the cable. Third problem - Wasn't the cable. Tek savvy "pings" my line and discovers that there is no connection. Ahem, couldn't Tek Savvy Guy 1 have done the ping? TS contacts Bell and schedules a return visit on next available appointment... Fourth problem - Next appointment is 8 days later. Yep, 8 days later "between noon and nine." Really guys?? Really? I run a business from home. I also now own a very cute ipad with a cell plan cause I couldn't go 8 days without internet and even Starbucks kicks people out eventually. Postscript: 8 days later I was visited by three Bell technicians. (Sounds like Charles Dickens, right?) Each one identified a different problem but the first two couldn't get approval from the union to open up some kind of box. #3 was the union guy. He flipped a switch and solved the problem. He blamed Tek Savvy for an incomplete work order. What the heck do I know? Since then the TS service has been great. No drops, good connectivity. Todo bien. Would I chose TS again over Bell, which probably would have had me up and running in a day or two? I think so. I am hoping the abuse was all up front and it will be smooth sailing henceforth. read more

If you're thinking of going with TekSavvy, think again. Had a cable modem - could only have set up 3 weeks from date of phone call. Not timely enough so opted to buy a DSL modem in order to have quicker installation. Customer service representative informed us installation will happen a week from call. "This is GREAT!" Two days prior to installation date, I receive a call confirming installation for a week from this already confirmed date. No one told me the first date was tentative... 9 days later, two weeks from initial call, no one shows for installation. $195 later, poor service and no Internet. Keep up the good work Teksavvy.. You're killing it (or maybe just your company) read more

I don't understand the bad reviews for this company. Maybe we were lucky? We were with them for two years and had to call the customer support only once. It was super fast and reliable. Much cheaper then Bell or all that crap. If they would install their services in California we would definitely go with them! Customer service very polite and helpful. read more

I've had a good experience overall. I'm paying $27/month for 75 GB of bandwith which in value-for-money terms is far better than my former package with Bell. I've been with TekSavvy for about two years and have only experienced a couple of systemic service interuptions (for reference, I live in downtown Ottawa on the edge of centretown). When I moved, suddenly my service experience worsened significantly. After several time consuming calls to tech support, it was discovered that I was never upgraded to a new modem (it is their policy to do so when someone moves). The agent on the other end of the phone to her credit took the appropriate steps to solve the problem, got me my upgrade, and I ended up with a $40 credit for my troubles. While I obviously would have preferred not to have this experience at all, I will certainly give Teksavvy credit for admiting they messed up (kinda refreshing to hear once in a while), and taking steps to solve the problem in the end. I will continue to give them my business for the forseeable future. read more

They are the worst. I waited 1 month before having a technician install internet when they told me it would take 2 weeks. They told me I wouldn't pay during the time my internet was down. When I called them to get the credit, they told me they would no longer credit me during the time internet was down. I think it's pretty simple, you have internet you pay. If you don't have internet, you shouldn't have to pay. I guess Teksavvy doesn't believe in that logic. I have had several issues with TekSavvy in the past as well, but mainly technical issues which were resolved, and once tech issues are resolved I tend to move on. Considering the options, TekSavvy is still the best choice for me but this most recent issue is with billing and is leaving a bad taste: TekSavvy Solutions Inc. charges up to $10 per month for use of the *57 service. The rep I spoke with was not even familiar with *57, and had to search for it, and then read to me, verbatim, exactly what the service is. I put up with it for less than a minute and gently explained to him that I know very well what it is and what it does and who gets access to its results. I explained to him the reason for my call was to review why there is a $5 charge on my TekSavvy invoice for a service the customer can initiate, but cannot access without the assistance of law enforcement. You get dinged for it even if the trace is not successful. What is really annoying is that I had called TekSavvy and clarified there would be no charge for *57 before I ever began using the service. Today's rep said I used it in 2015, too. What does that have to do with anything? I didn't say I called to clarify yesterday. The point is TekSavvy told me there would be no charge, and there is a charge. I was misinformed. Dead silence on the other end. I stupidly thought maybe he was searching for the dialogue button to remove the charge. You know, because of misinforming the customer. Let's not even get into how utterly unfair it is to punish the customer some more. As if the harassing calls aren't enough. I mean, why the hell do you think people bother tracing calls they can't actually access because they need the police to officially request it?! I was going to spend this $5 on milk but hey what am I thinking the big company obviously needs it more. "I can't reverse the charge, ma'am." Another lie. You can reverse the charge. TekSavvy is possibly the worst company I've ever had the unfortunate experience to deal with. They constantly have service outages, to the point where the fact that they even offer a service is laughable. If you ever call the company it takes at least half an hour to get on the phone with a technician, at which point all they can tell you is that they can't do anything because they need Rogers service people to fix things, and good luck ever getting a Rogers technician to show up to a scheduled appointment - this is a discounted Rogers service so you'll be waiting a long time. I know it's one of the only affordable Internet providers available in Canada, but unless you want to spend more time paying for the headache of trying to make your Internet work than actually having Internet, go with someone else. read more

Hey everyone, I just wanted to take some time to warn you about TekSavvy and its issues, Me and my roomates have been with them for a few months now, and they have refused to fix our problems. They send Rogers technicians to the house, then the Technicians say they are not trained on Teksavvy equipment and leave (this happend three times) Then when speaking to the supervisor at the teksavvy customer support we were told "it is what it is" So if you have no problems with Tek savvy, then it is a good service. If your internet does develop problems, they will do nothing to help you. But bottom line, this is the 21st century and if you cant provide a basic service like internet to your paying customers, then you should not exist. read more

Teksavvy Customer Service is absolutely horrible Why is it that tech support never answer their phones? My Internet performance has been beyond slow for the past month, felt worse than dial up modem, even. I've tried calling in on 3 separate occasions and got stuck waiting on line for nearly 40 minutes each time, before i gave up. I had no choice but to cancel my service. You open an online ticket and they treat you like an idiot. Reset the modem, have you reset the modem? it must be the router, unplug the router .. even a moron would go through all those steps before opening a ticket. Why am i paying for a service that i have to do all the troubleshooting myself? If it's going to be like that, at least have a live body on the other end guiding you through the process and sounding like they empathize. I'd rather pay Rogers the extra $20 a month and have them answer the goddam phone. read more
