I have been searching for a family physician since moving to the area. I decided even after the love of the doctors at urgent care, I needed a regular one.
This clinic has a professional office and staff. However, my discrepancy is with the doctor. Specifically Dr. Sami.
I've been there twice, and while they advertise walk ins and urgent care- when I called they insisted I make an appointment (for another day!)
Okay.... as a mother, my time is as precious as the doctors. So I make it a point to arrive on time, as scheduled.
They require payment up front. Fine with me.
The wait time isn't too bad. The waiting room is generally empty, so I guess they really require appointments.
Same day appointments and urgent care aren't true to their advertising. (Same day and urgent care is important! After all, when I feel like I have the flu... getting in same day is ideal.) Nope, this doesn't seem to matter.
First visit- So I schedule an appointment, then arrive on time. Pay.
Seeing the same doctor on staff. I chalked up her cold attitude towards me as having a bad day. I ask her for my medication that I take on a regular basis.
Had my previous, loving doctor not died and us moving- I would never have stepped into an urgent care or visited this doctor.
She is cold. She seems very worried about writing prescriptions. She writes the prescription, no refills. Ok, that's a first! She explains she won't refill without additional blood work. I can understand that.
Despite her making me feel as though I was some sort of drug seeker the first time, I returned with the flu.
Again, upon second meeting she is cold. I ask for a z PAC. I assume I have the same infection as my Mother and husband.
The doctor made it seem as though I was asking for a prescription for heroin. After she "googled" whether it would mess with my other medications- she prescribed it.
I then asked for a refill on my other medication. She told me flat out no. Just no. She said she isn't comfortable giving refills and that I need to see another doctor for that specific issue.
She explained she is a wellness doctor and will only treat "sick" patients.
So there you have it. She's a doctor, but she will only treat you if you have a cold or likewise. Don't go there if you get migraines. She won't treat that, at least not mine.
No, she won't let you walk out with the prescription. She doesn't trust me enough. Obviously she is making a huge point-
As told to me by family and friends after explaining her and my visits- they say it sounded as if she just flat out wasn't welcoming me as a patient.
That sums it up. No, I don't recommend her because-
-bedside manner is cold and uncaring.
-she's not really "urgent care"
-she googles a lot, almost unsure of anything she's prescribing. I like the fact that a doctor wants to check on their thoughts and actions. It just made me feel as though she isn't sure of herself. Made me question how long she had been a doctor.
-Clientele is pretty general for this doctor.
-She made it clearly obvious to me that she doesn't need me, nor want me as a patient.
-I felt as though she didn't care about me as a patient.
Ok-not to go off subject- there is only hand sanitizer when washing your hands. Never any actual hand soap. Normally it wouldn't bother most people, but this is a doctors office. Where's the hand soap for hygiene?
I'm completely ok with that. I definitely don't need a doctor who makes me feel worse leaving, then when I arrived.
I think patients need to be informed, but they don't need to be forced to feel embarrassed or guilty for getting migraines. That's exactly what she's done to me.
Not the typical doctor who (I would assume) decided to go to med school to HELP people.
Do your research, talk with your new neighbors- check the computer. Somewhere out there is a good doctor, who enjoys making people feel better inside and out.
Guess this may be the standard now. This may be why urgent care clinics are so popular and well liked.
That is unless you like feeling as though you're peddling drugs instead of a searching for help with a migraine.
Good luck!
