The usual crafts and service were offered. I perused the flannel shirt sellers, some leather crafters and jewelry. What I like most though is the food vendors. Having had my fill of funnel cakes and Apple skivers in the past I gravitated towards the real food. There were tacos, spiral sliced potatos on a stick and local tri tip sandwiches. The potato line was long, really long so I passed it up. The taco/taquito line was long and after waiting in line over ten minutes I bailed due to no food coming out. The tri tip sandwiches place sounded excellent ( truly a carnivore) so we waited in that line for 20 to 25 minutes only to find out they were out of bread....omg. Well we did get a tray of just tri tip with a couple extra pieces. Surprisingly or not surprisingly not much Apple products. We got a piece of pie of course. They also had a nice kids section with face painting and various things.

I didn't know what to expect since I am not a big fair or festival person. My son has been in the parade for the last 5 years. That is usually it for me, last year I did the festival too. I realized that I wasn't missing anything all these years. It was just a bunch of vendors selling things I can find in stores. I didn't see many homemade items. The only booth that had some cool things was the one selling chimes . Other than that there was nothing I couldn't live without. Food ....meh, nothing I needed to have. I saw a lot of people drinking. Maybe that's why people are enjoying themselves , for me it would be the food. Nothing good in that department, so I think I will continue staying home during Mountain Fest.

Luckily the Chinese food still comes :) I remember going to this as a kid up to a young adult and remembering all the people that would be here and buying cool things but, not anymore. Not as many people come and it's not the same feel as it used to be. The city has commercialized it too much which is very unfortunate.

If somebody passing through Tehachapi was to ask me, what are the two things we need to do while…read morehere? My answer would be an easy one. Number one head to the Tehchapi Museum, and the second would be to enjoy a poor boy sandwich and ice tea at Kohnens. Those two things and you will have a perfect day. When I visited recently I had the good fortune of meeting Judith Reynolds, who is the museum director. I learned that the museum is run by the Tehachapi Heritage League and is solely run by wonderful volunteers. The docents work about one day a month for 4 hours and range in age from late 50's to 94 years young. I love that they have kept the admission free to the public, they wanted to make sure families could bring the kids and not worry about the price of admission. They do have a donation box and rely on the kindness of visitors, volunteers and grants to keep this museum up and running. You can join and become a member of the museum as I did for my family. It's 20$ for individual or 25$ for a family. People spend more than that on coffee a month, what a great way to keep Tehachapi history alive and available to everyone. With that membership you will receive a newsletter 4 times a year, it's called Settlers' Gazette. It tells about upcoming events for the museum and the Errea House Museum across the street. I was unaware of the events they hold here and now I will make sure my family doesn't miss any. Most of all the items on display are donated by families or on loan. Some of the exhibits include farming, railroad, local history, Native Americans and much more. I happened to really enjoy the display and story about Tony Anthony the fire chief for the old Tehachapi City Fire Department. I am part of a firefighter family and enjoyed looking at everything displayed. I also bought fire patches to add to our collection. In the back to the left is such a great gallery honoring the Kawaiisu people of the Tehachapi mountains. They have a movie playing that is really great to watch. There is so much more to say about the Tehachapi Museum it would take all night to write. Just please visit, learn, become a member and tell your family and friends passing through to stop and see what an amazing place Tehachapi is.

Overall, it may be a decent spot for families with young children, but it falls short as an experience for adults and doesn't offer enough to justify the price.

We both enjoyed them. The winery was hosting a comedy show and dinner that night, they had only 2 empty tables and a few tickets left, so we snatched them up with a table. Awesome comedy show with 4 comedians including the owner of The Well comedy club in Bakersfield. I was able to meet the owner of the winery, Mike, who was so nice and accommodating. He has great staff who are ready to suggest wines, and serve you. This place is a hidden gem that does it all right there!
