This National Monument has a visitors center, museum, gift shop, a beautiful walking trail with flowering plants and trees as well as a path with various cacti. In the warmer months it's easy to spot lizards and rabbits, as well as having year-round birds and squirrels. You can learn about civil rights, agricultural labor history, and how Cesar formed a Union that is still in existence today. The Park is located in Kern County (the southernmost county of the California agricultural belt) just 30 minutes east of Bakersfield, in the mountains below Tehachapi. It was the first location of the Union headquarters he formed, the United Farm Workers (UFW). His office has been preserved within the museum exactly how it was the day he passed away. Cesar, and his wife Helen, lived and are buried within the Monument (his dog is buried with them too!) in a beautiful and serene garden. Their house is on the property and was left the way Helen had it the day she passed away. There isn't access inside their home, but they do allow special events in their courtyard area that you'd need to inquire about. Entrance and parking are both free to the public, but you can make donations if you'd like. I love visiting this Monument a few times a year, as it's so peaceful and calming. We usually bring lunch and sit at one of the many picnic tables provided.

Quail Run Ranch is a unique and one-of-a-kind ostrich farm that is basically out in the middle of…read morenowhere. You might not realize how huge and dangerous some of these birds really are, but they average about 9 feet to 12 feet tall and from 250 to 350 pounds. And, they can be quite deadly. During the mating season, the males will instantly try to attack you if you get close. They've got about 6 to 10 different ostriches in separate fenced off areas. If you pay a few dollars for a tour, they will walk you down and show you the different ostriches they have, as well as provide some pretty interesting ostrich facts. Their feet are crazy as they are the only two toed bird on earth. Looking at them it is easy to see how they are related to dinosaurs because it looks just like a dinosaur foot. You can also buy ostrich eggs if they have them available, which are equal to about 24 to 36 eggs. The flavor and consistency is actually pretty good as well and very similar to chicken eggs. They also sell honey and a bunch of other things. Also, in certain times of year, you can go and see the baby ostrich chicks that they raise. If you're feeling adventurous, this is definitely worth a trip, especially if you have kids. This has become a fun stop we started making on our annual visit to the California Poppy Preserve in Antelope Valley. I would call ahead and see what's going on with tours and everything else. Cub Lake is breathtaking and the memorial is set over looking the water. They have a couple benches facing the plaques with the names of our heroes. There is also picnic tables set near by, would be nice for a picnic with friends and family. Number one head to the Tehchapi Museum, and the second would be to enjoy a poor boy sandwich and ice tea at Kohnens. Those two things and you will have a perfect day. When I visited recently I had the good fortune of meeting Judith Reynolds, who is the museum director. I learned that the museum is run by the Tehachapi Heritage League and is solely run by wonderful volunteers. The docents work about one day a month for 4 hours and range in age from late 50's to 94 years young. I love that they have kept the admission free to the public, they wanted to make sure families could bring the kids and not worry about the price of admission. They do have a donation box and rely on the kindness of visitors, volunteers and grants to keep this museum up and running. You can join and become a member of the museum as I did for my family. It's 20$ for individual or 25$ for a family. People spend more than that on coffee a month, what a great way to keep Tehachapi history alive and available to everyone. With that membership you will receive a newsletter 4 times a year, it's called Settlers' Gazette. It tells about upcoming events for the museum and the Errea House Museum across the street. I was unaware of the events they hold here and now I will make sure my family doesn't miss any. Most of all the items on display are donated by families or on loan. Some of the exhibits include farming, railroad, local history, Native Americans and much more. I happened to really enjoy the display and story about Tony Anthony the fire chief for the old Tehachapi City Fire Department. I am part of a firefighter family and enjoyed looking at everything displayed. I also bought fire patches to add to our collection. In the back to the left is such a great gallery honoring the Kawaiisu people of the Tehachapi mountains. They have a movie playing that is really great to watch. There is so much more to say about the Tehachapi Museum it would take all night to write. Just please visit, learn, become a member and tell your family and friends passing through to stop and see what an amazing place Tehachapi is.

Yup I've got my Tehachapi Family to visit in my next life! What a different lifestyle than NYC…read more Britt definitely didn't like getting around in the city when she came for vacation. I've watched my Tehachapi Family grow by generations. Along with my Sister in Spirit Britt we have been through the death of loved ones, births and without a doubt lots of heath conditions. I hope Britt doesn't mind me saying that I mentored her in her quest to be Elite. I'm so proud of her and I enjoy seeing her attending events! Yes I used to exchange gifts with Britt years ago. She was the only one. She loved my Yelp Swag so I sent her big boxes. Definitely my Tehachapi grandbaby received a gift. The family grew so huge I had to stop! So I'm posting a couple pictures of my favorite gift from Britt. I've placed it where I can see it on my daughter's entry table. I currently use it for quick cash to give my building employees because at this point in time I need a lot of assistance! Always remember I love you and think of you daily my Tehachapi Fam! I don't drink wine so I know nothing. Then she also let me sample their sparkling almond wine, now that was absolutely delicious!!! I got a bottle to share with my mom and husband. We liked it so much that my mom went back and got a case . The outside of the winery is beautiful with views of the Bear Valley springs and Tehachapi mountains. The inside of the winery has a cabin feel, lots of tables to sit at and a bar. There is even an outside area to sit at and enjoy the view. I will definitely come back and do a more thorough tasting with my mom.

We printed applications on line and then went to AAA for passport photos. We called City Hall and scheduled appointment for the next week. We went in and paid the fee and we were done. Very easy process and received our passports quickly. The ladies working were very nice and helpful.

If I could give 0 stars I would ! Management at the Stallion springs CSD is absolutely horrible…read more Specifically Laura (GM) and Jim (Maintenance). I have had issues with the water drainage in the easement behind my house since I've lived here (5+ years). Surrounding neighbors have also said they have tried getting help and have been shoo'd away since 2013. I had to threaten to reach out to the fire department in order to get them to come knock all the weeds down that were growing ABOVE the fence line across the whole easement. Not just my backyard. Every winter my property is completely flooded because the water has nowhere to drain, it all piles in my backyard. Jim's solution was to dig the trench deeper and add a sump, that he promised to maintain and pump out when the easement gets full because again... the water does not drain anywhere. After months and months of calling they finally came out and did a half a** job on the easement, so the problem remains. Jim showed up to my house to look at the flooding, because he specifically told me to call him once it floods so he can see it and pump it out. He showed up to my property with an aggressive attitude, raised his voice at me multiple times and essentially told me that it's my fault ( which it isn't ). The water in my backyard drains to the easement just fine, until the easement is full. Once the easement is full, it fills up my backyard. I have left several messages to Laura reaching for help with no response. I even made visits in person and was pushed away and told she was in meetings and would get back to me. Never once have I received a call back. I believe that Laura and Jim are not fit for their current roles working at the CSD due to their lack of communication, Jim's aggressiveness towards homeowners in need of help, and Laura's inability to address real problems.

Every winter, water accumulates in the easement because it does not drain, which causes excessive growth of weeds, swampy conditions and mosquito attraction. Frustration always rises during the winter as there has been no efforts made by the CSD since it was brought up by other neighbors in 2013. This has been an ongoing issue and we all hope to see some change in the near future. Management is nearly impossible to get ahold of, and this has always been pushed to the side and put on the back burner :(
