Old Red Barn Auction - A really good country auction.

While not Christies, this is a very professional and upscale auction in Orange County, NY…read more Finding it takes you along some lovely country roads, but keep your eyes on the road, lots of wildlife, think deer, out for an evening stroll. While the website (www.oldredbarnauction.com) gives you a good idea on whats going to be put up at the monthly (1st Sat of the month) auction, going there is a better idea. You can really see things and look them over carefully. They allow you in, give as much time as you would like and are helpful if you have questions. They have many pieces of furniture, much from older estates being sold. Some come in on consignment. There is artwork there, often some interesting pieces. They have old stoneware on occasion. Stamps come in from local dealers. China sets from "the old country" (which could be Russia, Belgium, Greece and any country in-between). Glassware from the 1920's. Leaded glass. Chandeliers. Some things will go for $10, others for $1,000. I have seen a few things go for much more. VIEWING is usually Friday afternoon before the auction, and Saturday afternoon just prior. Cash, MC, Visa, NO AMEX, local checks 15% BUYER'S FEE - I don't think there is a discount for cash. Seating is not super comfortable. but if you get there early enough its manageable. Or you can stand in the back area. Get there early on Saturday, parking will be difficult, at best. That's one annoying thing. The other is the cost of the food they serve. Ludicrous, and not good enough for the price. 5 stars because you don't go for the parking and food anyway, the auctioneer is good and he keeps things moving along.

We chose the pick up option to avoid trucking our stuff there. Very pleased with our proceeds and Red Barn service. We received a check with no follow up. Give it a try if your furnishings are in good shape.

I hired Mike and his son to conduct an online auction of the contents of my parents home. From…read morestart to finish they were completely professional and their expert appraisal of items enabled us to maximize our return while being realistic at the same time. They were polite, and very sensitive to the concerns of a family when it came to the difficult task of 'clearing out'. I have since referred several friends to them. I feel it is important to react to 'Deinse K.', regarding her review. The auction that you refer to is, in fact, the one mentioned above. Just a suggestion but in the future, perhaps you should read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. Especially the part that says' READ ALL OF THIS BEFORE BIDDING !!' It clearly states dates and times that payments are required and what happens if you fail to comply, specifically: "... Payment is due on Thursday April 5th by 3pm and Pick up day is Friday April 6th from 10am-5:30pm. If you miss the pick up day, your items will be considered abandoned. Invoices will be sent the day after auction. Payments are only accepted thru LiveAuctioneers Invoice. No payments will be accepted at pick up location...." When you FAILED TO PAY in time, the Wittnauer watch you bid on was returned to me, the rightful owner. What did you expect them to do with it? It is interesting to note that with over 400 lots and more than 200 buyers, you were the ONLY ONE to not abide by the terms and conditions. Your review is inaccurate and borders on fraud. You owe the Stasaks an apology.

As a writer, reviews should come easily to me, but words of exaltation may seem contrived…read more Homecomings--They're most important to this woman with a Southern heart even though I live lives in San Francisco as well as Cincinnati. For almost 7 years I've been an online fan of Mr. Stasak's auction.// He goes the extra mile for both the buyer and the seller. He's shipped the impossible to my home in CA. I deeply respect how care comes through from my chosen mailer--Frank, and if you have reason to call--They will be there, or you'll get the call back. // Handling estate auctions appears to be among his special characteristics. It takes a special person to dismantle a family's home, but his supportiveness shines within the reviews. I thank him for hours of enjoyment. Wishing him continued success; with Gratitude And All The Best. Barbara Everett Heintz, Author Of, "Pinkhoneysuckle."
