When one shops at them for home decor items, you are truly choosing a special way of creating a home that is all your own. Housed in a restored historic building prior to its present use, the Olde Engine Works began operating as a machine shop that built huge, steam-powered hoists (winches) used mainly for lumbering and quarrying in 1903, located on 3rd Street in Stroudsburg. Since 1993, it's been an indoor antique establishment of nearly 22,000 sq ft with 100 vendors offering the finest selection of collectibles, furniture, and treasures in all of the Poconos, where my partner, his sister, and I came today. Upon entering this spacious, well-maintained, and carefully organized interior as first-timers, it was like stepping into a time machine powered by vintage lamps, antique knick-knacks, and furniture. Some booths were a little tight to walk through, but not bad. There is so much stuff to see one could literally spend several hours in there. We left satisfied with a china cabinet and solid round table. Prices were very reasonable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We can recommend this place. read more

Neat place to visit if you're in the Stroudsburg area. We found plenty of parking in their lot and were really digging the inside of the building. I liked the character of the old place. As far as the market itself, be prepared to go through plenty of booths laid out along long aisles. The staff roams around to help and you can also ask for help with locked up items at the front transaction area. Everyone was very pleasant to deal with and helpful. Some booth's are cluttered and could use a lot of organization, but others were nicely laid out. It took an hour and a half to snake around the entire building. There was a mix of: memorabilia, nostalgic stuff, lots of glass sets and dishware sets, jewelry, books, magazines, records, CD's, videos, console video games, some sports collectibles and seasonal items. I could go on and on. I found an old Matchbox truck I had been looking for that was cheaper than Ebay prices and a couple old Sega games for my Genesis console that were in working condition. The wife was loving some of the old jewelry, but passed. I was surprised at the asking price for certain things I thought of as "junk" back when I was younger ..... but then I'm reminded of the saying - things are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them. I thought it was a fun time to chat with the wife, literally walk down memory lane and pass some time before we went into town to grab some lunch. read more

So, a friend and I stopped in on a Saturday to look at glass. We were really pleasantly surprised at the nice selection of American glass, we definitely found some unique pieces to add to our collections. Prices were a little on the high side but value was good for what they had - what I bought anyway hadn't been seen in the wild before. I will say that the service leaves a lot to be desired - I bought two rather large pieces and when I got to the counter to put the first one down, the woman at the counter griped at me that I had to leave it on the hold table with my name. I'm like I'm going to buy this - I need to grab something else and she was just nasty. So, I put it on the hold table and go back to grab the other large piece, while my partner checks out and the woman turned around, thinking it was me, saying "Jesus Christ" like I was there to leave more stuff there. She was really short with him. I came back and got my piece off the hold table and I spent a good amount of money there. The woman was just mean and snappy - and conveniently didn't have a name tag on. Be prepared to find some great variety here, just brace yourself when it comes to checking out at the computer. I came through the area a couple months ago and visited here, and I loved it so much that I made sure to plan a visit during my trip to Stroudsburg this week. The building is beautiful; it still holds some of its historical, structural integrity. Their selection of items is so encompassing that it's almost impossible to leave without buying something. Prices range from a couple bucks to thousands of dollars. The staff are very friendly and attentive. A must visit if you're passing through or visiting the area! read more

Fun spot for treasure hunting on a rainy day! Many, booths filled with all kinds of vintage and "antique" items. Of course some booths are better then others, some need a good de-cluttering as there is way too much stuff to see and properly display. The building is hot in the summer and chilly in the winter. I don't know much about antiques but this was a fun place to explore. We were in the Poconos did she skiing but it was too early in the season and raining all throughout our visit. So checking out this antique store was a perfect way to spend some time indoors out of the rain. The place is very large and seemed well organized to me. Underwhelming. On first glance, the exterior and interior appear to be promising, but in reality, the contents offered on the inside are not terribly exciting. Prices are also terribly inflated. The massive space is split into small booths and you have the freedom to roam around without being pestered or questioned, which is nice. In totality, there are some tried and true antiques, but also a lot of stuff from the late 70's to early 90's which I definitely would not consider antiques by any stretch of the imagination. There is a lot of junk to comb through to find the one or two special items (and even then, these are overpriced). There is very little in the way of antique furniture, and most of the offerings here that are antiques, are books, glassware (nothing stupendous, but reasonably priced), and dishes. There is a great deal of estate jewelry, but lacks organization (era, type, and true junk etc.) so it's difficult to really find what you are looking for - in all, a decent selection but it is so jumbled, you'd have to spend a couple hours to really find something that pleases your palate, and the price point, again, is pretty steep. Some vintage toys, vinyl, clothing and accessories are strewn throughout, but no art or interesting posters to be found anywhere. There is very little in the way of antique signage (and if there are any, most are reproductions and not originals). All in all, not worth a detour or a special stop. read more

Tons and tons of stuff well organized in a huge space. Like most antique centers it's hit or miss, but when you hit, you hit big time! We got (among many other things) an old beveled mirrored bathroom cabinet with a glass pull for $12, a set of 8 - 1960s cocktail glasses for $9 and so on.) Most of the vendor's have priced their goods at reasonable prices and their stuff moves pretty fast. We go about 2-3 times a year for the past 7 or 8 years and usually find that the merchandise has changed considerably with each visit. With the exception of a few vendors who are still hawking the same old stuff at unreasonable prices and will be until the end of time. If you walk in and turn right, the stuff on the left side - from the isle all the way to the back wall - all that stuff is crammed in there and overpriced and has been there for years and years. So about a quarter of the place is useless after you visit it the first time. It's a shame they don't get rid of these vendors and get some fresh blood in the place. But pretty much the rest of the place has a lot of fun stuff from chairs to tea cups and tables to bowls, paintings to you name it. I always ask if the price is the best they can do and ALWAYS I have gotten at least 10% off without any hassles at all. read more

Any piece of crap with that honk-nosed FONZIE! In the history of the human race - I believe there is not a single person that collects Happy Days memorabilia . Not a one. -recent BOOKS/ recent magazines (like Oprah related & Martha Stewart related) craft books & magazines, recent cook books,etc , Text books, coffee table books on horses. Science books, How To books. All trash & filler. DUMP EM now! -Romance paperbacks. (NOBODY collects these- if they did-they can get them at the Salvation Army for .99 cents you foo-foo head) -Scratched record albums. No matter how old OR classic. - Anything pertaining to ELVIS after his death in 1977 . Especially PAPER items. -78 records. Nobody collects these UNLESS they are OBSCURE blues or jazz & obscure early rock. Most vendors have big band music, movie soundtracks, Bing Crosby, Benny Goodman , opera, classical, Irving Berlin, Waltzes , female vocals. All pretty much clutter. Christmas records? Toss 'em! Children's records in poor shape? Garbage! - old damaged cookware. Old tin utensils. Tin pots. Tin cookie cutters. Ceramic coffee mugs from the past 20 years. - - McDonalds items / Happy Meal prizes. - old Chinese Checkers / old chess sets / old checkers games - PLASTIC Lunch boxes. Not the metal ones the PLASTIC ones! - the small one-inch ceramic animals from Tetley Tea boxes. - BASKETS/ wicker / rattan - fake flowers / fake fruit / fake plants - tin Beer trays in poor shape with bad OR boring designs - Ceramic pots / plant pots - Chia pets / chia heads -plain basic picture frames (Unless they are really old and really UNUSUAL & decorative) - ugly LARGE ceramic items from Marshalls & Pier 1 Imports. - most non-antiques. Things that are from the 1990s & 2000s - Recent comic books from the 1990s & 2000s , newer baseball & newer sports "collectible" items, broken Franklin Mint stuff . - Anything with a HOLOGRAM. Just trying to help clean up!! Best thing I ever bought from here: a vintage 1960s mod/psychedelic cosmetics cologne gift set for $12.00 . SOLD it on eBay and got like $300.00 or so for it! The building is pretty cool and of formidable size. The merchandise runs the gamut from primitives, Victorian, Deco to Vintage. You won't really find a lot of top notch pieces here. There's certainly no focus on period: a real potluck of stuff. It is pretty disorganized in some booths, and there's a sizable amount of plain old junk. But it does not smell badly or overly musty, so if you are inclined to pick through some junk you may find a treasure. :) read more

Friendly staff, was a little hot as there are only a few industrial fans to cool it down. Most prices are fair, but furniture in their big furniture room is way overpriced. Definitely one of my favorite places to lolly gag in. If you need a better price, just ask. They also will gladly hold an item for you for 24 hrs. Booths are always going on sale and get new things a-lot. I go for the medicine bottles which come with the boxes. They are very decently priced. They are quite knowledgeable of what they have and could find something you are looking for. This is not a place for strollers and backpacks. Leave the touchy kids at home. My other favorite booth is the Nazi booth. My brother and I fight over who gets what. One ring in there is possibly fake tho. Do your research before buying. It's alot of fun for the family of older kids. Everything you buy gets wrapped up well. Bigger items will be sent to your car for you. There's also a new show room with a bunch of furniture. I look in there from time to time, but that part never seems to change. The building in of itself is beautiful and a great big piece of history for this town. There is only one person who works there who "seems" to be a Debby Downer when my brothers visit. But then again we go before it closes. Must be tired. That's another thing. We have been in there whilst it closong and they don't throw you out like other stores do. They slowly close up as you make your final decision. I'd say, visit here at least once a month to see what's new. Items do change as old ones are bought. Trust me, I notice which booths are constantly changing. Fun rainy day visit! read more

A decent place, be prepared to walk a lot as the place is sprawling. Also look in all the knooks and crannys for more dealers. rices are hit or miss. Some are spot on and others just seem to be pulled out of a hat and are just priced off the map. BUT, there are many good deals to be had too! They have nice little area where you can sit and eat junk food basically, but at least it is something. The place is huge and impossible to heat or cool properly, so dress appropriately. read more

I drove here from NYC and got there at 4:45 pm on a Saturday. I knew exactly what I wanted and no one was available to help me..but they were available to tell me they were closing. My friend told the manager we came from the city and knew what we wanted (we were standing in front of the merchandise) and the manager told him they open at 10 am tomorrow morning. While the place is a very good size and it is packed with items, there really weren't that good of a variety of antiques. This is THE PLACE TO GO if you want booth of glassware after booth of tons of glassware. You can tell some spaces have not been maintained in some time as there was lots of dirt and dust on everything in the booth. Lots of booths are way over priced for this economy and we saw many reproductions being sold as "vintage". read more

Hello. I wish didn't have to write this but I am amazed at what has actually not happened since. I visited this place in May 2011. I found them about 15 minutes before they closed. The woman that greeted me was great and even helped me find a dealer who might have what I was looking for. The dealer was on his cell phone and stopped for a moment to answer me and tell me about some things he had. I then said that I was interested and would wait for him to finish his call. He never came to me nor could I or they find him. They said he probably left (WHAT?!). They looked to see if his vehicle was gone and it was. They gave me his number and I called and left a message. My call was not returned. I called a few days later as I was leaving the state. No call back. I emailed the store for help and was also worried that something had happened to him. They never answered either! Guess they don't need business there. Today I tried to contact them via their website but the contact info doesn't work. Hmmmmm. read more

probably the best and most diverse antique store i have visited. the space is enormous and there are dozens of different vendors carrying everything from furniture to glassware to vintage board games and glass chickens. the vendors definitely vary in price-- i'm not an antiques expert but i would assume some booths are more "collectibles" and some are more "old junk". regardless, there are some great deals to be had and all the staff are incredibly nice (if not a bit pushy) i came across a beautiful antique mahogany cabinet (i don't know what to call it really-- taller than a credenza but thinner than a buffet) that would fit perfectly into my NYC apartment. a similar piece at c&b would have cost $2000 and this piece was better crafted, nicer looking, and only $40 (yes, 40!). a nice staff member put it on layaway for me. they explained that they don't ship anything because of the expense, which is understandable. so the next weekend, we rented a cargo van and drove back up. it wasn't until we got there that we realized they really aren't any help, i mean, they are pleasant, but i kind of assumed that a place with so much furniture would at least have a wool blanket and/or some shrink wrap to pack up the furniture. even some styrofoam for the corners would have been appreciated. but the guy that was helping us seriously glared when we assumed they would have these things. instead, we had to drive around nowheresville, pa for an hour and a half looking for a cheap place to buy blankets. when we finally got back, some of the staff helped us load it into the truck. now that i am home and looking at it, all the hassle was totally worth it and I am absolutely amazed that such a beautiful piece of furniture (in perfect condition, i should add) was so inexpensive. ps. this place gives my husband an excuse to use his best "old school" will ferrell voice: "we're going ANTIQUING" read more

I assume the good reviews are actually employees or family friends. At first glance you think there is a lot there, which there is if you like stuff dealers bought for a quarter at a yard sale. Of course there is always a possibility of finding something decent, but the few actual antiques I saw, which were nothing great, were ridiculously overpriced and were very damaged. read more
