And I ended up speaking with the owner about the pre-Run The Jewels career of EL-P and Killer Mike! It's the kind of music appreciation conversation that I hear from professionals in niche media, but never find in real life. Support this place any way you can! This is a must only if you want used/vintage vinyl, especially prog, jazz, and world (although hip-hop and avant-garde sections pretty solid as well). Overall the prices are fair. I have found some great bargains, but to be fair, the cheaper vinyl veers more towards VG+. I've also found some obscurities and rarities (unpretentiously) mixed in, and those can get expensive (but again the prices are always fair). The owner is really nice and his partner owns a vintage store in the same strip. I'd put this in my top 20 record stores overall, especially considering the prices for this level of quality and rarity.

That's fair, I suppose. But when I'm spending $200 on records, I thought I would just ask. He seemed to get pretty offended that I was "asking him for a discount" as he so put it. Pretty strange way to speak to a new customer in my experience. There were other things that made experience there a little uncomfortable, but I'd rather just leave it at that. Needless to say, I won't be coming back. They had a nice selection, which is why I was spending so much money there and would've been a repeat customer. But oh well.

Reminded me of a record shop that I used to frequent back in Queens, NY in the 90s. If you're into rock and metal, you'll definitely love the selection here. They had all kinds of cool albums, including some really interesting sets and Record Store Day releases that you just don't see everywhere. They also had a bunch of reggae, soul and dance LP's. Prices were a little bit higher than you could find online for most things, but there were some deals here and there. My daughter found a bunch of singles for a buck or two that we're going for more money on eBay. She was psyched. One thing that I was disappointed with was that the selection appeared to be like 95% new vinyl. I was hoping to find some used bins to look through but it was really slim pickens for diamonds in the rough. That aside, gotta love a record store like this. It's a humble location; it's in a quiet strip mall off Oakland Park blvd. Honestly, as we pulled in to the mostly empty parking lot I thought we had the wrong location. But as we entered I realized what few mall customers there were, were all in the shop. And what a nice space it was. Old school basic layout that I liked. Just boxes and boxes of vinyl to sift through. They were well organized, with punk, funk, and more all set in their areas. And the RSD specials were displayed above each of the areas they related to. It's not a huge store, but with the limited quantity it helped me find a couple things I liked. Glad to make the acquaintance of We Got the Beats, and hope to be back soon.

And your guide is the sweet and super friendly owner, Sebastian! He welcomed me as I walked in and asked if I was looking for anything specific. Unfortunately he didn't have the purse I was looking for at the time, but he did have all sorts of other fun things like 80s purses, holiday decor, fun costume jewelry, etc. I left with a pair of earrings I loved. The vibes are it! I absolutely loved the 80s decor, so much I thought about buying some of the furniture, but it wasn't for sale unfortunately. But it definitely makes for great photo ops with friends. The store is small but it is FULL of goodies. It's like a retro Eye Spy and I loved it. Most amp/guitar techs are butchers, thieves, and just plain assholes. The guys at Crown are none of the above. They fixed my amp promptly and held great communication the entire process (so I knew what I was paying for). They also have a cool collection of vinyl, turntables, cool shirts, movies, etc. If you need your equipment fixed, this is the place to go!

The staff seems to be hit or miss, times I have been greeted and they are very attentive with showing me where something I am looking for is where other times when I walk in there isn't one word said to me. Not a huge deal but I like consistency when it comes to friendly staff. The location is pretty huge and the shelves are pretty easy to find because everything is labeled pretty nicely but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to where they are located throughout the store. Prices are reasonable but there have been a few items I have found for slightly cheaper on ebay (including shipping) or other sites that specialize in vinyl records. I like that this place does have a nice amount of cassettes as well but I would like those to be organized a lot more than they currently are. The store is super clean and very well lit and I like that they offer listening parties for some upcoming albums that are very hyped!
