These guys don't have a clue! Should actually get no stars, but hat wasn't an option on here. We got our ducts cleaned by Sani Clean a couple months back. After firing up the furnace for the first time now that it was cold, we could smell burning coming from the vents and there was also some smoke coming through. The furnace then shut itself off and stopped running (High limit switch kicked in as it should as a safety feature and shut the furnace down). I called Sani Clean and talked to the owner, Jeremy and he said something could have got lodged down below during the cleaning, sometimes this happens. Jeremy from Sani Clean stood behind their work and gave me the number to Tech IV and said to have them come out and if it was something they did in the cleaning, he would cover it no problem. Tech IV sent out a younger guy that was down in the basement diagnosing the problem. I went down there after awhile and asked if he found the issue. He immediately said that I might want to start thinking about getting a new furnace, because the one we have is builder grade and they make more energy efficient ones now, and yours is known for leaking carbon monoxide. Our house was built in 2001. He then removed the "high limit switch" as he called it and hooked up his meter, telling me it was bad and that he would see if he had one in his truck. He told me it would be $95 for the part, $69 for the service call and whatever his boss said for labor. I pulled out our old paperwork from a repair last year that showed we had the high limit switch replaced just over a year ago, and the part was only $25 and the install cost me $40. Quite a difference. After I told him this, he called his boss and then went back down to do some "additional testing" He then came back up telling me that I needed a new motor. That my motor was overheating and causing the burn smell. He said that he has an aftermarket one on his truck and if it works, it will be $365 and if he has to order a new OEM one that will be $595. plus $69 for service call and whatever his boss says for labor (he was talking to his boss at various times on his phone). When asked about the limit switch, he said, no it is now fine, it's definitely the motor. After not having confidence that this guy new what he was talking about, I called a buddy of mine that is a mechanical contractor for a city and asked him to give a second opinion. Tech IV left and I called Jeremy from Sani Clean to let him know what was the outcome. Jeremy said no problem that he would take care of the Tech IV service call (standup guy!). Later that evening my Mechanical Contractor buddy came over and I told him exactly what Tech IV said. He unscrewed about 6 screws, slid out the blower motor and looked inside the housing to find a piece of duct tape wrapped around the shaft of the motor that was all tangled and melted to to the motor (obviously causing the over heating). My buddy took a utility knife, cut out the tape and put the motor back in. Everything was back up and operational without issue. Whew! just saved ourselves over $700. So this serves as two reviews, Sani Clean - Stand up company, great owner, who stands behind their work and tries to do what's right! Tech IV - not so much! read more
