I discovered this extremely conscientious, forward thinking breeder three years ago when I was hunting for a low drive Border Collie whom I could train to do pet therapy work. I vetted breeders all over North America to find the ideal low drive Border Collie. Team Reeves is the gold standard. Jamie is so smart, gentle and intuitive, it's scary. He passed the therapy dog evaluation with a "complex" rating (and not a predictable rating) when he was only 14 months old- an uncommon feat for therapy dog candidates. Everywhere we go, people stop me and tell me how beautiful and friendly my dog is. His elevated understanding of his part time therapy role is apparent and uncanny; he actually seeks out engagement from strangers. Unfortunately, I don't believe this breeder is breeding for the wellness of these pups or to better this breed in any way, but for color and looks only sadly. We did a ton of research and team reeves ranch was one of the breeders we came across that had wonderful reviews from other owners that have previously purchased their pup from them. After doing more research on the type of pup I was looking for in regard to health, temperament and papers I was sold on team reeves through all the wonderful reviews and mentions of the care they put into all the puppies and it was a bounous for them being close to our home location. We immediately came across our now wonderful little river and wondered why she was discounted in price compared to all the other puppies on the site. after reading her description it has shown that she had a slight overbite, which was never a big deal to me since my husband and I have no plans of showing this little girl. I am a registered veterinary technician and have the resources to assist with her medical care and specialist appointments in the future so had no problem providing this girl with a home. We continued with putting the deposit down for her and purchased her when she became available to go home. Immediately after purchasing our new puppy River we noticed her massive overbite (larger than expected), but took her home anyway. When we got her home we noticed she was a very heavy sleeper and did not respond to sound like "Normal puppies" and only a couple of days after purchasing her we took her in for a general wellness examination, fecal testing (Which was positive for giardia and coccidia fyi) and the next steps on how to take care of her overbite with my Veterinarian I work with. She started to provide the exam on my new puppy and realized she does not respond to stimulating sounds or noises and that my next steps would be to get her seen from a dental specialist for the overbite and to have a baer hearing test done on her to confirm if she has partial hearing loss or bilateral hearing loss. After doing research on baer testing in the area a neurologist Dr. Colette Williams from uc davis provided her with this testing and confirmed the hearing loss with what is shown in the pictures her test results. Mind you during this whole time I am providing all this information to the breeder with her Claiming she has not dealt with a deaf puppy before from her litters and have little resources on this. After providing her test results of the baer hearing test concluding that she is fully bilaterally deaf and cannot hear and was provided on the reason why this could have happened. She said I could keep her and have a full refund on her purchase price or I could send her back and they would keep her at team reeves ranch. I did not want to send her back, and started to do my own research on raising a deaf puppy. I'm 100% at fault for not doing my own exam on her upon purchase and vetting better when it comes to the breeder we get our pup from. We kept her and she is my whole life! I would do anything for this girl regardless of her disability. It's upsetting to know if I would have sent her back she would have just been resold for a cheaper price. I am very grateful for the refund we received for purchasing her and expressed this to the breeder. Fast forward to now. We had an owner bring in a puppy from team reeves ranch a black and white runt to our hospital.The puppy has hearing loss, but the best thing is to have a baer test done to see how deaf the puppy is which was explained to The owners.The breeder claimed she would get the puppy baer tested herself and keep the puppy if he is deaf. I messaged her and thanked her because I love that a breeder is willing to keep the puppy or place it in a proper home that can assist with these needs. Once again I never once blamed, talked negatively or shamed her breeding because I know mistakes happen. I was told the puppies would be better vetted and examined for these issues, But she just listed the puppy for sale for 1500 only a few days after my discussion with her. mind you for a disabled dog that needs special care. It was just sad and I really thought highly of this breeder until it came down to another one of their puppies coming up deaf. Please do really good vetting on the breeder you are going through and if they are bettering the breed or just popping them out in multiples for the money. It's really sad and upsetting that this has happened and I hope the little guys finds a good home. 7/23 - Her reviews were taken down on fb because of my negative review on her page and blocked me in the process without actually attempting to solve the issue. Please again do your research on the breeder you use. Breeders should be bettering the breed and not breeding for color because "the people on the waitlist request it" This situation is sad and very upsetting. World, please meet Bubba Napoleon. He's a small ball of crazy that enjoys chewing on flop flops, barking at me to throw his squeaky toy, and sleeping. He also really enjoys eating... a lot...like it's his second favorite thing to the squeaky toy. He found me by searching the classified ads - "Human willing to bend over backwards for cute ball of fur." Joking - I found him through Team Reeves Ranch. Then he took over my life in the best way possible. My Mom found Viki when she was researching her own border collie puppy. We've had border collies my whole life and knew exactly what kind of looney bin we were going to end up in, but did it anyways. After my Mom went through the waitlist process and found her Reilly, I perused the site and found one little guy that had yet to be adopted. I quickly emailed my application over to Viki and Bubba became my new bud. Bubba is so well adjusted. He lives for a snuggle and loves playing with his sister when they're together. Viki spends eons of time with them - training, exposing them to different things, and introducing them to the world. You can tell she LOVES her pups and qualifies the people she adopts them to. You have to be careful with Border Collies - if they are reared incorrectly it is terrible for the dog and for the pet parent. They are high energy dogs with insanely high intellect, so don't get one if you don't intend to spend a lot of time with them over the course of their lives. Viki does everything she can to set them up for success AND teach the new pet parent about how to care for them. She's truly the BEST. If you're going to purchase a puppy from a breeder rather than adopt, do the world a favor and purchase from a responsible breeder. First and foremost, I want to thank Viki for our two incredible, loving puppies. We had just lost our amazing girl, Piper, when I started browsing border collie breeders. I did not think I was ready, nor was I actively searching when we found Viki. My top priorities for a breeder included someone that was caring, dependable and respectable. In early March 2023 I lost my beloved Monte (an almost 18 year old Rat Terrier) and it was only a few days before I knew I had to look into getting another dog. I had researched Border Collies and had always wanted one but I was weary because I am a teacher. After posing some questions to Border Collie groups on Facebook the advice was "you can definitely handle one but try to get a 'low drive' one"... so I began a search and found Team Reeves Ranch. I was a little concerned with the distance (they are in California and I am in Upstate NY) but I went ahead and filled out the application at like 2am on a Sunday....thinking I would maybe get approved and have a puppy to start the summer. Viki contacted me around 11am that same day and had a puppy born that Friday before that fit my "dream puppy". That, coupled with a bunch of "signs" made me pull the trigger on a beautiful dilute blue girl from the Mirror and Panda March 2023 litter. Along the way Viki answered every question I asked (even some asinine ones) and the updates they provide made me feel connected to my puppy throughout the eight week wait. Seeing all the stuff they do to prepare the puppies for successful lives made me feel more at ease, and it has shown in how well she had adapted. The prep they do and the prep they ask of you makes a WORLD of difference. In early May my puppy (MinnySota Phoenix) came home via flight nanny. We unfortunately had an issue with the flight nanny but Viki, who had nothing to do with the issue, was there to support/help and more than made up for it. Since Minny has come home she has added endless joy to my world. From the get go she was bright, well mannered, well adjusted and a hit with all she met. I planned ahead and had a set of five individual Puppy Training sessions set up.After the first one the trainer said "your puppy is already where most puppies are trying to get to with the five sessions" and I think that is one of the biggest testaments to what Team Reeves Ranch puppy is--well prepared. As a side note, the trainer also had been working with a couple other border collie puppies and when I mentioned how Minny was supposed to be "low drive" she said "oh you can definitely tell she is mellower than other border collies".... and shes absolutely gorgeous! So my review of Team Reeves Ranch is 5 stars because its the max level allowed. Honestly I could not have asked for a better puppy or a better overall experience.... i would give Viki ten stars if I could!!! We bought our puppy naughty here, this is the first time in our life to raise up a puppy. The puppy is in really good health and are very active the first day back home. Terrible service. I bought my puppy tuco from her. Tuco is a beautiful dog but when we received him, the service was disappointing. It wasn't Viki and her husband who dilverd the puppy to us like she said she would in our phone call conversation. She sent someone else to deliver the puppy, who didn't even know what she was doing. The lady Viki sent didn't even bring the puppy's scent litter toy that Viki says every puppy gets when ever someone purchases one of their puppies. When we got the puppy not all of the information that Viki says in the TEAMREEVESRANCH go home video was in the bag that came with the puppy. I even texted Viki if we can have the rest of the information we needed and the scent toy delivered to us. She never answered me back.
