READ THE CLAUSE IN THE HIDDEN CONTRACT THEY SEND
Amber R.

Great concept, very unethical business practices. I wish I could have stayed as it seems it would have been a great way to get in shape and join a community, but it's not worth it. They'll start you off with $180/month but have a clause in the contract that gives them the right to charge you $1000/month without your consent. That is ridiculous! I called to get this situation rectified and to get this clause out of the contact (that I didn't even know I was signing--they generate a signature to contracts without your consent), but the owner never responded. I guess he was hoping he'd get away with it!! Shameful!!! Also, it's ALL locations that are owned by the same guy. Not just the Sandy Springs location. AVOID THEM ALL!!!

I love kickboxing and Team Octopus
Nicki K.

I lied. Last year, in my review, I said it will be my last review of Team Octopus since I'm no longer a member. But I'm back. Not as a member but as a guest. I think I'm gonna keep updating my review on a yearly basis since I've been doing that since 2013 for 4 years. Since my first review in 2013 to my last review in 2016, I've given Team Octopus a 5 stars every time. I still maintain my 5 stars review, cause they really are just that awesome. For the month of July, a Team Octopus member could bring friends to gym to workout with them. All they have to do is register and sign a waiver. Since I am a former member, all my information is still there so I didn't have to do anything extra. Jet remembers me too so it was perfect. I just cannot go workout without my friend who has a member. I would have to wait for her to check in. What has changed in the past year. There is no more wall. However, there is a fence instead. I'm okay with that since I don't feel claustrophobic and hot like last time I was there. Mark doesn't teach as often as he used to. Since I still see him in the gym in other classes, I assume he is training. Joseph has early classes so cannot make it but he remembers me and waved to me. Two new kickboxing instructors have been hired to teach the later kickboxing classes. So far, I've only taken Victor's classes at 7 pm. I like Victor. A lot. I love his personality. He is so outgoing, always smiling, but tough enough for you to push you through. I really enjoy his class. He only gives you one break in class during midpoint. However, when he shows his moves and combos, I feel there is a bit of a break there. All his combos are manageable even if they're longer. He also watches you if you're not doing the moves correctly. I still love Team Octopus. They are working on two more locations - Sandy Springs and Midtown. They are growing! 98/2017

spacious floor for jujitsu classes

Awesome martial arts gym, friendly coaches and overall great workouts(: This is a really great gym whether you're trying to get into better shape with their kickboxing and boxing classes or learn new skills from their jujitsu and muay thai classes. They also have a crossfit section for those who are interested and a jujitsu class for kids in the afternoon. The parking isn't huge but it's good for the volume they get every hour. The gym is kept very clean and spacious and they have a cubby section where you can keep your belongings during your workout. The bathrooms have lockers and showers (about 3). The people at the front desk were friendly extremely helpful so don't be afraid to ask them if you have a question. The coaches and also very friendly and willing to help anyone new get started. Membership is a bit expensive, which to me is the only downside to this great gym. It's $150 signup fee and then separate fees depending on whether you're doing crossfit, kickboxing, muay thai, etc.. Also, for kickboxing, you can rent gloves for $2 a day...but if you have your own gloves I suggest you use them because you're better off smelling your own sweat than someone else'slol You can purchase gloves at the gym for about $45 and hand wraps are ~$10. They also have other gym merchandise you can buy if you're interested. Still, an overall great place to work up a sweat!!

Valitus Strength and Fitness - Rebecca, me, & Isa (coach) after our Memorial Day Murph WOD!

Valitus Strength and Fitness

(32 reviews)

This is the one & only place that I truly believe a 5 star rating just isn't enough! Where do I…read morestart.. This may be a long one so buckle up. First and foremost, I am just your average chick in the sense that I do NOT habitually workout, count my calories, meal prep, etc. I did have a membership at LA Fitness for 3 years (2015-2017) but was really only actively using it for 1 year so I finally made the decision to cancel it. I first step foot into this box July 4, 2017 when my boyfriend invited me to come to their post-WOD ("workout of the day") BBQ. I literally only came for the food, sorry! At the time I still held a membership at LA Fitness and had absolutely NO intentions of committing to another gym; Especially not CrossFit. But of course everyone urged me to give it a try and I left that day with the mindset that CrossFit was a cult (lol). [...Fast forward to March 2018 when the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games were going on...] My boyfriend asked me to come to the box with him every Friday this month to record his WODs and so I did. On the last week of March, he spontaneously bought me a Groupon for their Fundamentals class ($32) and the rest was history... I've never found a fitness program that I enjoyed until I started CrossFit. Reasons why I love this program (and why it works for me): *Your WOD is created for you & released on their app (Wodify) 8PM the night before so you never have to pre-plan before coming. Plus, they're typically only 15-30mins long but it'll get your HR way up there bc of its style of HIIT. *You always work out in groups/classes which is motivating when you feel like stopping mid-workout but everyone around you is still going strong. Everyone is also so welcoming & full of encouragement! *If there is an exercise that you are unable to do, there is always a scaled version of it or some type of exercise you can do to work on those targeted muscles. *There is always a coach present to stretch you out as a group, ensure everyone warms up properly, & guide you throughout the WOD/correct your form if necessary. *They have a great sound system & nothing is better during a workout than music drowning out the sound of your pain. More about the Groupon Deal: Fundamental classes start at the beginning of every month. Classes are MWT @ 7:30PM for the first 4 weeks. You will then graduate to the intermediate class which you will be allowed to attend for the following 2 weeks and decide if you would like to purchase a membership. You get a cool swag bag for joining which includes free monthly body composition analysis at Max Nutrition. More about CrossFit Valitus: Classes are offered 6 days/week (Monday-Saturday) with M-F at 6AM, 7AM, 12PM, 4:30PM, 5:30PM, and 6:30PM and Saturday at 9AM or 10AM. Some Saturdays are partner workouts to which you're more than welcome to bring a friend/family member as long as they're familiar with the WOD's exercises. They're also open on Sundays at 12PM as an open gym so you can come and work on any exercise that needs improvement. Oh, did I mention you get access to Dynamo's Swim Club!? Lastly, there are currently 4 coaches and every single one of them is awesome in their own way. *Crystal--The owner and awesome fundamentals instructor *Art--The head coach who's great at making sure you're stretched out for you WOD and trains our triathlon team *Rene--Beast crossfitter who also holds flexibility and strength training classes a few times a week *Isa--Best WOD DJ and motivator since she Rx's just about every workout (sometimes 2-3x/day!) Whew, that was a long one but I warned you! I know CrossFit may seem intimidating and even scary to the average person but don't knock it till you try it. It's only been a little over 2 months for me and I've already seen changes within my body and PR'd more exercises than I could even count. I'll end off with this quote: "A year from now you will wish you had started today"

Sky Gym - Our beautiful studio!

It's a great, clean facility with really high ceilings, and SHOWERS! Plus, they have *lots* of open practice opportunities, which is really nice. If you go and it's difficult or challenging, it's supposed to be! It's a full-body strength workout (that can even get into cardio territory sometimes if you're on the apparatus long enough). I couldn't do *anything* in my first few classes, but after maybe a couple of months, I could do enough to do a very small "performance." Just keep at it. You'll be surprised how quickly you build strength if you commit to at least once a week. Most important, though: have fun. The instructors will do their best to make sure that's happening!

So far my impression of the studio is that everyone are professionals at their craft. They are…read moreextremely clean and friendly team. Safety is a top priority. What I like is their mind body app that makes viewing and booking effortless. Membership prices are very affordable and great combinations of types of aerial excercise equipments (eg sling) The downside for me is that the first instructor courses were disorganized and not many get to try everything. felt rushed to briefly do every single one. I come in for my 3rd class and still disorganized despite having only 3 students. All in which have different levels. Level 1 sling class even then is too advanced for me. The instructor just dove right in but i think he forgets that when it comes to students like myself, I have never ever activated or used any muscle movement similar to what they are doing. He said to me you're just overthinking it. Yet the movement isn't understood by me. Even watching, I can't connect my many different movements "just" to do a simple flip into the sling and then have the fabric lay on my pelvis bones, balance and flip legs over. I'm sure this isn't the only way to teach...and I'm gonna look for a place that offers more structured and fluid sessions. Maybe start off with workout routines on The sling then just a "just move your body into any shape" or "just tuck your knees in and JUST bend your arms" then "voila". I won't be paying a drop in cost or even a membership just to hang or have such chaotic class. One minute this and that yet no real idea what those moves are even called. I left 20 minutes early as most moves were really too advanced for me. All I can do I stand in the sling. I'll be buying my own sling and watching videos online it's no different because all sky gym offers is this "watch" and "learn". You grab your own support pad.. They might help "lift you" into position but doesn't help understand how to do It yourself.. Also they do not really look at me when teaching but everyone else. Not really included till I speak up. Maybe it's just my instructor. They should look and make eye contact to EVERY STUDENT. not just one.

While it may seem like there's "not much to review" when it comes to gyms, I genuinely believe not all gyms are the same. Onelife clearly takes pride in their space. The facility is clean, the machines are well-maintained and up to date, and they pay attention to the little details (which I definitely notice). The personal training rates are also very reasonable, and overall, the vibe is exactly what I look for in a gym. You can tell most people are there to actually work out--not just hang around, socialize, or hold up equipment. I really appreciate being in an environment where people are focused, respectful, and using the gym for what it's meant for. If you're looking for a gym that feels welcoming, well-run, and truly built for people who want to move and improve, Onelife Fitness Perimeter is it. I'd also like to give a shout out to the general manager Kamera, she is an absolute ray of sunshine.

I've been a CFC member for a little bit over a year - and absolutely love it!…read more Who should consider this gym: I think there is a range of fitness levels at this gym and a good mix of men and women, but think it is mostly focused on people who are just starting out Crossfit and don't want to feel intimidated, business people who are busy and need weekends / odd times to go to the gym (early am or late night), and people who aren't as focused on developing this as a competitive sport. Having said this, there are definitely a few ppl that are competition ready too, but if that is not for you there is no pressure. It's all abt having fun and being healthy. I guess what I am saying is that this is a more laid back gym than other Crossfit gyms. For me - the above is a good fit, but it is not for everyone. Why I love it: I LOVE the people. I love the community. I feel safe. I don't feel judged. I feel heard. This is a very welcoming gym, so we always have drop ins and people who hear abt it through word of mouth. Saturday's there is one WOD (workout of the day) so is a good opportunity for a lot of people to catch up and connect. There are lots of social activities we do together, planned and sporadic. Recently we've done Trivia nights / happy hour, hiking Stone Mtn and laser show watching, brunch etc. Programming: I have found the programming has changed over the last few months, for the better I think. They are tough, but can be scaled accordingly per each person's individual level. "Typically" we spend the first part of the workout working on a strength or skill, and the second part hyperventaliting to some timed exercise and praying to dear God that time moves quickly and or/ that we don't pass out, followed by laying in the fetal position on the floor until you can move again (Or is that just me???) CFC has also started to do Skills classes to work on tougher Olympic movements. The whole hour is focused on learning the basics and moving up into the tougher combined movements. Regardless of experience these are always very helpful. It seems like there is one every month on average. We also just kicked off an optional Fitness Challenge where over 30 ppl signed up and are sharing goals weekly to keep each other accountable. Logistics: There are classes from 6am to 7:30 pm with the busiest usually being at 5:30 pm (weekdays). There is usually 1 Sat class at 10am and 3 Sunday gym openings with 2 classes in the am and open gym in the afternoon. Check the website before coming to make sure there aren't changes - as they do observe some holidays. On average there are abt 6-8 people per class - though it varies widely. With some having ~15, and some having 2. There are a few Saturday's which have special events and we've had over 30 ppl turn out. But that isn't the norm. Feedback Steve is the owner and I have generally found him to be very open to feedback. Over the summer I personally approached him on a few points and he quickly addressed them. I think that is the beauty of this gym. You get to be a part of the community and help this be an even better place than it already is. Decisions: Ultimately - I would recommend you visit a few places to decide where is the right fit for you. We look forward to welcoming you to our gym if you decide to try it out or stop in!
