Went here today around lunch. I didn't realize this place has been here for years inside the mall!…read more I ordered a coconut tea, blended. The wonderful girl behind the counter was patient with my many questions, suggesting the popping yogurt tapioca inside that. It was super good! I'll be back here for my boba tea fix, and will update further! :)

This place opened in the mall a few months ago where the old Hot Stop used to be. This is the…read morefirst place in Lake Jackson where you can get Bubble Tea. Overall, Ice Valley Smoothies falls short in most categories. The decor is minimal, with bright colors freshly painted on the walls with nothing but a logo and a menu hanging on them. The interior doesn't really look like they finished it when they renovated. There is no television on the wall nor is there a radio or music playing. This makes for an eerily quiet setting, almost uncomfortable. A TV would go a long way. They have a lot of pretty fruit facing the mall corridor but what they use in the drinks is in plastic tubs sitting behind glass inside next to the register sort of the way Subway displays their veggies and meats behind glass. The fruit all looks pretty drab, especially toward the end of the day. I'd go around lunch for the freshest fruit. Don't let the "Smoothie" in the name of the business confuse you. Virtually every item on their menu except the fresh juices seems to be made with Bubble Tea powder and water. Whether they're calling it a smoothie or actually using the term Bubble Tea, the powders all come from the same tubs, the only difference seems to be that they dump a few chunks of fruit into the blender on the ones they call "Smoothie". They'll put protein in your "Smoothie" if requested (extra charge) but the sugar content of the bubble tea powder makes this not a very healthy option for health-conscious customers. I haven't tried the "milkshake" nor have I tried their fresh juices. A word of warning for folks heading here after a workout: they have no nutritional information available for anything that they make. With the exception of the whey protein, the powders are all dumped into tubs and aren't in the original containers, so there's no way of knowing what's in the drinks even if you wanted to go that route. Their equipment is very nice and appears to be new. They have two very nice Vita-mix blenders so their "smoothies" are well blended. They also have the automatic cup sealing machine so your drinks won't leak which is a nice touch, but the jar of whey protein sitting on top of the sealer is a bit distracting. There is a juicer present in the back that looks like a fairly nice unit and I'd imagine they could make some decent juices. The Bubble Tea is okay, but it's just the standard powder with water and Coffee Mate added. I don't think any of them have actual brewed tea in them. The tapioca pearls are very plain, not sweet, lacking any texture, as though it was sitting in the boil water for a long time. The jellies and other sinkers are standard-issue and nothing special. The best bubble tea houses add their own special touch to their drinks. These guys seem content to follow the directions on the box. That's fine, but it fails to stand out. Everything is prepared with the server's back turned. They prefer that you have a seat and look away while they prepare your drink. The guy who works there is nice enough, but I am very put off by the way he emphatically suggests I sit down immediately after ordering. After the first time I visited, I figured he would realize I like to watch, but the suggestion to sit persists after three visits. Compared to any Bubble Tea place you'd find in Houston, this place doesn't cut it at all. For Lake Jackson, it gets an extra point, but it's still not very good. To try to sell Bubble Tea in Lake Jackson, you'd really need to hit a home run and this place doesn't measure up on any level. As a smoothie place for a health conscious customer, it's not really an option for the reasons already stated. I've been there three times at this point and I'll probably not be going back.

I would go for the coffee and donuts, but not the kolaches. The normal sausage kolaches and breakfast tacos are not worth going for. I had a taco last year; it was small for the price, tasted old, and the tortilla was hard. The bread on the kolache I had recently also tasted days old and the sausage tastes like it came straight from a pack of wieners. The combo left a weird aftertaste that made me nauseous and now I have 2 large kolaches that I don't want to waste. On top of that, I'm signed up for points for awards but they're not clear or don't seem to know their own rewards system that well? I had 40 points for a free large kolache. I said it twice, showed her my phone, and gestured with my hand for one kolache. The lady grabs three kolaches and puts them in the microwave. I asked her if the rewards said it came with 3 and she said yes. She then proceeds to charge me for 3 kolaches, which is around $10. I took it anyway since I thought they were going to be good, but they weren't. I wish I were more assertive on the spot.
