This place will always have my heart. It was my everyday usual lunch spot for almost a year when I went to clover park tech. My favorite menu items were the seafood noodle and can't forget, the garlic chicken wings. Best chicken wings hands down. The price are lower than other places and still is. Yeah so this place doesn't have outside pictures because it's inside of a shopping center. Anyways, I got vegetable fried rice and I've got to say, out of everything I've tasted since studying in China 8 years ago, this is the closest I've had to what we used to eat every day from our favorite street vendor. It's way better than any fried rice you can get from any other place in the states. Something about the char from the wok, the sauce they mix in, and the consistency of the cooked egg. For sure would recommend venturing into this shopping center and finding this place. Also they don't take card so bring cash or use the atm machine. Now, I had the Sesame Chicken, and Singapore style noodles. Their Sesame Chicken is quite unique compared to other Chinese restaurants, as they use brown sugar instead of white sugar for their sauce. This slight difference gives it a great taste. As for the Singapore style noodles they were just as good. All in all, you cannot go wrong with this place. I thought to myself, "Damn, this is like Columbia Plaza growin' up, just like in the Soufend." And this is exactly what it is. My friends who brought me here said their garlic chicken is hella bomb. That's when you know you have the best of friends--they bring you to the spot to eat bomb garlic chicken. To my surprise, when I got to Tea House, I literally looked at it like "WTF?! That's it!??" Lol. Hole-in-the-wall was my first reaction. And I laughed as I looked at their small 5 restaurant mall food court options. To my surprise, Tea House was in for the kill--'cause now, I'm hoooked! I order their delicious 12 piece garlic chicken ($6.75) as I am advised. We also order the chicken chow mein. For about $14 that totals, I am satisfied with the cheap price. We walk around and seat ourselves. About 10 minutes later, we are served our delicious food. HOT, FRESH, TASTY... and I almost had an orgasm in my mouth as the scrumptious taste of garlic chicken landed on my lips, caressing my taste buds. Oh how comforting was this piece of chicken, so hot, juicy, crispy, and too damn good to be true! My friend gobbled her share of chicken without stopping. I couldn't resist either. Their chicken chow mein, at first, was different to me. The noodles tasted different... but to be quite frank, I couldn't stop eating either. Very, very flavorful, very good quality and very pleasing. My friend and I killed the lunch box full and I couldn't believe it. I don't typically eat oily food, meat, or any savory foods anymore because of lifestyle changes, but damn, I really couldn't stop eating. The fatty and glutton inside of me was happy because I was so full and so satisfied. I am giving this place a 5 star for their quick service, friendly demeanor, and addicting garlic chicken. Seriously, this place is like a chinese restaurant in a strip mall. Food is made to order so it's guaranteed hella hot and fresh. It has a rep for their garlic chicken because when I was there, there were people who kept ordering the garlic chicken. Even my boo thang, who used to live in Tacoma called and told me to order him some as he knows the famous rep they have for their chicken. My friend also said that everyone knows that when you say "B&I's," that is strongly associated with their chicken. I followed my fellow Yelpers advice and recommendations and it lead me to this place Monday night. I was dying for some Chinese food, and I did not feel like driving all the way to Longview. We got to this place and it was smelling delicious, looked clean and the man that waited on us was VERY nice. I decided to try sweet and sour pork for the first time here and it was good, but somehow they gave me sweet and sour chicken instead (the reason for 4 stars). I am a fan of white rice, and this one was tasty and prepared well. I got a 6pc garlic chicken wings to share and the husband got Cashew Chicken and they let him have fried rice for a reasonable up-charge. I will absolutely go back again. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this place doesn't even come close to living up to the ratings I'm seeing here. The food court this is in within the B&I had a bit of a smell to it and wasn't exactly the cleanest, but I was hoping the Tea House itself would wind up a diamond in the rough. Ordered the almond fried chicken and it was pretty bad. The almond gravy's strongest flavor was salt, and the meat was tough and bland. They did get a good cook on the breading which at least came out nice and crispy, but I was only able to eat a few pieces before I just gave up. **EVERYTHINGS FRESH & CHEAP** I ordered the Mandarin Chicken which was good but not quite like my favorite Mandarin chicken @ the Pal-Do World food court but for the price you cant beat it! What I really liked here was my friends ALMOND FRIED CHICKEN! TO be honest I thought this dish wouldn't be that great and cringed when he ordered it. However this was like dare I say...a better version of Katsu?? The chicken was breaded and SUPER tender and covered in yummy gravy. My friend also opted for the fried rice which seemed a little dark (heavy on the soy?) but tasty nonetheless. I ate here a long time ago and remember the General's Chicken as well as the Mongolian Beef being fresh and tasty. I still gotta try the FRIED GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS! It started out with the husband and wife running the place but now they got one of the brothers from the mother land and triple O.G. status grandpa helping out because over the years The Tea House exploded! Majority of the people in the dining area is probably waiting for their delivery of the garlic chicken wings and house friend rice but don't sleep on the sesame chicken, fried wontons, seafood noodle soup, or the Hong Kong noodles! This place is so good that I say again majority of the people eating at the B&I foodcourt are getting their meals at the Tea House. The place is so busy that it's sad to see but the couple have a thin layer of grease formed over their skin because they are smashing non-stop! They ain't got no time! It may be busy at times but the wait is worth it! Food is always hot & fresh! My usual is the beef and broccoli! This could have been the most disappointing meal experience of my life. In hindsight, I should have listened to my gut and steered clear of this place once I saw it was located in the food court of an indoor swapmeet. The neighborhood itself was unsafe and a robbery had just been wrapped when we arrived. The garlic chicken wings were not cooked completely and my pan fried dumplings were deep fried, not pan fried. When I went back to tell them about how horrible the food was they pointed to a sign that read no refunds and exchanges. Was I at a bookstore? No refunds or exchanges. The only people that would post a sign like that are people who have a product so poor and inconsistent that they themselves don't want it back. When it was all said and done, the entire meal went in the trash uneaten and $20 went to waste. Trust me, this review is safer, cleaner and more reliable than anything served here. This is legitimately in SOUTH Tacoma but for the price + taste you can't beat them for Chinese food. Portions are ridiculously HUGE so everything is a great deal. [Note: CASH only.] * Hand down: GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS: This is their definate MUST. Arguably better than the college late night chicken wings at UW. * Fried Shrimp Rice: Just alright. * Spicy Seafood Soup: It's alright. They give you shrimp + crab (shell-on) so it's a great deal but you do all the work... so you might want to save this choice for a sit-down dinner when you have the time and not a quick grab for lunch. But I personally wouldn't repeat this one. I prefer the Korean version -- jjang bong. I was sadly disappointed that they didn't have paper copies of their menu so I could call in food in advance. Read a lot of reviews on this place but was intimidated by the surrounding area. However, today, my boyfriend and I wanted a customize decal for his car so we went to B&I. After looking at the menu, my bf ordered spicy chicken and I got the Mongolian beef. Oh, and of course we just had to get the garlic chicken wings appetizer! With the raving reviews here, we were pretty much obligated to. Opening up the boxes, we were pretty surprised on how much food we got. After digging into it, we both agreed the garlic wings were really good. He liked his spicy chicken. My Mongolian beef was a little too sweet for my taste. Honestly it was like Korean bulgogi which isn't bad, just not what I was expecting. Overall, it was a good meal. We would probably eat there again. The TH makes food to order. The TH has some of the best garlic chicken wings ever. The TH has good fried rice. The fried rice is reminiscent of fried rice I've had in NY. The TH has good chow mein, and I don't really like chow mein. The TH has a bunch of other good items. The TH is affordable. I just happened to stumble across this place one day while roaming around B&I while waiting for a shopkeeper to come back from the restroom. Had time to kill. B&I certainly is not the place it was when I worked there back in the late 70's and Ron Irwin was a close friend. But Tea House instantly changed my view of some of the B&I. The day I found Tea House, I decided I was hungry and since I love Shrimp Fried Rice, I thought I'd give them a try. OMG!!! They give you so much fried rice I had to take some home with me, even on a day I was hungry! And it was obviously cooked when I ordered it, because it was super hot and almost burned my mouth! And they put more shrimp in it than most places! My only "complaint" (if you want to call it that) is that they use the larger shrimp rather than the small salad shrimp I prefer (because you get more when places use salad shrimp). I've eaten here 3 times now, and still only have fried rice because it's so darn good and you get so much that I can't think of anything else to try! But I'm certainly going to try something else next time I'm there. Most Chinese or Japanese restaurants I stop into are when I'm driving along and see one and think "hey, maybe I'll try this place". But the Tea House is one of those rare places I plan to go and will drive across the county to eat here! If you go, make sure you didn't eat breakfast or you'll get too full to finish what you order! If you want a better Panda Express this is it. I get the honey walnut prawn plate. They give a good portion. The prawns could be better but for the area and price it's pretty good! There is always a ton of ppl so I would call in your order. If you are not familiar with Lakewood this place could be really hard to find with google maps. OMG this place is amazing. The first time my boyfriend took me here, I was a little hesitant. The place is dingy, it's the B&I.. you get the point. We ordered the famous 'garlic chicken' and some salt/pepper prawns. We waited over 30 minutes!! Needless to say, I wasn't happy. We get home, I taste the food and to be honest, I just thought it was so-so. However, next thing I know, I'm wanting the garlic chicken again the next week. Seriously must be made with crack or something cause these things are addicting. My boyfriend isn't around, so I go there alone. I come home, I eat the chicken - and suddenly I'm in love. Their salt/ pepper prawns (if you like prawns with the head on still haha) are also delicious. Thinking about the food makes me want to pick some up for dinner! $14 dollars for a meal shared between 2 people. Seriously, you cannot get better than that. And the food is AMAZING. The wait isn't so great, but it's worth it. Just be sure to get there before they close, and have cash on hand! The ATM at the B&I doesn't work... But that's another story. Agreeing with earlier posts that this place is indeed in a more sketch area but not as ghetto as everyone is making it out to be. No need to bring a knife for protection. There is a roaming security guard for you worry warts, but I wouldn't count on him too much. Super old. Parts of the food court smelled like urine. No idea why. Now on to the food. Don't do the sweet and sour pork. Pork tasted cheap. He'll even the sauce didn't taste like anything much. Fiancé got the orange chicken and it looked like they even put more time into making orange chicken then they do the sweet and sour pork. And it tasted that way as well. I grew up in Lakewood and can't remember stepping into B&I throughout my whole upbringing. Apparently there used to be a ton of gang fights around this place, so I had always been slightly afraid to come here. However, one of my college buddies demanded that I try this place out, so I decided to get over my fears and give it a shot. I thank him to this day (although I'm still slightly afraid every time I walk in here. That's how good it is). As you can see from every other review, everyone comes here for the garlic chicken. Perfectly battered, crispy, and oh so garlic infused, this chicken will blow you away.
