When we decided to build a new house, we had a very complicated financing picture, and wanted to use LCU, but at that time, they weren't underwriting the kinds of loan we needed, so we used another bank to finance the land purchase. When it came time to finance the construction, I made a few inquiries at LCU, and was happy to find out that they were just entering the construction loan market. Matt Dufault was our go to guy. He was unbelievable. He helped us figure out how to make this project work and gave me so much advice that was above and beyond what was necessary to just get the loan. We have a complicated financial situation and Matt was able to help us figure out how to piece together the whole puzzle (which included way more than just the LCU part). He was very patient with my crazies and was very, very patient when he had to explain the same thing to me six times. This construction loan was one of the first for LCU from what I understand, so there was a lot of "we'll figure this all out together" kind of thinking. What that meant was that they were very flexible with us, and worked with our unique circumstances to pull everything together. Matt was always VERY responsive to emails, phone calls. In fact, he went above and beyond the call when his role ended and the loan was secured, to make sure we were getting our disbursements in a timely manner. LCU's rates are as competitive as any bank or larger lending institution. I can't recommend these guys highly enough, and in particular, Matt Dufault, AVP of Mortgage Origination. We really owe the success of this project to Matt and the folks at LCU.

But, I was considering getting a car loan and my bank had rather high interest rates.. I saw the great rates offered by DCU when I was searching for loans, so as I was passing by the Leominster office one day, I decided to go in and check them out. WOW!!! I am NOT someone that makes fast decisions, but after about an hour or so I walked out of there with FREE Checking accounts for Personal and Business, plus savings accounts for each, as well as a Pre-Approved Car loan and a New Visa Card with an interest rate 1/2 any of my other cards. What I find REALLY nice, even though there isn't a branch in my town, is that I can use the Workers Credit Union in my town to do almost anything I need. That's because they are part of a CO-OP. Direct deposit is easy. and it's in my account DAYS before it was in my previous banks account. Amazing!!! Plus I can find plenty of Instant Tellers that are free to use and I can do deposits scanning from home or through Workers ot DCU. There really isn't a need to have an actual office close to me with all these options. The one problem I did had with them, was with my car loan, and that was fixed the same day I called them about it. All taken care of Online I didn't even have to drive in. I've been with them just over a year now and have been REALLY happy with the services and customer service they provide. Now I'm the one recommending DCU to every one of my family and friends....

It almost feels like they have made this process thirty times more difficult than it needs to be (or ever was) to discourage people from doing in-person banking. Boo.
