Worst bank I have ever dealt with!
I am not a complainer at all, but I will explain this as clearly and as thoroughly as possible from beginning to end so that you know this is not some bogus complaint by some cry-baby that is trying to get back at a company that didn't bend over backwards for them. In most cases, if I have one bad experience I will give a company the benefit of the doubt, but in my world, it's two strikes and you're out. I will hold a grudge with TD bank until I'm dead and buried. So without further ado...
It was a few months ago, and I had been a satisfied chase company for 5 years, however, I had reached the limit of my free student checking account. A friend told me that not only could I get a free checking account with TD Bank, but they are open 7 days a week, and have a machine that you can exchange change for bills with no fee if you are a member of the bank. It sounded like a good deal to me so I went into this branch and decided to open an account after talking to a banker for about thirty minutes.
The banker explained to me that I could have a free checking account and a free savings account. Not only that, but they offered me a free overdraft protection service that would transfer funds from the savings account to my checking account as long as the funds were available and there would be no overdraft fee. I was also promised that I would get one free overdraft fee refund ever six months if I for some reason got charged an overdraft fee.
Within a week, I decided to try out the saving to checking overdraft protection service, and of course, it didn't work the way they said it would, and I was charged an overdraft fee anyway. No big deal, the fee was reversed. They said this would count towards the one free refund per six months I was promised even though the fee was their error. I thought it was no big deal because I'm never overdrawn anyway. About a week later I made a CASH deposit into my account because I was still receiving direct deposit to my old bank account and my balance at TD was low. Later on that night I went out and spent some money on my debit card figuring it would be fine considering I had just deposited about $200 cash and only spent about $40 dollars. The next morning I checked my account and I had been charged over $70 worth of overdraft fees. How is this possible? Apparently when you deposit CASH into the ATM at TD bank they put a 48 hour hold on YOUR money. At this point I had hear enough and I was ready to be done with these scam artists so I spend about 2 and a half hours on the phone with representatives as they were reluctant to refund the charges. When I finally was finished getting my money back I closed my account with them immediately once and for all. I guess the moral of the story is, you get what you pay for. read more
