I came in to start a business bank account. The woman who they made me work with (african american) was immediately negative, lied to me numerous times, and tried her hardest to make me leave without having a business account there. I told her that I wanted to create a separate business account, and create a deposit-only link from my personal to my business account. She immediately said that it was not possible for that to happen. And she said so, with a condescending tone. She immediately had some kind of issue with me, unprovoked. I informed her that she was incorrect, as I have had a business account before, and have done so. Plus, your website says it is still possible. She took all of the information I gave her (all of my company docs, plus two forms of ID), then said she has to talk to her manager about this.
This began a cycle of her going to and from her manager's office, at least three times, having me wait for over 30 minutes, and each time she came back, she started off by saying, "I talked to my manager, and we can't start an account with the stuff you're providing us." It was like she really wanted me to leave. Like it was set in her heart to do so. A couple of times, she had a caucasian male circle around me, just staring at me. They made me feel like I was a criminal, when I was not. I was just trying to set up an account.
Each of her reasons why she said I couldn't start an account were lies. I pointed out each and every one of them. I even had to call my lawyer for him to dispute the lies she was saying. It got to the point where she tried to ignore the stamp of filing from the secretary of state. After one final ten minute wait, she came back, saying "After further review, I guess we can open the account for you." She never apologized for the hassle. She only stated that she "Never dealt with a case like this." But, my situation was not complex in any way. I came with all of the information properly collected, in a binder, and easy to see. I believe she did so for personal reasons, as she didn't like me for my appearance. I doubt she would have treated me this way if it wasn't for my race and gender. I'm very disappointed, as in my few years dealing with TCF staff, this is the first horrible experience I've had. read more
