Pool tables are abundant, but on those busy nights, there will be a wait time for those pool tables; in the meantime, you can get an affordable drink, and bartenders are very social, as well you could kill time playing a fun round of darts from the three dart boards they have. If you are not a Darts fan, they also have a shuffleboard. Overall, it is an excellent time to chill with your friends. It is open like other bars, and you are not packed like sardines. read more

I am a Marine corps veteran and very very politely asked if the pool table next to us could stop dropping her pool stick because every time she missed a shot she purposely dropped her pool cue on the floor creating a certain sound which is triggering to certain people have been in certain combat situations.. we moved tables across the bar and they continuously flicked us off and asked her friend who worked at the bar (which mentioned above) therefore she asked her friend (short ugly black haired girl) to kick us out and did. Some time ago, one of the bartenders was off duty and drinking, when he took things too far. He ended up laying me out on the floor and choking me as a group of people witnessed. I spoke with one of the owners who was aware that the bartender had a past issue of this type of behavior and who lamented how rough he could get..."especially with women." The bartender, despite his prior history, was not fired. It has been a few years since the incident, but every time I see this venue appear on my newsfeed I shudder to think of the irresponsibility and disrespect toward women that at least one of the owners has. If he can't be trusted to protect his patrons that were openly assaulted in his venue, what else would be covered up or ignored? For the record, after discovering that he would not be fired, I filed assault charges and the man pled guilty. Not even the defendant questioned the legitimacy of my claims. The #MeToo movement was based around sexual harassment, which this is not. However, its intent was to expose the fear and exploitation that women face regularly in public places. This place will always bring me fear and sadness. Not for myself, but for all other female patrons who may have had similar issues, and for those who may need the business to take responsibility should a similar issue arise. If business practices are the same, their voices will go unheard. read more

Free pool on Sundays and Mondays is great and we make it a point to go as often as we can. Since it's the beginning of the week, it's not very rowdy (the crowd during the school year is mostly college kids but during the summers it's a pretty eclectic mix of people) and a great chance to just chill before you actually have to get serious about the work week. They have a pretty good beer selection at reasonable prices. They're one of 4 or 5 bars downtown that have Kona Big Wave on tap, and if they could get Wailua Wheat, honestly all of my dreams would come true. There is a card minimum of $10, so if you're only planning on getting one drink definitely also plan on bringing some cash. I've been here on a weekend once, it definitely wasn't as enjoyable for me (I don't really dig the whole Pedmall bar scene most of the time) but it wasn't awful either! If you're just looking for a chill night with friends, a couple of decently priced beers, and free pool (Sunday/Monday), definitely check this place out! read more

TCB Pool Hall - Pretty empty at about 11:30 on a Monday night - Pool Halls Near Me - Iowa City, Iowa

Great atmosphere, but the doorman needs to be talked to or let go (not sure what his name is, looks kinda young). He claimed to see my friend "stumble", and therefore, he wouldn't her into the bar (I should note that she hadn't had anything to drink that night whatsoever). He then proceeded to kick me out of the bar when he noticed I was CALMLY discussing the issue with another employee. He definitely was enjoying his "power trip". Spoke to some other people who claim to have had similar issues with the doorman. Up until this experience, we were "regulars" at TCB. That will no longer be the case (unless, of course, the issue is resolved). I would be happy to have a phone conversation with the manager/owner to discuss my recent experience. I'm not one to write negative reviews but this encounter was extremely insulting and unwarranted. read more

Last night while out with some friends I ordered a beer. The one I was given was expired so I asked if I could have a new one. The bar tender then took it from me and dumped it down the drain before walking away. When she came back I asked if I could have my money back for the drink. She then got another bar tender who told me to leave. read more

They have pretty decent ping pong tables (the kind that sit on top of the pool table), but I have to say that the felt on the pool tables is in rough shape. Being a college town, the quality of the games would not be enough to turn me away. The bartenders on the other hand are terrible from what I have seen. They are really bad at short pouring; the drinks are really weak; and I don't mean weak in the sense that I am a greedy booze hound that needs my drinks stiff; I mean they are freaking screwing the customers over! I bartended for 6 years and I know how much booze goes into a drink. I have watched them put an ounce of liquor into a drink that requires 2.5 to 3 ounces. If you go to this place, my recommendation is to drink beer; at least they can't screw you on that! read more

Absolutely horrible. My cousin, friend, and wife all went in there with me after the game on Saturday and asked if we could order food. Nope. OK, then, we'll get a pitcher...nope. I ordered a Grey Goose and Sugar Free Red Bull. Got the drink and thought it tasted a little funny. Turns out it was Roaring Lion instead of Red Bull. Never heard of that before, but it must be some kind of cheap knock-off. What's really bad is that their main TV is some big screen from 1985 and not even HD. Really? How expensive are LCD's these days? $500 tops? Come on. To top it all off, the waitress was so bad that she brought us the wrong tab. Just a really bad experience. read more

Great place to play some pool and./or have a drink. They don't open until 7 pm (except on football Saturdays) so we have rented the place for private parties a number of times. Definitely a bro place after 10, but get there when they open at 7 and you'll definitely get a table and some better pool-playing company. Bartenders are friendly and professional; I left my phone once and he called my boyfriend to tell us. To the reviewer who tried to order food: it's a bar, not a restaurant--they don't have a kitchen. And if you're coming here to watch TV instead of playing games, maybe you should try a sports bar. From my interactions with him, the owner is super sweet and really cares about his business. One of my favorite bars in Iowa City. It's a casual/fun environment. Great music. Reasonably priced drinks. Darts, shuffle board, and pool! Honestly this is one of my go to spots in Iowa City. It's a great place to hang out with a few friends and play some bar games or just chill. I like to be able to have a conversation with friends while drinking and listening to music and this bars sound quality allows for that to happen so it's not like sitting in a dance club where music volume is maxed. Awesome pool hall. It won't get a 5 star because their cues are cheaper cues then I have seen at most pool halls, and the felt was old and loose. Cues are the crappy Walmart ones with the plastic tips on top. Other than that though, it's a nice place. read more

Nice relaxed environment to shoot pool. I've been happy with the service and prices. The nine foot tables and ques are clearly worn down a bit but that doesn't come as a huge surprise, also when I went pool was free so I really can't complain too much. The only thing that put me off was the touch tunes jukebox machine. Even with a small crowd different people kept playing very different songs. Some of the music played was just not fit for the environment. Not a deal breaker by any means, though. I would recommend TCB to anyone that wants to shoot pool in a more relaxed environment. read more

I have been here twice for drinks. Both times I have had unexpected charges added to my bill. They require you to have a ten dollar minimum so I agree to start a tab. The most recent time I came here I ordered my three bud light bottles at 4 dollars each so that my bill should have been 12 dollars. This was not the case my tab was 16 dollars. I would not have even left a forty percent tip to begin with. Even tho I was extremely angry about this especially since it has happened twice now. I did not mention this mathematical mistake to the bartenders when I paid. If I return I will bring cash and will not tip to make up for this. It is a shame to steal from your customers as I am sure not everyone at the bar around 12 pm is able to catch this happening. read more

This is a quality pool hall, especially for a college town in the midwest. Tables are in great shape, plenty of room to move and take your shots without bumping into people or things. Great location on the Ped Mall and a really great beer selection. Although great location it is not overflowing with college KIDS trying to act like adults on their parents credit cards. read more

Great beer selection and well maintained pool tables (for my level at least). Only complaint is nothing to snack on while enjoying my beer. They don't have a kitchen and offer no food of any kind. Still love coming here when we are downtown and looking for something to do. Never had any trouble getting a table but it can get pretty busy for sure. read more

I had a very negative experience at TCB and would not recommend it to anyone. The bartenders were very rude and unhelpful with me. When he served my drink, another customer accidentally knocked it over and shattered the glass. I was soaked and cut. The bartender still wouldn't refill the drink for me without charging me again. I asked the manager if they could make an exception and he was very hostile and arrogant. I've worked in retail before and I know that situations like this suck, but that's no excuse to treat your customers like filth. I will never visit TCB again. read more
