We. love. this. place. I'd heard about Double Tap from a coworker, so we checked the place out while some friends were visiting from out-of-town. We visited on a Sunday, just after opening. There was a mix of people in Double Tap. Young kids to adults (65+). We quickly realized it was family day, which may be why we had such a chill experience. Can't speak to what the vibe is like during the week or on Friday/Saturday nights. Lemme just say, if I were a college student I'd quickly go broke patronizing this place. There were a couple of college aged guys working who were super friendly and welcomed us when we walked in. The bartender informed us of specials, etc. We ordered a pizza (surprisingly really good) and a few of us had some beers. We exchanged several $5 bills for tokens and proceeded to spend the next 3 hours here. My favorites were Skee-Ball, all the pinball machines (especially the Stranger Things themed machine), and the 4-player Pac Mac game. We also blew way too much money on the claw game (but did have one win!) I think 3 hours was probably too long to spend here, but I suppose it depends on the company you take with you, who else is there, and whether you have to wait around to play the games. Pros: good variety of games and beer, friendly staff, clean restrooms A couple of cons: one of the token machines wasn't working and several of the arcade games were down. I'm sure it's a challenge to keep all of them in operable condition and to find someone to service them. If you have a young family, plan to visit only on Sunday. Even though we don't have kids, I think I'd prefer to stick to this day of the week given we had a positive experience the first time. Recommend.

Ok, I will second the sentiment of the Yelpers before me. Double Tap Beercade *should* be more kid (and under-21) friendly. We checked it out one random weekend in the summer and realized my eight and six year olds were not able to come in. THAT BEING SAID, we did see that if we came on Sunday-- they'd be welcomed with open arms. Yep, family-friendly on Sundays only. So we brought the kiddos at noon on a Sunday and boy did they have a blast. There are around fifty games (that they apparently rotate) -- I adored watching them play TMNT, Pac Man, Buck Hunter, Stranger Things Pinball, Xmen, Skeeball and so many more. They have some interesting pizza selections: crab rangoon, jalapeño popper and spinach artichoke. With small ($6) and medium ($12) options. (You can also create your own, more typical, 'za alacarte.) Taps galore. Both behind the bar and on the ceiling. So 1) I do enjoy their beer selection and 2) their ambiance is dope. It dimly lit, lots of gamer decor and taps everywhere! Super on theme. The closest parking would be the Capitol or Dubuque ramps-- first hour for free, $1 after. Ok, as is. This review is really closer to a 3.5. But I really hope they can turn it around, seeing as it is on the newer side. - My kiddos pizza wasn't super well executed (burned). - A lot of the machines ate our money. - There were only a handful of us there but the staff wasn't super attentive. - And with that, there were deals going on that were never communicated to us. (Uh, $3 screwdriver and $4 skeeball? Yes please!) Overall, I welcome Double Tap Beercade to IC and can't wait to play guitar hero there, the next time I go! Come bring your kiddos on Sunday and keep an eye out on their social media for updates, since their website isn't super localized or friendly.

I visit this place regularly and every time is an awesome experience for me and my friends. They have a big variety of games and it is fun for everyone. Lots of beers on tap, video game inspired cocktails, and good food.

The old school arcade games are amazing, the drinks and food are good. Just a fun place to go with family, friends or both!

We were downtown on New Year's Day looking for something entertaining to do; 4 adults and 2 kids under 10. Enter Spare Me. They were open on NY Day when many other businesses weren't. We walked in around 12:30 and got a table smack dab next to the bar. Purchased some tokens and away we went for the next 4 hours. Skee Ball is always my #1, but I love all pinball machines. Suffice it to say, I was entertained. Couple that with a few Sour Cherry Ciders and I didn't want to leave. The venue was extremely clean. Tasty appetizers (they were only serving apps and pizzas while we were there) and pizza, funky holiday cocktail choices and extremely friendly staff. The guy tending bar said he had worked all day/night on NYE and the place was sold out from near open to close. You never would have known they were so busy because the place was immaculately clean. We didn't bowl, but it looked fun and all lanes were booked the whole time we were there. Lanes upstairs and downstairs. Restrooms are located outside the venue and they were pretty messy with no soap (at least the ladies). Parking is really close and free on the weekends. Spare Me offers brunch, so that piqued my interest. We definitely plan to come back. Great choice for groups big or small, date night, birthday, etc.

Huge shout out to Caitlyn (hopefully spelled that correctly) for being such an amazing trainer and teacher. There was a decent amount of people who came through in the one hour we were there and she was phenomenal at helping them all. Upon entering you're required to sign a waiver but not really show your ID and one hour is $23, which I felt was pretty steep but maybe it's due to slow business or the location versus demand. Who knows? Nonetheless, I enjoyed my time here and would be inclined to return and practice my technique or blow off some steam.

Tickets for food are purchased from a number of booths set up around downtown and are $1 each. Samples from approximately 40 restaurants in the area run between 1-4 tickets each and give all comers a great chance to sample a few or many of the offerings around town. In 2012, Molly's cupcakes, Mesa Pizza, Moonrakers, Basta and Masala were our favorite spots, but it's seriously hard to go wrong when you can walk around on a nice evening for 3 hours and go costco sample style for $20. A great event for a city that's doing a good job at expanding their culinary offerings downtown. There are several tents stationed around the downtown area where you can buy tickets and pick up a map. $1 gets you 1 ticket (sold in bundles of 5). All the participating restaurants then have tables set up outside their storefronts where they're serving sample-sized versions of items on their menu and sampling these items requires anywhere from one to three tickets. My personal favorite of everything I tried this year was Pullman - their cinnamon roll with ice cream on the side melts in the mouth but the pulled pork sandwich was incredible. Let me say that again... incredible. I also really enjoyed the samples from Formosa, Iowa Chop House, and Pop's Old-N-New BBQ. Oh my word, I can hardly wait until my next dine-in experience at any of these restaurants! I love this event since it's an opportunity to sample new dishes and new restaurants without the commitment of ordering the full dish. The Taste of Iowa City seems to be growing in popularity and in offerings, with live bands and performances, plus a giant blow-up Herky on the Ped Mall, all upping the ante and making this a fun chance to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere of Downtown Iowa City.
