It's the perfect podcast to listen to do move on after a grueling day at work. Of course, as an unpaid associated producer, I can get mentioned a few too many times when called into duty to pull funny clips or dig into the archives for things that the co-hosts tend to forget... a lot. Only gripe is when the show goes on for too long (but not too boring). I mean, the show isn't called Too Boring and Too Long. Am I seriously the first Yelper to review TBTL? TBTL (Too Beautiful To Live) is an amazing radio show on KIRO 97.3 FM. Yes, KIRO. This from a girl who used to absolutely refuse to listen to anything but KEXP or KUOW. ("Commercial radio????") But honestly, this show is wonderful. I was describing it to a some of my friends one day, and I said, "It's like you're listening to a bunch of your friends talking, but they're really smart and really funny," at which point my friends got really quiet and I felt horrible. BUT! That is truly what TBTL is like. I'm trying to figure out exactly what I love about it, and this quote from a Stranger article (which 100% convinced me to start listening) nails it: "The on-air conversations he [Luke Burbank, the host, who is accompanied by producer Jen Andrews and sound guy/Japan's #1 mixer Sean DeTore] leads tend to have a snowed-in, cabin-fever quality in the way that they meander--giddily, time-passingly--from inconsequential fascinations (how to make cake in a cup) to topical fixations (how to find designer clothes at Goodwill during a recession)... The main difficulty in verbally encapsulating TBTL, as it's known by fans, is that it doesn't have an easily defined subject matter so much as it has a sensibility: eclectic, arch, highly literate, and committed to exploring everything that comes to mind--from Beyoncé to the troubled banking system." A funny and relaxing podcast. I often fall asleep to it, which is not to disparage it. It's a nice break from the political podcasts I follow. Those are NOT conducive to sleep. Luke and Andrew have a great chemistry. Both seem like the kind of people you'd enjoy as friends. read more

This show is RAWR!!! Some of the awesome things they've done are: 1. 100 pushup challenge 2. A fricken prom (way disappointed I missed that!) 3. Thunderdome Beach Diet (spend only $3/day for all food and drink while learning to survive the end times dressed in fur) 4. Baseball outing 5. Book Clubs ("Watchmen" was their third one) 6. Night at the opera with karaoke afterparty 7. One Year anniversary Xanadu-themed Skate Party complete with cake shaped like a nacho cheese dispenser. 8. Free concert from Miniature Tigers in an Azteca Luke, Jen, and Sean are like an extension of my family. They discuss all sorts of things spanning news, internet memes, pop culture, movies, hipster music, everyday life, etc. If you get Luke's sarcastic delivery, he's quite funny and self-deprecating. Hearing their theme song (Ben Lee's "Catch My Disease") start up just warms my heart every time. I'm drawn to this show because it really fits my style of humor and the way I think about the world. They're naturally curious and love to seek out interesting associations. For example, they figured out they are Japan's #1 English speaking morning radio show (sugoi!). It's just g-d fun and quirky. Fits hipsters, geeks, and nerds of all types. This radio show is very interactive. They have a regularly updated blog for all the things they mention on the show but you just need to see to understand. The have free podcasts of all their shows back to the very beginning (I'm still on September of last year). Plus they have amazing events. TBTL, Andrew and Luke, care so much about people (listeners, "Tens," and nonlisteners), that they brought a Mitsubishi Delica van to Phoenix, Arizona in the "hot season" to raise funds and to recruit a single new listener. Has this EVER been done before by ANY radio station? I don't think so. Although the heat decimated the Delica and necessitated the adventure of a long-distance tow, the meaning of "the show must go on" was TOTALLY REPRESENTED by the miraculous team of Luke, Andrew, and Kristina ("KikiLoLo") and their friend Nora McInerny.
