Our guests loved being able to request songs and the dance floor was packed all night. A number of our guests weren't able to dance, but they stayed to watch the show instead of feeling "left out." Their personalities really make the show that much better as well as they interact with everyone and really made sure everyone had fun. Instead of continuing to rave on and on, I'll make this short. HIRE them for your wedding or event. You will so happy you did. :)

Having dueling pianos instead of a DJ/band is a great way to get all your guests involved and set your wedding apart from others. They really put on a show and had all our guests either singing or dancing along. For us, it really took the pressure out of feeling like we needed to "entertain" our guests because dueling pianos was the entertainment. Our guests have not stopped talking about our wedding reception. At one point Jeff and Rhiannon had all the men (and I mean all of them) on the dance floor serenading me (while I sat on the piano) with "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"...it was a highlight of the night. Not only do they provide the general entertainment of the night they also provide MC services and come with DJ music that can be played during your ceremony, cocktail hour, first dances, etc. Part of what makes their show so great and why our guests had so much fun singing and dancing was that they took song requests throughout the entire night. I can't end this post without also mentioning just how wonderful Jeff and Rhiannon are outside of their amazing talent. After our initial meeting my husband and I literally felt like they were our friends and we needed to get a happy hour on the books. After our wedding, we still feel the same. Rhiannon went above and beyond by offering to look over my wedding timeline to make sure everything from the ceremony to reception flowed. She was so positive and reassuring that I just knew I didn't have anything to worry about. In summary, they are awesome and you should 100% book them for your wedding and/or any other event.

The whole experience was quite awesome. Our facilitator, Tom E. was great at giving us feedback to make us sound better, individually and together. The other musicians in the group were very focused and committed to practicing between sessions and being prepared for the next session. Everyone who represented UMF was super professional and welcoming throughout the initial registration to the final performance. Not only are they getting musicians together to play music, but they're creating an authentic community that I've felt welcomed into since day one! This was exactly what I needed to get my butt out and playing with other musicians and having fun at the same time. Oh, and two words for the guy who wrote a bad review saying the sound in the rehearsal room was too loud: "ear" and "plugs."

As a singer, finding a band was always exceptionally challenging, and eventually life gave way to a husband, kids, and a day job. I found UMF on craigslist when we first moved here, and stalked their website for nearly a year. I was interested in joint a Vagaband series, but my travel schedule is hectic, and makes it difficult to commit to anything- even 3-6 weeks. Just before Christmas, a series opened up that I HAD TO JOIN, and I happened to have the 6 weeks to commit to it. You are plunked into a group of people you have never met. You all have the same goal, and a setlist already assigned. The first rehearsal everyone came prepared, and the first song kind of takes your breath away. You just formed a band (albeit short term). The chemistry in my first Vagaband series was amazing, our show was packed, and I formed real friendships beyond the performance. Instant rock and roll fantasy. I'm now in my second series, and to say this is a business would be a gross inaccuracy. This is a community. I have been welcomed into it warmly, made to feel my talent is validated, and definitely see this community as a family of musicians I couldn't be happier to be a part of. What Tom and Matt created and nurture is so much more than a music lesson.

They offer traditional classical concerts featuring composers like Mozart, Gershwin, and Mahler, but they also do a great job incorporating more modern programming. For example, they frequently show popular films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark and How to Train Your Dragon, with the symphony performing the soundtrack live. They also host a variety of Christmas-themed concerts, which are always a lot of fun. Their website is easy to use, and I usually just browse events there. You can purchase tickets online or call the box office, and it's very straightforward to select seats and complete your purchase. Benaroya Hall is easy to access, with several nearby public transit options. There's also a large parking garage available (prepaid only). I've always felt safe attending events there, even though it's located downtown. There are several quick-service food options in the outer lobby area. Once your ticket is scanned, you'll find multiple stands offering drinks and light snacks. The restrooms are consistently clean, and the lines are usually manageable. My husband and I always have a great time at the Seattle Symphony. The environment is very family-friendly, and the ushers are helpful, whether giving directions or offering to take photos. I've also found fellow concertgoers to be friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it to others.

Before the showing, there was a little lecture hall in the basement which explained the background of the show and the themes present. I think without this, I would have been a bit lost and not have enjoyed the show as much as I did. I thought the singing and acting were superb, and I loved the props and costumes. The orchestra was fantastic as well. Everything was very well done! As a note, during intermission, I noticed there was a line for the men's room and none for the women's room. It turns out that the women's room is significantly larger with more stalls to prevent a backup. It's very thoughtfully designed considering there's a limited time for intermission to use the restroom.

The group includes many of the best players in our region, and they play authentic versions of well and little known big band standards and classics from the golden era of big band jazz. One of their strengths is that they have members who obsessively listen to original recordings of music for which no charts exist and write out, note for note, what every band member was playing. This requires the highest level of ear training and is incredibly detail oriented and time consuming work. But the playoff is authenticity in their performances. The SRJO often features first rate touring musicians in their performances. They typically perform in the upstairs, more intimate theater in Benaroya Hall and at the Kirkland performance center. There's not a bad seat in either house. If you love live music, big band jazz, or if you have a child playing in jazz band at one of our local middle or high schools, you owe it to yourself to check out the SRJO. You won't be disappointed.

This was one of the best performance pieces I have seen by youth and young children (4-18 y/o) that are part of the South Seattle community. The recital was called "An African American Odyssey," and told the history of African Americans through tap and African Dance pieces. Northwest Tap Connection is under the direction of Melba Ayco, and "Is dedicated to building the whole dancer through a love of dance, personal discipline, respect for the community, respect for fellow dancers, and knowledge of the history of the art form."
