Pam's Pets & Fish

We came all the way from San Antonio to Pam's Pets & Fish today. We'd never been here, but we found…read moreout that they had new hand-fed baby cockatiels in store, that they specialized in birds, and treated their animals well. Our trip took almost 4 hours (one way). When we got there at opening, Pam's Pets had two staff working (that we could see). There is no "smell" inside the store: it's clean and very apparent that the staff takes care of the animals very well. Snakes, fish, birds and all were active. Marco, the store's Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot kindly said hello as we walked past him and told him he was handsome. We picked out our cockatiel, a pearl, and let the staff know we were ready. Reagan kindly helped us out with the remaining starter kit items: a ground perch, cuttle bone, millet, food blend, egg food, litter, and a toy. We also needed a nicer cage than the one we had, so we bought that, along with a few other items. Reagan was kind enough to explain everything to us about caring for the bird properly, explained which two cages would be good to start with, was kind and courteous to our 8 year old son, and he was gentle when catching our bird to place in the adoption box. He even helped us load the car. Pam, you've hired a conscientious, knowledgeable, courteous young man with a very bright future. Please make sure he knows that others recognize his efforts, talent, and strong character. When we got home, we set up our new bird's cage as similarly to what we saw in the store as possible, and then put him in. He'll be in his new cage, checking out his new family for a few days, before we invite him to interact outside of his cage. We spent more than 8 hours on the road today, and feel like every minute was worth it. There are no pet stores in or around San Antonio that are remotely as nice as Pam's Pets, and I'm positive their staff and customer service is head and shoulders above the rest as well. We'd absolutely do it again. Thank you, Reagan; thank you, Pam; thank you to the entire team who works so hard to make Pam's Pets a great experience - so much more than a store.

Alright, I found "the one." She's an adorable Yorkie-mix that I've nicknamed "Yorkasaurus" (don't…read moreworry, that's not going to be her actual name). Anyways, after visiting this place nearly everyday for the last three weeks, I decided to take one of their K9 cuties home. They started to notice I was frequenting the shelter and one of the agents would talk to me and ask if I'd found one to get yet. He said he's adopted his three dog-babies there, which says something good to me about them. Also, when I was signing papers, they called my apartment complex to make sure I really was allowed to have another pet. I normally would find this annoying as my apartment people are pretty gross and I prefer not to have them tell me what I can and can't do. Yet, I really appreciated that the shelter cared enough to find out where their animal was going and to make sure it never has to find its way back to them. Another thing that happened on my most recent visit was heartwarming. A man in a cowboy had came in furious. I let him go ahead of me since I noticed adoptions take them quite a while to do (I waited nearly 30 minutes in line last week behind a lady adopting two dogs). He said that he'd received a letter that his Chihuahua-Pug dog was picked up. He'd apparently given the dog to a neighbor & that person was neglectful. The dog had been at the shelter for a month. He told them he'd pay whatever charges there were; he just wanted his baby back home. They verified all the information he gave them and waived all the fees for him since this was a first time offense and he lived outside of city limits. Then, they brought out the dog (one I'd walked by several times in my visits) and the reunion was awesome. The man went from irate to overly joyful and apologizing to the dog and then he was on his way. Anyways, this place totally earned that fifth star. :)

I went to see a dog and was told it would be Friday before it could be seen. Friday is here and I…read morewent to get that dog and he was killed murdered by staff never given a chance. they don't care
