I'm a regular at Pam's Pets, we go a lot for supplies and maintenance items and feeder insects almost weekly. Recently they got two baby whites tree frogs and i've been looking at them the past couple times i've gone in (i already have two very healthy adult whites tree frogs) Today however, I went in for crickets and went to check on them and one was clearly dead. I tried my best not to say anything in store as other people were there and i was very uncomfortable and called after I left, wondering if it was maybe sick. I know they've just had a lot of new staff roll in but i was disturbed. The manager (who i will not name but i'm sure if you know you know ) tried telling me they didn't even have tree frogs and they wouldn't house two together if they even did, to which i said "I was just there and have been seeing them the past couple of weeks at the front" and he goes "well yeah okay we have two they're fine, what's wrong with em ?" and when i begin to explain he gets an attitude and goes "Lady i'm not the owner" and was just so rude. I have seen this man be so ugly to customers throughout the past year i've been going almost weekly. It's never been directed at me so i've tried not to say anything to or about this man but after what i experienced today i will NOT be going back. I knew what i saw and I tried finding reviews and went to Yelp where finally I found people with similar stories about the place. I was aware they were rude but wasn't aware they were so neglectful to the animals in store. I'm disgusted. I almost took photos of the dead baby frog but i really didn't want it on my phone. I was hoping to be wrong but at this point after all i've seen (them not properly cleaning cages after getting new inventory and just putting animals in there, clearly not knowing what they've got and what is healthy vs unhealthy) I think they should be held accountable. While I know they have some great staff that actually care and know about animals, but clearly some really, REALLY, are damaging to the animals and their customer base. read more

I like pams for the most part a large selection of pet foods the only complaint I have is they advertise military discounts and this is kinda true I guess but it is only a very small amount of ther items not dog or cat food or high end items kinda misleading if you ask me read more

What a fantastic business! Went in to buy an aquarium accessory and bought some dog treats for my dad's dog who is soooo picky she only eats chicken. The person working (don't know if it was an owner or manager or who) asked about her diet. I told him and he gave us some free dog food samples. And she is actually eating them! It may not be her first choice, but she is eating it and we will be back to buy some more. And even though she ate the treats and a little bit of the food, the real star of the show is the amazing customer service. This business can't be beat! Shop local, shop small, win big! This is my third time coming here. First one was great, second time was ok but this time was horrible. I like the budgies they carry but I had questions about the cockatiels. In asking questions the lady treated me like I was stupid for having budgies and waiting a cockatiel. I stood there watching the budgies for awhile. Really want but looked like it had some drainage from it nose. I asked an other employee for help. Lots of eye rolls and after looking closer at the bird saw a runny nose. The employee told me he would not pick up an other bird if I wasn't buying. I told him I look at all my animals before buying cuz it the responsible thing to do. Lots more eye rolls I won't be back. As a customer I should be allowed to ask questions and do basic health checks without almost being refused service read more

I went here a few years ago when I first got my aquarium, they were very rude and said they could only give us a few danios since the aquarium had not been cycled for over two weeks. We went back a couple other times, nothing really stood out. I went a few days ago to get a few fish and had no trouble at all getting a few fish. Unfortunately one was dead by the next morning. I went to return it and brought everything I needed. The man helping me was extremely rude and told me they didn't even have the type of fish i was returning despite buying it only a couple days before. He tested my water and essentially said it was too clean and that he would "let it slide this time". As I was picking out a fish to replace it, I had noticed the tank I had gotten a few of my fish from on my previous visit had several fish with ich. When I got home, I realized the fish I had gotten from that tank had also been infected with ich. I called to let them know and I believe the same man on the phone was the very one who was "helping" me in the store. I informed him that there was a tank at their shop that was infected with ich and that several of my fish from that very tank had it too. He told me that ich happens all the time and its just because the fish are stressed. He told me that they would close down any tanks infected with ich and that two were already closed down for it (there were zero indications that any tanks were closed down at all) and he told me he had already checked on them and they were fine this morning. read more

We came all the way from San Antonio to Pam's Pets & Fish today. We'd never been here, but we found out that they had new hand-fed baby cockatiels in store, that they specialized in birds, and treated their animals well. Our trip took almost 4 hours (one way). When we got there at opening, Pam's Pets had two staff working (that we could see). There is no "smell" inside the store: it's clean and very apparent that the staff takes care of the animals very well. Snakes, fish, birds and all were active. Marco, the store's Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot kindly said hello as we walked past him and told him he was handsome. We picked out our cockatiel, a pearl, and let the staff know we were ready. Reagan kindly helped us out with the remaining starter kit items: a ground perch, cuttle bone, millet, food blend, egg food, litter, and a toy. We also needed a nicer cage than the one we had, so we bought that, along with a few other items. Reagan was kind enough to explain everything to us about caring for the bird properly, explained which two cages would be good to start with, was kind and courteous to our 8 year old son, and he was gentle when catching our bird to place in the adoption box. He even helped us load the car. Pam, you've hired a conscientious, knowledgeable, courteous young man with a very bright future. Please make sure he knows that others recognize his efforts, talent, and strong character. When we got home, we set up our new bird's cage as similarly to what we saw in the store as possible, and then put him in. He'll be in his new cage, checking out his new family for a few days, before we invite him to interact outside of his cage. We spent more than 8 hours on the road today, and feel like every minute was worth it. There are no pet stores in or around San Antonio that are remotely as nice as Pam's Pets, and I'm positive their staff and customer service is head and shoulders above the rest as well. We'd absolutely do it again. Thank you, Reagan; thank you, Pam; thank you to the entire team who works so hard to make Pam's Pets a great experience - so much more than a store. read more

Drove all the way from San Angelo just to see their selection. And honestly for a small city (compared to San Antonio or whatever) they do have a decent selection. A variety of animals and products I don't normally see in Petco. Prices are a bit high but something you expect from a local shop. One thing that did bother me was that the employees (especially one of the front female staff) are rude! I thought for a small town shop they'd show some hospitality. No. The female I spoke to was rude and when I asked for help she directed me to another employee. On the OTHER HAND; the worker that did help me - Elizabeth - super big helper! I have visited Pam's many times throughout the years I've lived in Abilene; the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I have many fish as well as a leopard gecko, staff here have been extremely helpful in making sure I am able to take care of my pets as best as possible! Do not go here. They have 3 ball pythons in one cage on reptile carpet. Not enough hides. They're infested with mites. One has stuck shed all over it with stuck eye caps too. An algae eater bought along with a goldfish. Added them to the tank, after sitting a bag with them in it to equal the temperature of the tank. The goldfish survived and we have fish in this established aquarium. The algae eater was already acting weird and he was dead the next morning. We have never had an issue with them but they refuse to fix this issue. If your going to sell sick pets at least step up to the plate and replace those that die. We did exactly what we always do, We have goldfish, betas, other algae eaters and never had an issue. They refused to do anything and was very rude on the phone. read more

THIS PLACE IS THE BEST! MARCO IS AWESOME! This is the best pet store I have been to. The employees are very kind and knowledgeable. I have many pets and they have what I need for each one. The owners are nice. They have a Yellow Nape Amazon parrot, Marco, in the center of the store (who is the store mascot) who will talk to you and give you a amazing experience. The prices are great. 4 weeks ago I bought some fish including a pleco and 9 gallon tank they said they took the heater out of this tanks box and they told me I would have to buy one while I had the tank up front waiting and I was looking at fish the owner thru the heater on top on my things I had ready without my permission I told them I wanted 2 neon sharks and 3 Molly's and a pleco the pleco had small white spots all over it and I never seen that on them before we'll long story short I bought everything trying not to be rude I got everything set up put the fish in 3 days later everything died in the tank called the store they said they can't do anything, 4 weeks after I went back I bought 2 more plecos and I got in my car looked over the fish and again the white spot I looked it up they had ick!!! We love it at Pam's! We go in for dog, cat and fish supplies. Their staff know us by name now and greet us each time. They help bring our stuff to our car, and if I have any questions their a staff is knowledgeable. I've brought in water to test, experimented with different cleaner fish for my tanks and they even know the perfect pet for my time available spent with them. read more

We went to Pam's looking for a ball python and were pleasantly surprised. Pam's had a great selection of snakes with variable prices and colors. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for an exotic pet. Also, the employees are very helpful. We gave them several tries but finally just had to stop going. The first try we bought a guinea pig that we ended up taking back to them because it was so agressive that it could not be held. The second time we got some goldfish. The water that came with it in the little bag ended up infesting our tank with millions of snails. the third time (I know, we should get kicked in the head for even going back a third time!) We got two sucker fish for our tank. They cost like three bucks a piece so no biggie, but when one died the next day we took it back with our "guarantee." They wanted a sample of our tank water, a note from god, and a few other things before they would give us the three bucks back. I just left its little carcass on the counter and walked out. We bought a little hamster there two years ago and he's still going strong and has been nothing but friendly. After going into PetSmart several times and having to wait almost 10 minutes each time just to get someone's attention, I decided to just go to Pam's. The staff knows very little about most of their animals.. That would be OK I guess if they did not try to act like they knew a lot and gave out wrong info on how to care for them. Today is Aug 7, 2016 and I had just came from Pams pets. I had bought some cookies for my dogs and when I cracked them open, I had found worms in them. I called them back as soon as I saw it to inform them. The guy who was assisting me was very unprofessional and kept cutting me off while I was talking. I then inquired about how long the cookies have been sitting there, his reply, "a month". He stated that the worms won't harm my pets but All I'm concerned about is the principle of the matter that they have a "FRESH baked cookies" sign however, their fresh baked cookies have worms. My family and i go to pam's every week we bought a ball python from there and he was already around 3 ft long he's such a well mannered snake have no complaints on him so far.! we buy him a mouse every week never have any delays or hesitations from the store employees, they get me what i need as quickly as i need it and always exactly what we want. we now have two snakes a water dragon 2 seperate fish tanks set up with no fish dying yet and they were brand new aquariums about 6months ago we are still stuckwith the tiny fish that our kiddo's picked out. they were never upset with me when i brought in my 65lb blue nose pit they were so nice and complimented on how sweet and well behave she was ...same goes for my male blue pitt. petsmart i wait around for ever just to leave disappointed or empty handed PAMS ALL THE WAY!!! read more

I didn't want to write this review but I will no longer do business with Pams. I hate to say that because I've loved coming here for the past few years and I'm not the kind of person that likes writing negative reviews about local businesses. About a year ago I purchased a 120 gallon fish tank from pams. I spent probably over 800.00 that day on it. I chose to purchase it from them because I wanted to support them over pet smart since they were local. I always purchased my fish, fish food, filters, etc here at Pams. They've always had friendly service which I loved. Today I come home and my tanks water leaked out and my fish barely had water. I took them out and contacted Pams about it since I purchased the tank from them and all they said was "sorry there's nothing we can do". I didn't want my money back, or for them to give me a new tank (that would've been absurd) all I wanted was for you guys to do something, ANYTHING. Even give me advice on how to fix my tank and it basically felt like you guys didn't care at all. Your manager told me there should have been a paper for the warranty on the tank when I bought it, and I remember clearly that there was not one there. Like I said I hate to write this but I have to because no one there seemed to care about the issue. I've spent tons of money at this store in the past three years. The point is that I had a problem and you guys didn't even care to help out or show any compassion. It felt like you didn't even want to take my fish in either. if you by a bird here, you need to take it straight to the vet and have it checked, xray, so it shows their liver.. if the liver is swollen, take the bird back to pams.. while in town visiting family, they took me to your pet shop. while there, i saw you feeding an amazon parrot part of your grilled cheese sandwhich.. and talking to someone in your store, they said you do that ALL the time.. ANY vet will tell you that is KILLING that bird. their liver is so small and can not process all that fat thats in cheese, bread and the butter you fry the sandwhich in.. i am a breeder and KNOW for a fact, YOU are killing this bird with kindness.. read more

The staff at Pam's all seem to care about the animals they sell and they encourage responsible pet ownership. When I was looking for a used aquarium, they not only had one, but almost gave it to me! It was dirty, but for $15 for a 30-gallon aquarium that they loaded in my car, it was worth cleaning it. They answered every question I had about accessories I wanted, and promptly ordered what they didn't have in stock. I haven't been in there for a while, but I would go back. The ONLY disappointment I had is that I needed a tandem lead for my two dogs and the one at Pam's was way overpriced [or so my sneaky mind thought]. I had seen one about $5 cheaper so I bought it only to have my dogs break it. I ended up back at Pam's for the lead that I still have and still use, and it still looks new after about 4 years. I went in on a Sunday, at about three thirty, we went to the back right away by the fish, and I went up to the front desk to ask for help which I did politely and she glared and said someone's back there, and I said oh I'm sorry I was just back there and didn't see anyone, she said oh well someone is, she said it with extreme sass, so than I walked back there, and no one was there, we waited for someone to come back and than about ten minutes latter finally someone was there to help, we got three fish, the fishes with neon colors, and we went & checked out, and the lady was extremely rude the whole time, it was the same lady, she was rude, not friendly, didn't look happy, and defiantly didn't want to be helping us. I went home, the fish tank was already all cleaned with the correct water & everything before I got the fish, I put the fish in the fish tank, using the recommended way of putting the bag they were in, in the fish tank for a half an hour before letting them just in the fish tank water. I went to century to watch a movie, with my friend, came back and all three fish were upside down dead. They were in the fish tank less than five hours. I called the next day, asked if I could just get new fish, I spent thirty dollars on them. They said you have to have the receipt, the fish, and a sample of the water. But I already had disposed of the fish,I called and tried to explain the situation and they basically said that sucks, your not getting any new fish back. read more
