I love this vet!! I have had more pet problems in the last 6 months than I've ever had, like one thing after another which has been nerve wracking and scary, but the Frontier staff have all been compassionate, knowledgeable, and very communicative. I used to work in the vet med industry so it's REALLY difficult turning my pets over to strangers when I used to have such a heavy hand in their vet care, but the Frontier staff quickly became a solid part of my support system and I am so grateful to have found them. They are affordable and practice good medicine, and I trust them to care for my dogs and cat! Very thankful for all of them. read more

Frontier Veterinary Clinic - My dogs and cat! - Veterinarians Near Me - Abilene, Texas

Dr. Andrew Houser was kind, listened with interest, was genuinely caring, and used his expertise to understand address my cat's issues.

We took our cat (8 years old) to Dr. Houser for what we thought was an upper respiratory infection, was sent home with some meds thinking everything was going to be okay. Brought her back in 3 days later because she had looked like she lost weight and wasn't getting better only for her to be diagnosed with kidney disease, stage 2. We expressed our concerns about her weight loss and her not having an appetite. We were only given "bandaid" solutions because "there's no cure." Not even three weeks later, she was rapidly declining to the point of having to take her into the emergency vet and hit with "she's in stage 4." NOT EVEN A MONTH AFTER HER DIAGNOSIS. We took her back to frontier after picking her up Monday morning and the vet tech (she seemed new) just took her from me, holding her like a doll, and said "okay we'll call you," (????) this wasn't a drop off and was confused as to where she was taking our cat?! We were FINALLY given all the meds she should've been given from the beginning as well as fluids. The needle they gave us for the fluids was a giant needle. The vet tech told us to change the needle when "it got a little tough to poke her with" I'm sorry, WHAT???? Finally took her to a second opinion the same day only to find out that there IS medicine for cats with anemia and the dr said we could've done so much more for her had we taken her in after she was first diagnosed. Barely a month after her diagnosis and she's gone. There was so much more we could've done but the vets at frontier took our money and slapped a bandaid and a "she's going to die anyway" attitude by Dr. Tanzi (I think?) and dismissed us. Literally spoke to us like we were crazy pet owners when we knew in our gut something more was wrong. I used to trust this clinic with all of my animals but after the negligence with our cat, I just can't justify taking my animals here anymore. read more

The overall customer/client experience should change, the mindset of the Dr. should change as he is the Veterinarian. I would think in his position and 8 yrs. of college to complete at a professional level that you commit to an oath to save each animal, if possible, and be passionate about doing whatever it takes to save the life of a fur baby NO MATTER IF ITS AN OLD DOG!! Insensitive to tell me as my doggies Mom, I was sent home with pain pills and told old dog issues. No follow up, no aftercare... no bloodwork done and no X-rays when clearly a cancer mass that's hard in the side of doggies ribs is hard. Folks, I took my dog for a second opinion to best in town and my experience per less the prices paid at Frontier for, little information, no tests, receptionist not personable and ALWAYS on phone talking about a guy online, never greeted my husband for minutes, then I stepped out of room to tell my husband which room I was in, and a second visit finally bloodwork and X-ray only to again be told not cancer. So $900 later in two visits manually initiated in my own ... not follow up no phone calls to check in ...nothing!!! Do you know at second opinion place I got better care, personable, doctor stayed with me for an hour to learn about ny dog, blood work, X-rays...everything for 25% of the cost I was told by her that my dog did have cancer. The pain meds Frontier gave were shutting my doggies pancreas down. All this took a month!!!! Do you know that the lady vet at the other clinic here in Abilene, behind Sam's said "if we found a month ago... I could have possibly had it removed for 2 more yrs of life possibly." I told her " a month ago she was at Frontier and told she was an old dog with old dog symptoms. We both shook our heads in disbelief. She passed from cancer today. There is a new set of Frontier Vets.. not a great place if you want complete care. Try other places, just not here. They also buy negative reviews to keep Google rating high. I leave this for your decision. read more

I took one of my dogs to Dr. Bloodgood from the time she was 8 weeks old to the time she was 3. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Bloodgood. He is one of the best vets I have ever seen. The techs and staff are great. However I caution you to see any other vet here. I took my other dog to be neutered here shortly after adopting him. My dog developed extreme pain and fluid in his abdomen that burst one morning post surgery. He also had signs of a UTI. When I went to ask the female vet that did his surgery what happened, she would not see me. Instead the owner vet came in. When I proceeded to ask what was wrong with my dog, he began to describe unrelated and insulting misinformation, claiming that what was wrong with my dog was that he had hydrocephalus. No vet before or after has ever made this claim. He never discussed the issues at hand with my dog. That left a lasting taste in my mouth, as this occurred in 2019. But I would be concerned to take your loved one to a vet owned by this individual, because I am unsure if your pet's health is his first priority. If you can see Dr. Bloodgood, perfect. But if he is unavailable, I would rather travel across the country than trust the other vets at this practice. read more

I was so pleased to find this place! I just moved to Abilene a month ago and was concerned about finding a good veterinarian for my cat. Frontier Veterinary Clinic was everything that I was looking for. The inside is clean, bright and taken care of. The prices were very reasonable for quality service. The veterinarian took his time to answer my questions and was very helpful! The next day, I received a follow-up call from a friendly and knowledgeable staff person. I absolutely will be bringing my pets here from now on. read more

We love Dr Houser. I can't imagine taking our pups to anyone else. We have a very nervous puppy and he sat on the floor with him until our pup was comfortable. The whole team at frontier is awesome! read more

Dr. Bloodgood is an amazing and compassionate person. I'm new to the area and was in search of a good vet for my dog. I went to a different place initially which i didn't end up liking so decided to try this place out instead. And i am so glad i did. Dr. Bloodgood made me feel heard with my concerns and was very gentle with my dog who is very old and nervous. I am also very happy that it is not a curbside type of place. Those are so silly. I was able to actually go into the room while he was being examined. That was another important thing for me. I am so thankful to have found this place and doctor. I will definitely be coming back and recommend this place to anybody with pets! read more

My sweet Zeus had been decompensating over the past few months. Dr. Bloodgood is a thorough and compassionate veterinarian who clearly loves animals. He provided excellent care and tried everything reasonable to continue to help Zeus live a good life. After dealing with seizures and a marked personality change, it became evident that it was time to let Zeus go to doggy heaven. Dr. Bloodgood and his lovely staff were kind and sensitive as they helped Zeus let go. I will be forever grateful. My other schnauzer, Hades, is undoubtedly a lucky dog because he will clearly get the best veterinarian care possible and believe it or not, they are very reasonable with pricing. If you're like me and pets are family, you really should go to Frontier. read more

Frontier Veterinary Clinic - RIP Zeus Thank you for all the laughs! - Veterinarians Near Me - Abilene, Texas

They gave wrong estimate for services. Sadly this is the second issue I've had with them. Won't be coming back.

Wonderful doctors and staff. My two pups are well taking care of here and their pet resort is outstanding.

We love Dr. Houser! He is the BEST! All of the staff is amazing at Frontier! My dogs feel at ease and know they are loved! Thank you, Frontier!!! read more

I can't say enough nice things about Frontier, we are visiting family out of state and my doodle became ill they got us in within two hours of calling. They were thorough, caring, gave me options on what we could do, different levels of care and what we could try before shelling out a ton of money. The vet was fantastic, listened and gave me a lot of information and answered probably my very simple questions without making me feel like I was being overly cautious. Highly recommend! read more

This vet practice is really patient and kind to my dog and family. They really took the time to speak with us and answer all of our questions. The service they provide is really appreciative. read more

Now known as Frontier Veterinary Clinic. They have 5 star reviews on Google but I wanted to give them credit here on yelp too! We have a border collie that is extremely skittish with nail trimmings. Jessica and Sam walked us through the entire process and they spent extra time to make my wife, our dog, and I comfortable. Our dog put up a fight but both Jessica and Sam were professional and able to cut all four paws without ever touching the quick! Overall this was a great experience and we scheduled our next nail trimming with them. We were also able to tour the kennel and after seeing them care for our pup we will definitely be keeping this clinic in mind for boarding our pup too! read more

Overall experience was very good. On a Saturday I called to have my puppy neutered and got an appointment scheduled for that Monday. The doctor called me to ask me a few questions after I had dropped my puppy off. He was very friendly and took the time to fully explain things to me. He also told me that my golden retriever is the best looking he's ever seen. No big deal. The staff was nice also. The facility feels clean. I'm glad this is my vet office. read more

I have always spoiled my pets greatly and that includes their health care. I was worried I would have to travel to Dallas to find a great veterinarian. That's why I was excited to find Frontier here in town. I brought my young puppy in for her first time and the staff was excellent and professional and answered all my questions and even answered questions I didn't know I had yet. I highly recommend Frontier to anybody who really cares for their pets. read more

I highly recommend this place. We were given some bad news about our dog recently and had to put her down. The staff at Frontier were extremely caring and walked us through the process. It was a horrible experience, but the vet didn't milk us out on hope or endless meds that prolong bad situations. Lots of respect for the crew at Frontier. They have my business the rest of my time in Abilene. If you want honest service and factual information go to Frontier! read more

I was on my way to Lubbock when I had to make an unexpected visit to the vet.The staff at Frontier fit her in and had me back on the road as quick as they could, they were also very friendly and helpful, they even cleaned up my dog before giving her back. I definitely recommend them!! read more

By far the best vet clinic we have taken our babies to. Dr Howser has always been real helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to the best experience possible for our pets. They have a sincere love for pets lives and we'll being. We have taken our pets for multiple reasons from regular to serious and the care was never lacking. We recently saw the other Dr for the first time on this last visit and his diagnosis and knowledge base were excellent. I can't credit this business enough but will definately continue to take our babies here in the future for the best care possible. Thank you so much for you awesome staff and work. read more

I can't being to say how disappointed I was with this vet. We took our dog in last week because she was drooling, lethargic and swelling and they told me she "probably" had an infection. They never did blood work, threw medication at us and took a crummy xray that didn't even show every angle of her stomach (which was hard). Two days later I brought her back because she was swelling in new areas they tried to say she was stung by a hornet...in 20° weather. When I tried to explain that even getting her outside was a chore because she was so lethargic they brushed me off, told me if was the only reasoning for her swelling, and threw more medicine at me. They still didn't take labs, they only treated me and my dog like we were inconveniencing them. Two days later we brought her to a different vet because she was still swelling worse and in different areas. They were shocked by the quality of xrays and lack of labs. After taking a biopsy we have found that our girl has large cell lymphoma. I waisted almost $400 at this vet and all they did was line their pockets while making us feel like garbage. Don't go here if you value your fur babies because they don't listen and only throw medicine (EXPENSIVE meds they keep in house without offering to call them in to a pharmacy) your way. It's disgraceful. read more

Dr Bloodgood took care of my 18 year old cat who became ill and she lived 2 years longer. He is a caring Vet who does all he can for an animal. The staff are all friendly & helpfl. I highly recommend Frontier Vet. read more

Let me start by saying, I absolutely LOVE this place! I wouldn't take our little addition to the family anywhere else. I'm a 1st time pet owner, and I found this place online while searching for a vet. I was quickly persuaded to visit by its outstanding ratings. I'm a picky one to please when it comes to my loved ones, but I returned for the 2nd time today b/c the 1st visit was so pleasurable. I never leave with a question unanswered, and I never feel like I'm asking too many questions (although I've been known to do so). Rambo, our puppy son, is in the BEST hands with Dr. Andrew Houser, DVM and his delightful staff. I'm pretty sure they are all animal whisperers, lol. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with smiles/ kind words, and Rambo gets lots of hugs/ love too. Rambo especially loves the free puppy treats! The providers and staff all have a plethora of knowledge concerning all things animal, and offer the best advice/ explanations when you're like me and don't know the right questions to be asking. Here, you're babies will be treated like family. I've heard the pricing elsewhere is about the same price, but I haven't been elsewhere to truly know. They do offer military discount. All I know is, I'm satisfied right where I'm at. You would be too. So, do your pets a favor and come for a visit...you won't be disappointed. read more
