Awful place. Took my dog in as a first-time patient to get him updated on his shots and also to have a skin irritation looked at on his neck. The vet took no time to introduce herself to us (me and my wife) or my dog, and was very abrasive with me and my wife from the very beginning. During the exam, the vet had her tech hold my dog against their cabinet while he was standing on the floor. He was clearly stressed because of this, and when the vet began touching, pushing, etc. on my dog's neck, my dog nipped at the tech. We saw no signs of skin breakage, scratching, or otherwise on the tech's face, but I asked her if she was okay anyway. She said yes. My wife (who was still present) and I are not even sure my dog made contact with the tech when he nipped. He didn't growl or show any signs of aggression, and the vet herself even confirmed this in a somewhat heated argument that ensued after she blew the situation out of proportion. In addition, she demanded (yes, quite rudely demanded) that we neuter our dog. I refused, so not only did she threaten to report the incident to the city, but she said if it happened a second time, my dog could be put down. Um...for a nip? She ordered my dog into a 10-day at-home quarantine (which we later found out from animal control she did not have the authority to do), and she refused to update him on his shots. Animal control also reported to us that the vet made incorrect statements about the law and how it applies to dog bites. Furthermore, after the nip incident occurred, the tech exited the room and the vet had the nerve to tell us her tech was bleeding from the face and that she was on her way to seek medical attention at the hospital. In case anyone is wondering, any medical treatment administered to a dog-bite victim must be reported to animal control immediately, by law. Two days went by and I hadn't heard anything. I called animal control myself to ask about records pertaining to the incident. They had no record or report of any bite victim from my dog. We were lied to by the vet about the severity of the incident--seemingly to guilt us into neutering our dog, who has had ZERO incidents with any other human or vet in his 5+ years of existence. Animal control called her to tell her she overstepped by telling us the things she was telling us. It was at that point the vet reported the nip incident. Interesting. PLEASE use caution at this location! Needless to say, we are not going back. read more

Dr. Price and her team were the very first ones to introduce me to Feliway spray to calm and comfort my cats. Since my Siamese mix, Asia's an aggressive cat, I rest assured and trust that Dr. Price and her staff will handle her with care as they keep her in the plexiglass chamber. The very first time I took Annie, my domestic longhair, Dr. Price -- who relates well from her extensive background in domestics and exotics -- knew right away how to treat her allergies. When Asia had a suspicious tumor, Dr. Price did a needle aspiration and even called me during the weekend with the pathology results to ease my uncertainty, which goes to show the high extent that she will go for her clients. read more

Customer service is ....well, there is none. My dogs and I set out In the 19 degree weather waiting for them to open. 5 minutes after the time to open, I looked in and observed two employees sitting and chatting. I knocked on the door. A couple minutes later one comes to the door, steps out and closes the door behind her not allowing me to enter. She rudely (and I mean rudely) tells me they are curbside and walks off. Hmmm that would've been nice to know as the last two times I was there I walked into the lobby. I try to talk to the lady, but she could not give me the courtesy to stop and answer my question (I was wanting to know what I should do). My husband later calls to inquire about the situation. They tell him both reminders indicated they were curbside and when they called they told me. Wrong, I was never told and as you will see in the pictures below, they did not indicate the situation either. I would not recommend. I have over spent on procedures etc and this showed me that even high prices won't get you customer service. Take your animal somewhere else where prices are not jacked 100% and customer service is important. read more

We are from San Angelo and needed someone who would sedate to get our pet shaved and they said they would but they decided to go against our request and did it without sedation. They stressed our dog so much that they didn't complete the shave and left him looking awful! He was so stressed that when we offered him food and water he had no desire for either one and he was shaking and scared that we had to calm him down by holding him and talking to him. We will never go back there again and will never recommend them to anyone! read more

Called this clinic first thing this morning and let them know that my daughter's dog got attacked by another dog and he was bleeding and needed help. They told me they would have to check their schedule cause they only had one vet today! I couldn't believe my hears so they are more concerned about giving vaccinations and grooming than saving a dogs's life! Just an FYI it only take one vet to save a life! read more

I recently took my cat for a visit because he wasn't eating and was acting strange. The doctor couldn't tell us exactly what was wrong and gave me two options of what could possibly be the ailment. Both options were nearly $600 with neither being a for sure solution. I followed the advice and chose a plan that consisted of two medications and a couple cans of food which totaled $585. My cat did not get better with the treatment and died a week later. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I feel like I was ripped off. Nobody should ever have to pay that much for an unsure prognosis. Do not go here unless you feel like paying an arm and a leg only to lose your pet a week later. I had a friend with a smiling issue with their puppy and took her to another animal hospital in town that did not change them for the care since their puppy did not survive the surgery/diagnosis. My cat has epilepsy, and was diagnosed and prescribed phenobarbital before we moved to Abilene. When we needed a pheno lab FAST to make sure that he would be okay thru the night, Windmill was the only place open in town that would offer the lab service. They gave me results ASAP and took the greatest care of my cat. Dr. Cutzer listened to me! He trusted me as the owner and we worked out a treatment plan together. This may sound silly, but my cat liked him too. The other vet we had been going to in Abilene scared him, but not Windmill. All the techs love my sweet bb, and remember him every time we have to come in. Not only so, but it is invaluable to me how Doc will personally pick up the phone and call me back with results. It's a pet peeve of mine when I have to play back & forth with a clerk and a vet because they refuse to pick up the phone themselves, but I've never had that problem here. Dr. Cutzer is personable, kind, and brilliant. So thankful to have Windmill in Abilene!!!! read more

I should have read the reviews before taking my cat to Windmill, as mine is almost exactly the same as one here. I took my 4 year old cat, who was sick, losing weight, lathargic, and constantly throwing up to get looked at. After over $500 in tests, they couldn't tell me anything I didn't already know, and sent me home with 2 medications....steroids and antibiotics. Both of which were liquids, and they knew he wouldn't be able to keep them down with how much he was vomiting. 24 hours later, my cat died. Find some place else. Windmill is obviously clueless, people are realizing this, and finding other places to go. It's most likely why they have so many rediculous ads on TV. read more

Came home from work and noticed my dog had injured his leg. Called my normal vet and they and every other vet was booked before the holiday weekend. Drove down the street to Windmill and asked if they were able to examine him. They put us in an exam room right away! The staff was very caring and understanding. Great customer service and care! Our dog was hit by car and had minor injuries. It was helpful that they were the only vet that could see her(dog) within 1hr of calling. They were helpful in inspecting her internally. I requested only 1 X-ray, instead of 2 or more, saving $100. Thankful we spent on $250. She is 100% ok and back to her normal self. They are helpful and knowledgeable. Windmill has been so good to us! Everything has been so hectic with Covid, but I am very thankful for them!!!! They are still offering curbside, but also giving me the option to come in with my Claire and be in the room with her. She has some anxiety whenever we go anywhere, but when I bring her here the staff is so friendly and go out of their way to make sure she has a positive experience. Dr. Price killed my dog. He went in for a simple surgery on his ears and she overmedicated him with anesthesia. When she called to tell me that he didn't make it, she sounded like she felt guilty. She kept talking over me and I had no time to process what she was even saying. Not only do I feel like she was not honest with me about what happened to him. I spoke to our regular vet and he expressed that 90% of the time in that situation it is because of human error and overmedication with the anesthesia. She offered no compensation for it and immediately wanted to cremate him. I had such a hard time processing it all I had no idea what to do. Our family was devastated and my son still cries for him. I would not recommend this vet to anyone. It was the worst experience we have ever had! read more

This vet was my go to when living here two years ago and I have recently moved back to the area so decided to use them again. I went in today just have my dogs yearly shots and was quoted $250 for both of their shots total over the phone; after I was in the exam room the estimate was close to $250.00 per dog! Punched my brother's dog in the face (while he was restrained, mind you) for growling directly after being told he is not a trusting animal. The woman in charge then proceeded to give us "lessons" saying that we shouldn't play tug-of-war with him. I play tug-of-war with my 1/16 wolf/husky and she's sweet as can be. Don't understand the connection there. Compared to our regular vet they were incredibly unprofessional. Also it smells like a vet, so I don't really understand what separates them from other animal clinics in that respect. They really advertise that it smells "good", so if an animal clinic smells "good" i guess that's accurate. My canine and feline will never set foot in that place as long a decent vet clinic is still standing within driving distance. read more

I liked the vet, but from the second I walked in the door they were trying to sell me things, from services to food. I took my puppy in a few different times but could no longer afford their prices. The straw that broke the camel's back was the quote for over $600 to have her spayed. The vet also suggested surgery on her teeth. We ended up going to Big Country Vet where they treat her great, said her teeth are fine, and only charged us $150 to have her spayed. I get that they have to pay for all those commercials and that fancy building, but maybe scale back on that and quit trying to sell unnecessary procedures and quit price gouging. Not the best experience. I feel like they try to rip you off. We currently take our dog to Big Country Animal Clinic. Our dog has been on Trivectis for three years. Big Country gave us a new prescription on our last check-up, but they do not carry Trivectis. The vet told us we would be able to purchase it anywhere that carried it. We tried to pick it up at Windmill Animal Hospital, but they would not fill the prescription without seeing our dog. We could not find another vet in Abilene that carried Trivectis, so we called Small animal medical clinic in Brownwood. They are mailing it to our house without any issues. Windmill Animal Hospital just wanted to charge us for a visit. You are not paying for better health care for your animal. You are paying for the real estate. read more

Don't use these people. Took my dog in for an intestinal blockage, they recommended surgery. Not a high risk procedure. I paid half the procedures amount before they would start. My dog died when they removed the oxygen tube in recovery. Think they rushed it? I took dog in at 11:00 and was suppossed to pick up at 5:00. It was about 2:00 they called and told me he died. This place is an expensive assembly line, not quality care. I now will have to live with the thought of, if I had picked a different Vet, my dog would probably still be alive. When I first started using Windmill, I loved the vet. Dr Price was actually willing to diagnose and treat my Sheltie with hypothyroidism even though the testing didn't show hypothyroidism. My Sheltie immediately became my Sheltie again. Since then, every time I go in, I am blindsided by expenses. Sure they give you an estimate when you walk in, but as issues come up, they refuse to discuss costs anymore even when I specifically asked. This last time She turned her back on us and ignored our questions. When she recently diagnosed my cat as diabetic, she gave little information about managing feline diabetes and when I asked about home monitoring, she gave no information other than the brand of meter that they use. Later after struggling on our own to figure it out and asking for suggestions and advice I got nothing other than the standard suggestion for vet prescription food which after researching is pathetically poor food and not any better than food I can get at any store. read more

The last time we went, my husband and I attempted to take our dog (a small puppy) in to check out a slight cough. We were stopped at the front, and told that we needed to go around to the back--to the quarantine area--so she wouldn't "contaminate" any other dogs. Her only symptom at all was a mysterious cough, and she was not coughing frequently. She was also securely held in my husband's arms and on a leash. When we went to the back, they told us to wait for, oh, at least 15 minutes. In the summer. Temperatures were over 100 and the car's AC was not cool enough to have her wait in the car for who knows how long. We just drove off to find another vet. One who would not tell us to have our sick dog wait in a hot car. read more
