There are no words... no words for how livid I have been at this entire process. NEVER USE YELP TO FIND AN ACCOUNTANT!!! We contacted Fritz in early March to do our taxes, this is the first year we haven't used turbo tax. We met with him, gave him all of our documents, and were told it would probably take him about an hour ($175 or so). A few days later he asks if we mind if he files an extension because he's so busy he probably can't get to it until after April 15th. Um... that's weird. It's March. And an hour. Is this going to impact us? I don't like this, but ooook. You're the professional. To make things weirder he sends us an allegedly totally accurate pre-submission document with the amount we owe the IRS. He tells us we need to pay this amount and he'll file later. This also seems weird. If you've gone through all the effort to get some official documents with a "final amount owed", why don't you just file the taxes? Whatever, we pay. We wait. Around May 1 we haven't heard anything. I email Fritz to see the status. Everything is fine, haven't gotten around to it, we have until October to file. No worries. Skip to end of May. He emails my husband (despite the fact I have been the one communicating this whole time) and tells him he LOST all of our info and documents and that was the REAL delay. But oh it's totally cool, he found them and re-did the return. Except he had no idea what he did the first time, and somehow we now owe another $400. But he's not sure why. Even though the first quote was "accurate". Just pay it. We email, we call, trying to get an explanation as to what was wrong. Can we get a breakdown? Can you explain what this document is? We get 1 word responses that don't clarify a damn thing. I'm so mad I can't even talk to the guy anymore and make my husband do it before I lose my mind. He fares no better than I do, but he's less prone to outbursts of rage. Eventually we give up and pay the additional $400 and send him our signatures to file. Do we get any sort of documentation saying our taxes have been filed? Do we get any sort of electronic copy? Do we get a "hey I filed your taxes email"? Hell no. We get a bill for $350. With no explanation, no breakdown. No "I had to spend an extra hour or two working on this because..." Just pay me $350 after I MADE YOUR TAX LIFE HELL FOR THREE MONTHS AND NEVER PROVIDED ONE SOLID ANSWER YOU ASKED FOR. I wouldn't even refer Fritz to my worst enemy. I will never use an accountant as long as I live. Disaster. read more

Like the previous reviewer, I contacted Fritz because of the positive reviews here. I'm also very happy that I did! Even though I procrastinated like crazy this year, Fritz was able to squeeze me and got my taxes filed on time. I had an exceptionally complicated personal return this year ... I pay estimated taxes, bought my first home, liquidated bonds, rent to a roommate, and the list goes on. Long story short, I expected to be writing the IRS a sizeable check this year, but because Fritz knows the tax code so much better than I do, he found several errors in my calculations and saved me both a lot of money and headache. I had messed up my tax returns for 2009 and 2010 (using Turbotax), but didn't know it until IRS told me they wanted several thousand dollars from me!! After asking around with family and friends and trying a few people with no luck, I checked Yelp and decided to try Fritz. Good move! He looked over my paperwork in an informal comfortable sunny room in his home, and by the end of the meeting he predicted that not only would I not owe IRS money, I would get "about 400 dollars" back! Last week I got a check from IRS for $450! Jackpot! From the little research I had done, Fritz is a little more expensive than some services, but I am very happy. Maybe you do get what you pay for! Going to Fritz was by far the worst business decision I have ever made in seven years of self-employment. He gave me extremely bad advice for my business that several years later I am still paying for and trying to straighten out. Also, I found out after it was too late that the work he did for my business took him only a few minutes to complete, and that I could have done it for myself for free -- and he charged me $1500 for it!! He tricked me into going headfirst into something no ethical accountant would have advised me to even dip a toe in. He took advantage of my naivete to screw me out of every possible penny, even though he knew I was barely scraping by. Years later, I am still furious, because this was not a simple mistake on his part, but a calculated, greedy move designed to prey on a young business owner for his own gain. For whatever reason we hadn't filed in a few years. Went to Fritz with with basically no info. He completed all the years returns in a timely manner. He asked for information, receipts and such that we hadn't thought of, so that was good. The first time we spoke, I told him we never filed in 2007 so we needed to add that year as well. I can't remember what his exact answer was but basically told me that that was so long ago we don't need to include it. Wrong! The IRS absolutely does care about un filed taxes that long ago. So we had someone else do that real quick. Also, Fritz was going to charge me $1000 to apply and set up payment installments with the IRS on our behalf, I was able to do that online in about 20 minutes myself for I think it was $149. read more

I started using Fritz two years ago. I had some back taxes I needed to figure out. He helped me get everything strait and gave me great guidance. He charged me a fare price and did all the heavy lifting. He was not judgmental of my issues and helped me resolve them. This was so important.
