I've been going to Vicki for years. She makes doing taxes painless. I mean, I stress myself out before I go to see her, looking for all the necessary paperwork. Stuff I should neatly file away throughout the year (like right now) instead of waiting until tax time to find it. But once I get everything together, go to her office and hand her my paperwork I am so relieved. Because then I know everything is going to be handled properly. If there is money owed to me, she will find it. But honestly. She's not going to fudge anything. One very cool thing about her is that she remembers the smallest details. Seriously, she remembers things I forgot I told her about the last time I saw her. She'll ask me how I'm doing with this, am I still doing that... She follows up. Previous bad experience keeps getting worse with this company. Said they filed a return, but didnt. Found out years later...tax office contacted me about not receiving a return, with over a thousand in penalty fees. The saving grace is that Vicki rightly offered to pay the penalty. But at the end of the day its was just extra unwanted hassle and attention from the tax office. Who wants that. read more

If I could give this Tax Service 0 stars I would. 3 years in a row the IRS penalized me for including an IRA that was disallowed. I was penalized over $ 5,000. This mistake was made and no apology was given and no refund of interest was offered. This year when I was sent a bill by the IRS for 1,600 I faxed over the letter from the IRS And heard NOTHING from Tax Pro Plus after 4 messages faxs and finally an email did I get a response. I got excuses. Death in the family... Etc etc. They weren't grieving enough to charge me 700.00 PLUS!! For my 2014 return!! Thanks for less than nothing. For someone who presumes they know their way around the IRS and tax forms they sure don't show up on your tax return. Run don't walk from these cheats. Oh. Just got the bill from the State of CA for 542.00 Thanks so much Vickie for your incompetence. read more

I have very mixed feelings about Vicki. It's seems very clear that she now does not enjoy her job, and is in such a bad mood that she yelled at me the last time I had my taxes prepared by her. But, prior to that, she did a great job for several years with my taxes. She had a sense of humor, was accurate, and made coming to the tax preparer a pleasure, rather than something to be dreaded. But then she moved to a new (more expensive, I'm sure) building. It appears she now overbooks in order to pay the rent-when Vicki did my taxes last year, she appeared to be in a huge rush. In fact, I caught a few mistakes she made when I double-checked the numbers when I came home. When I asked her about the mistakes, she did make the corrections, but she did not apologize, it kind of felt like I was wasting her time. Plus, as I mentioned, she yelled at me during our appointment, which I was in shock about at the time. Yelling at your clients is never acceptable. Not only that, her prices have gotten into the stratospheric range. I am perfectly willing to pay someone good $ to do my taxes, but it was getting uber-expensive, and accuracy should be of paramount importance to an EA. I don't understand what happened with Vicki, but that will probably remain one of life's mysteries. read more

I'm a freelancer and my wife has a steady 9-to-5 gig. We file jointly. My wife has a few more intricate tax situations that need to be dealt with each year and for the past several, we've taken our load of statements, Quickbooks, W2's and 1099's to Vicki who has been an ace at sorting everything out amongst all the ever-changing tax rules of the past few years. She's a straight-shooter who tells it like it is and explains things in a clear, uncomplicated way. Plus, she's got a great, dry sense of humor which is nice when you find yourself nervously walking into the great unknown tax season each year. She definitely takes the sting out of it for us with her more than fair rates and results. HIGHLY recommended! read more

Can't recommend the place for filing personal taxes. I'll list the pros and cons here for those who don't want to read the whole thing: PROS: Quick, friendly. CONS: Expensive, don't care about lowering your taxes, make spelling errors. My story: Originally came here because I had capital gains from Bitcoin this year and wanted to do it right. Called their number, paid the $100 required to get the foot in the door (??), came in, Vicki took about 30 minutes to tabulate the numbers and I was done with taxes and out of ~$450 at this point. $450 is a lot for me, but I wrote it off to "getting the best possible tax treatment there ever can be" as Tax Pro suggested they provide. In the following week I learned that I'm eligible to file as a head of household, making my taxes about $6,000 lower. Sadly Vicki didn't ask me any questions to establish whether I'm qualified or even mentioned anything at all - I found out purely by chance. She spent our appointment mostly chatting me up instead of asking important questions. This is of course unacceptable for a tax agency that charges this much. I would expect them to put in the necessary work to lower my taxes so I don't have to put my own time to learn what I'm eligible for. Then I had an email exchange with Vicki where I laid out my situation, and she said she'll take care of the change (separate, amended tax return for federal and state). I came in about a week later, picked up my amended returns (which I was told to mail in on my own), and learned that I owe Vicki another $150 or so (oh well..). The icing on the cake? On both federal and state amended returns there are SPELLING ERRORS (my name on federal, my dependent's name on state). I mean, who charges this much money and doesn't care enough to proofread client's name????? I didn't bother calling back, just used a white out to correct the errors and sent them in. Now I'm out of $600, *almost* had to pay $6,000 more in taxes than I had to. The funny thing is that this agency has a little poster up front in the sitting area, something to the tune of "We charge a lot, but that's because you can only expect the best from us. If you can't afford us, go find some inferior service elsewhere. We're the best. Blah blah blah." Save your money and do your own taxes, for heaven's sake, or at least find an agency that doesn't overcharge for crap service. read more

In one word...BLAH! I read all the great reviews and thought I would give Vicky a try. To be fair, she's got a good personality and will make you feel comfortable. However, if you have some tax knowledge and can use turbo tax, don't waste your time with them. This place is good if you prefer someone to type in the numbers instead of doing it yourself. I think this is like going to H&R Block. The reason why I was really disappointed is that she really didn't have a good answer to any question I asked her regarding next year's taxes. I mean the whole point of going to a professional is to get some advice and get them to answer your questions. They are very good with inputting your data in their system but cannot really offer advice on any tax related matter. E.g. When I asked her what she thought of a 529 plan, she simply said "I don't like them". I found that answer rather vapid as I need some tax related reason for a blanket no, I don't like them. So when I insisted of why she felt like that, she said well, not all kids go to college. I was expecting her to tell me something regarding deductibility, California state laws, whether it made sense financially etc. To tell your clients (one of which is a PhD and the other has a masters), that some kids don't go to college so that's why 529 plans suck is quite bizarre! I just expected a bit more professional expertise and not just making jokes and inputting data. Overall, I got the same amount of refund as I had calculated with turbo tax, so overall I just lost their fee ($500). Simply not worth your time or money to go here. read more

Huge mismatch in expectation vs reality. My taxes were high and bit complicated and I was looking for someone who would spend some time on this and maximize my refund. The tax consultant assured she will find different ways such as filing separate vs joint etc. I don't think she spent more than an hour. Her taxes came out to be higher than turbo tax. Basically she did not do any due diligence. Finally someone from her office called and said my taxes were ready without any offer to discuss or help improve. When I heard the tax due from me, I was shocked! It was ~ 20k more than I calculated on TT. Anyways, I did not want to end up educating her. So I decided to go the TT route. They argued that I owe her money for the work done. I paid up $300 but I might have as well gone to Vegas. She may be good for simple quick returns when she does not have to spend a lot of time, but not when you need real help. read more

I've worked with accountants in many different situations. I always feel like an idiot and find I'm cowering in the corner in shame for missing something; I hate dealing with financials. Then, a friend recommended Vickie. From my first phone conversation onward, I was blown away at her intelligence, knowledge, and ability to make me, the customer, feel welcome. Being freelance I have a veritable mine-field of paperwork: 1099s & W4s from every corner of the country, deductions, etc, etc. Last year I went to a CPA who failed to put me at ease and charged me an arm and a leg! I was on the hunt for someone who could handle my taxes in an efficient manner, break down complex issues in to plain English, was personable, and who wouldn't nickel and dime me. TPP answered all of those charges! Vicki charges fair rates for her work - it's not the cheapest out there, but let's be honest: you get what you pay for. THIS is the place to go! I went to H&R Block before and not only did they make mistakes on my tax returns, but they just seemed a little out there and not organized. I wanted a good long-term tax preparer. Tax Pro Plus is my tax place from now on - rarely can you get professional work done with so much laughter, which I wasn't prepared for walking in. We went to Vicki last year for our taxes and it was a big mistake. Beware she is not an accountant but a tax preparer... so why did she charge us $500 for our taxes??? My dad, who is a CPA did schedule g for my property and she didn't even have to do that. On top of overcharging us, I had to send her copies of our documents to her again even though I had already given her the originals (good thing I have copies). There were lots of miscommunications - she suggested my husband and I to file separately when we met her, but when I picked up the documents, she had filed it together. She is disorganized, overpriced, incompetent, and her bitter personality which everyone has mentioned is another downfall. Do not come here!!!! read more

I have been coming to Vicki at Tax Pro Plus for the last 3 years ever since they were in a little apartment building in Palms. I used to do it myself using TurboTax but my tax situation got more complicated so I didn't want to risk it by doing it myself anymore. I asked around and looked online, and found Tax Plus Pro here on Yelp. They have been my go-to place every year for my taxes since. Vicki is a straight shooter (sometimes with foul words---so beware if you have a problem with it). She is very good at what she does, finding all kinds of deduction for me. Last year I ended up owing money after she tried various ways to find enough deductions for me. She offered tips on how to deal with my payments, and how to prepare for the next year so I wouldn't be in the same situation again. This year she worked miracles and got a huge refund for me because she was able to work the system a bit. I was floored because I've never gotten so much refund back in my life before. Their fees (flat rate, not hourly) aren't the cheapest, but it gives me a peace of mind knowing that no stone was left un-turned looking for deductions to maximize my refund. Vicki truly cares about your getting as much as your money back. I highly recommend Vicki and her firm for your tax needs. Parking was a breeze for their new building on Pico. There are metered parking in front of the building and on the side street adjacent to it. I deducted 1 star because after I went home and double checked my receipts/records (which she told me to do and let her know if there's any error), and found that Vicki had miscalculated 1 item (left out a receipt). Everything else lined up perfectly and it was easy to track after she organized my records. read more

After years of using Turbo Tax and H&R, I can honestly say I'll never be going back. Ever. I came to Vicki totally stressed out after dealing with a nasty tax altercation with a former employer. Broke and in the dumps, I begrudgingly came here knowing that my taxes needed to get filed. Not only did she work to save me the most money, but she made me feel so at ease and comforted in what seemed to be the worst day, of the worst month, of the worst year of my life. Tax Pro Plus was fast, easy, and netted me a great refund. I'm very confident that they got me every penny possible! I reached out to them via email, and they sent me a very complete checklist of items to prepare. With that in hand, I didn't feel the need to schedule an up front appointment. If I HAD needed that up front appointment, I think the $100 deposit that some people are complaining about seems reasonable. Vicki is a smart lady...her time shouldn't be free. Besides, it's a deposit, not a fee. It goes towards your tax prep. Silly thing to complain about, I think. ANYway, after dropping off my initial paperwork, I did everything else via email. I even took some cell phone pics of papers they needed and sent it. They're absolutely flexible and easy to work with. I finally met Vicki to pick up my taxes (which only took a week or two to complete), and like everybody says, she's a real gem. She's relaxed, funny, yet absolutely professional and competent. Her fees don't seem outrageous to me. I've paid more. I've paid less. In the end, I think it's fair. She also offers to let you pre-pay her a small fee in case you're audited. Sort of like audit insurance...she won't bill you hourly if you pay that fee and you happen to find yourself under the IRS microscope. In the end, I'm absolutely satisfied. I'll recommend her to friends, and will definitely return in the future, both for my taxes, and any other accounting needs I might have. read more

I normally do my own taxes, but I had som really weird stuff going on in 2010, and I felt I needed some help. I found Tax Pro Plus on Yelp, and called for an appointment near the beginning of April. I walked into Vikcki's office with my tax returns, and she was great! She reviewed everything I had done, and said I had done a good job, and she couldn't take my money! I was surprised and pleased with her honesty and professionalism. She gave me a couple of tips, and we talked about kids for a while. She will chat you up and tell you everything is great, even if it's not. I asked her two separate times, in no ambiguous terms, if I owed AMT tax on stock options I had bought. She assured me I owed no additional taxes beyond the normal W2 stuff. It seemed different from what I'd read on the internet, but hey, this lady is a pro, who am I to doubt her. I'm paying good money to a licensed tax pro, this is why I'm spending the money. Subsequent year, I went to a different accountant just because something felt off previously. I asked him to look at my tax return from when Vicki did it, and lo and behold, I owe ... drumroll ... $11,500 in AMT taxes! That was very close to the number I came up with myself with my severely ignorant understanding of taxes. And I owed the interest as well to IRS since I was late. So this company cost me not only their fee which I think was 275, I had to pay the interest on that 11.5k, as well as another 350 to get it fixed by someone who knew what they were doing. She emphatically does NOT understand AMT taxes. I would be less harsh if she'd just admitted that, but I got the treatment of "Hon, why don't you just let me figure this stuff out, K?" She loves to do the drawn out Keeeeey. Apparently some people like that. I'm ambivalent about it except that it was used on me to suggest "stop worrying about that" Yyyyeah, I should have been worrying about that as it turns out. read more
