I've been getting my taxes done with Diane Jara for about 5 years; I got referred to her by an old coworker, to whom I'll be forever grateful. Diane and her staff are extremely personable and Diane really knows her stuff. Since I itemize deductions for my art biz I need a professional like her who'll make me feel at ease with the professional manner in which my taxes are prepared. My yearly appointment with her takes about an hour while we go over all the items she inputs into the computer. Easy-peasy, AND she's open on Saturdays. Since I used to get my taxes prepared by a relative for free, I don't know how competitive Diane's prices are, but they seem fair to me. Sure you could probably go to one of those chains for a cheaper price, but did you know some of them aren't even actual CPAs? It all depends on what you're comfortable with, and I like the relationship I've developed with Diane over the years. So why not 5 stars? I'd requested some worksheets and forms a little while ago but had some trouble getting what I wanted, and there was some miscommunication that was kind of frustrating. In the end I just gave up and I worked it out with Diane during my appointment. So they're not perfect, but I'm a big fan. I've referred several people to this office and they've all been pleased, so if you're in the market for a new accountant, you should seriously consider TAX-411. read more

I'm a married home owner with 2 kids. I've used tax preparers and CPA's in the past and none have ever provided any value in giving me actual tax advice for my finances and how I can get the max tax return. I'd thought 411 would be different since the tax person had "IRS experience" and may have more useful tips other than contributing to my traditional IRA. Turns out, she was no help either. In short, just use Turbo Tax since you are asked the same series of questions and at your own pace for a lot cheaper. It's free to input your data through their website and you only pay if you wish to process your tax filing through them. Every service I've used, including 411, simply ask me and my wife a series of questions prompted of them from whatever tax prep program they use. At the end, the program spits out my tax refund estimate and I pay whatever fee for their services, which is basically inputting data into a program that I can easily do myself. Surprisingly, 411 cost more than the actual CPA I used the year before (no wonder they didn't want to give me a quote over the phone). Receptionist said we can come in for a free consultation and pay only if we want to them to process our tax returns. This is why I am giving a poor review. After spending over an hour for our "free consultation", I was told it would be almost $300 for State and Federal filing. I was shocked and exclaimed that I was not happy with the price since my previous CPA was much cheaper and if they were up front to begin with, we would not have wasted each other's time. The person got sour and was not happy that we were about to just walk out. We decided to continue the process since we spent over an hour there and did not have time out of our busy schedule to see our CPA from the prior year plus he was likely booked through the season. I decided to use Turbo Tax going forward and have been doing my own taxes ever since, paying roughly $80 to file both state and federal. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with these types of services ever again. read more

They so far lived up to their moto, "Honesty, Integrity & Trust". For the past couple days I have been searching and looking for reviews for tax preparers around Downey. I was about to settle for H&R block but read reviews that were not so good. I don't feel confident enough to trust people who don't have background in doing taxes. Tax 411 is just around the corner from me and when I saw them on Yelp I got curious and gave them a call. The receptionist is very friendly and willing to help and give you an idea of what needs to be done and arranged for a consultation. When I came in I was very impressed on how clean the office was. After checking in... the receptionist already greeted me by name. I waited roughly about 10 minutes. Which was totally fine since they had a TV in the waiting area tuned in to Family Feud. Kept me entertained. Then I met with Diane who is the owner of the office. Seeing all the awards and certificates on the wall and proudly displaying that they were featured in a magazine, I felt reassured about this small tax firm. Then I find out that Diane use to work for the IRS which would explain how they are able to help those in trouble with the IRS. I came in with some questions if I needed to do file as itemized or not. Diane answered my questions and after seeing how much I was gonna get back on a simple form, I left very happy and pleased. Don't really know what the guidelines are for fees on tax preparations, but her rate was very reasonable. I am sure there are others who are cheaper, but there is that trust factor. This is a person with background in Taxes... not some high school graduate that will enter all your info in a computer and give you back a number. So in conclusion.... I found what I was looking for. I will see Diane and Tax-411 again next year! Maybe sooner to attend some of their free business training. read more

Since Diane would never mention this in public, I will say it. I am a teacher at Warren High School, and I teach senior AVID students. Most of my students are first-generation college-bound students, and as you know, one of the main obstacles to starting and finishing college is navigating through finances. Well, I learned about a financial literacy curriculum about two years ago for high school students by an internationally known financial investor whom you can podcast and listen to on the radio. But it came at a cost we just could not afford. But a representative of the company said they have a foundation that looks for sponsors to help schools. The representative got back to me a few months later, and said they found someone, and that our AVID seniors were going to learn the curriculum! I must tell you, my AVID seniors were learning about mutual funds, savings, giving, and even which insurances to purchase and which ones they didn't need during quarantine and teaching each other on Zoom through group presentations for months THANKS TO DIANE JARA OF TAX-411! And despite this tough economy, she's picked up our kids once again so that our 100 AVID seniors in the Class of 2021 can be financially knowledgeable before they graduate.
