We were visiting Zürich and looking for a nice spot for dinner near our hotel. Our first choice was closed for summer vacation and so we looked at the menu here and the friendly waiter standing outside the door beckoned us to come inside. The interior is very handsome and inviting but we opted to dine on the outdoor sidewalk along the side of the restaurant (and not facing the street).
The menu was written in German, a language we struggle with, but we know our way around Italian cuisine so with a bit of help from the bilingual waiter we rather easily selected our choices. After studying the multi page menu for a few minutes we started with bruschetta and some Swiss white wines. I must say that the service was amazingly fast. It was almost as if the restaurant kitchen and bar read our minds before we had even ordered! Maybe that's an example of the legendary Swiss punctuality? I don't know but it carried through the entire meal. That is not to say we felt rushed. Not at all. Our main courses did not arrive before we had finished the bruschetta and were ready to order additional glasses of wine.
My main meal was Pasta à la Vongole (pasta with clams in a light garlic, wine and olive oil sauce). My husband ordered a classic spaghetti bolognese. We really enjoyed both meals. Pastas are offered in 2 sizes, depending on your hunger levels. My husband's "smaller" version was anything but small.
Neither of us needed dessert, but heck, we were on vacation so we decided on a chocolate chip gelato, which was delicious as well.
Service was professional yet friendly, and we thought the prices were similar to what we would have paid in the US for a comparable meal, except that the wines were a real bargain at €7 and €8 per glass.
All in all our first meal in Zürich was one we won't soon forget, for all of the right reasons.
The restaurant is located very close to a stop on the #2 tram, so it's easily accessible from much of the city. read more
