My 11 year old daughter was crushed when she was exposed to needing braces. She really scared and anxious when she came to have them installed, but the doctors explained every step with care so she wouldn't have to be scared. I wish I could rate our experience at this office higher, but they make it really difficult! They have poor performance on both logistics and clinical care. - Logistics: It is impossible to find convenient appointments within a reasonable timeframe (4-6 weeks). Usually, they are booked up months in advance, with an occasional opening here and there in the middle of the school day. If you need to re-schedule an appointment for any reason, forget about getting in on the same month as the original slot. They have WAY too many patients for the number of hours that they work and are consistently overbooked. While I am sure that's profitable for the office, it is a major inconvenience for patients and caretakers. - Clinical: My child had a 2-phase treatment plan that was supposed to last a certain number of years. The first phase was completed on time, the second phase has taken at least 50% longer than originally anticipated, with endless changes in which way teeth need to be moved and how. Regardless of how assiduously they follow treatment instructions, the next visit involves a different set of instructions moving the teeth in yet another direction. For months and months and months. Given the difficulty to schedule follow up appointments per above, this makes for a major pain for the family - not to mention an unhappy child with braces throughout their whole middle school experience, feeling defeated in spite of following all treatment recommendations. We've only met the actual doctor once or twice, given that most of the treatment is delivered by the dental technicians under her supervision. With COVID, we haven't seen her in years as we are, understandably, not allowed in the treatment area. The office does have very modern technology and slick facilities, which are great. However, I suspect that they have chosen to over-commit themselves to pay for all of that technology. The front desk is staff is friendly and tries to help, although there is so much they can do in an overbooked practice and ineffective clinical situations. All said, there are many other orthodontic offices in the area. I recommend you try those first. read more

Could not recommend Taverez Orthodontics more highly. They are incredibly professional and provide top tier service. I'm in the process of getting Invisalign done and the overall process has been nothing short of perfect. Dr. Taverez and co. go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable on every visit and actually take the time to answer any and all questions you have AND they do so in a simple terms that you can understand. I had something come up last minute and Dr. Taverez and her team were very responsive and accommodating. They were able to work with me and help schedule a new appointment that worked for MY schedule. Can't say that about most places! Office is clean and well maintained. All of the necessary precautions are in place to make you feel as safe as possible during these crazy Covid times. Really do not have anything negative to offer. Appoints are efficient and on time. I wore invisalign through Dr Tavarez prior to and during Covid. At the end of the treatment my bite was off (CO-CR discrepancy) which was causing discomfort, jaw pain, and headaches. I saw multiple orthodontists who identified this problem. Dr Tavarez would not put the time/effort into fixing the issue though, and insisted she would only let me get a retainer to hold the bite she had brought the teeth to. Eventually I switched to a different orthodontist who patiently tried a few low cost things before we finally decided to transfer the invisalign account to him and get another set of aligners until it was fixed (which it was!). So I ended up having to spend a few thousand dollars in addition to Dr Tavarez's higher original price. But at least I'm now pain free. Esp if you are middle aged and are concerned with more than just visual appearance I'd suggest reviewing orthodontists carefully and finding one who will be attentive until the job is completed properly. The jaw in people beyond teen years is less malleable and that needs to be well considered, esp in people who may be more sensitive to pain. I gave her 2 stars because she is reasonably knowledgeable and made my teeth look nice aesthetically, but perhaps should have given fewer stars given her disregard for addressing my pain due to her treatment. read more

She also informed me how orthodontists look for different things than dentists do, which isn't surprising since they are two different professions. Coming from a family where my father was an accomplished orthodontist, children actually looked forward to seeing him and getting braces. He interacted with his clients and had a gentile bedside manner and showed a real interest in their development. There is only one orthodontist for two offices. One office is in Menlo Park. One is in San Carlos. There are many many patients. I'm sure this is good for the orthodontist's profits but not so good for the patients. If you or your child has a need for help (a wire comes out or some other difficulty with the appliances) it is very difficult to get an appointment. You may have to drive to the office far from your house. And your school. And with Bay Area traffic, it can be a nightmare. The staff who makes appointments seems disinterested. In my opinion it is more of a one-doctor factory or patient mill. I wish we had gone to another orthodontist. Do you want to make the same mistake we did? read more

We looked at a number of orthodontists including Dr. Tavarez. We were really put of by the assembly line practice. Dr. Tavarez seems to be spending more time thinking about marketing and and patient acquisition than on treating actual patients. We spent 5 min with her in the initial visit and about 1 hour with various marketing, finance and lab technicians. Not the family practice we were hoping for. Based on some of the reviews and friends' feedback this would likely be the last time we saw Dr. Tavarez. We decided to go elsewhere. Just not a good fit for us. read more

Disappointing experience. I purchased the Invisalign package at Dr. Tavarez's office and unfortunately I was very disappointed with the result. Not all of my teeth were straightened and I am unhappy with my overbite. I even paid extra for a permanent retainer but during the last few months the permanent retainer has detached... twice. I had to pay for the reattachment of the retainer -- even though it was not my fault that the retainer had come off. (I was eating ordinary meals when the retainer fell off). I have friends who have had permanent retainers from other orthodontists for over 10 years and they have had no problems with their retainers. Regarding hygiene, there was one time I was at Dr. Tavarez's office and I noticed that she forgot to change gloves in between patients. The staff generally try to be hygienic but once in a while I see them using contaminated gloves to touch communal drawer handles. The staff and Dr. Tavarez are nice and personable but, unfortunately, I was unhappy with my overall experience at her offices. read more

I had invisalign treatment done by Dr. Tavarez. I got 3 quotes before I picked my doc to do the treatment. She had the best price and I could tell she was confident in her technical skills. So, I went with her. They run a really good business here. Scheduling can be a little tight but I think that's because they provide good value and have a decent customer base. I had some issues with treatment that were specific to my teeth. Particularly, I had some crowns that were difficult to get buttons placed on. They fell off many times. Dr. Tavarez always got me in very quickly and worked around my schedule to have them replaced like 6 times. She tried different materials and buttons until we found the right combination. She never complained or made me feel like she wasn't going to see me through to the absolute best of her ability. We also had another issue that was specific to my teeth where she could have tried to take an easier route but chose to pick the more time intensive route in order to get the best result. Again, that made me feel good about her. The staff is really good too. I never had any issues with any of the techs or front office. I highly recommend this office for orthodontic treatment. My daughter got a retainer fitted at Dr. Tavarez's office. We won't be going back. Our 9 year old daughter never had an imprint done before and when she gagged on the funny tasting mold and started crying, the nurse rolled her eyes, said that she did this 30 times a day, and abruptly left the room. Our daughter cried harder and my wife was in shock. Really not the child friendly and supportive environment we expected. Dr. Tavarez was courteous enough but her smiles never reached her eyes. One of those "nice," but not kind, people. The receptionists at both offices seemed genuinely caring however. The Bay Area has so many great orthodontists. Avoid this one. read more

My oldest child has Tavarez but my next kid will not. She is very unaccommodating in her scheduling and my daughter has to miss school frequently. I chose the Tavarez office on the recommendation of a friend. We consulted with two other highly-recommended orthodontists first--Dr. Samuels in Palo Alto (we waited over an hour for her--she was out at lunch--when she finally saw us she was abrupt and had not one word of explanation or apology). I found Dr. Ross in Los Altos to be condescending to his staff. By the time we saw Dr. Tavarez, I was impressed with the comfort and appearance of the office, the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, and I was a bit bowled over by Dr. Tavarez herself, who has a bit of the movie star about her in the office. I agree with others here that she is not the most warm and bubbly person, and I'd also comment that the office has the general aspect of an assembly line. BUT I have found almost all of her technical staff to be pleasant and thorough, and ALL of her front office staff to be personable, good-humored, and competent. Perhaps all orthodontists do this, but Dr. Tavares offered us several years of free consultations prior to the time that my son was actually ready for orthodontia. He had visits every six months for several years, at which time the staff took photos and x-rays, and even forwarded the x-rays to our regular dentist, free of charge. (Is this standard behavior? It seemed uncommonly generous to me.) When we actually started orthodontia, we saved what seemed like a lot of money by paying the entire amount up front, in cash; my son has had to have new sets of aligners made, and there was no additional fee for this, even though the reason for new aligners were loss and failing to wear them an adequate number of hours (i.e., his own doing). I have no reason yet to doubt the professionalism of the treatment that my son and I have both received. He is on his second year, and I am just beginning my own treatment with Invisalign. Dr. Tavarez has been wonderful. We moved when we were about 2/3 of the way through treatment and Dr. Tavarez and her office made that transition go as smoothly as possible. We went to three orthodontists here that we were recommended to and all three were very complimentary of the work that our daughter had received with Dr. Tavarez. She personally spent time on the phone with several of the doctors to help us figure out which one would be most in line with the treatment that she had started to minimize the time and money that we'd have to spend. Amazing. Pretty much sums it up for me. Dr. Tavarez came to my rescue after 3 years of an invislign nightmare, which incidently was supposed to be 6 months- thanks to a general dentist who clearly had no clue what she was doing. Dr. Tavarez and her staff are beyond friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable, helpful and talented and her office is state of the art. When I walked into Dr. Tavarez's office I was a wreck as I had been through 3 years of general dentistry hell. Dr. Tavarez was very thorough in her assessment, very detailed with her work and she was very clear in communicating what she was going to do and why. Dr. Tavaraz fixed an issue in 3 visits which a general dentist created and couldn't fix in 3 years. Miracle worker. My only complaint is that a photo is taken of you on your initial visit which I did not get the memo on- and I had just worked out and could not have been more unsightly. Unbelievable. Both my daughters are patients of Dr. Tavarez and we all love going to the orthodontist on appointment day! The staff is extremely professional, yet friendly and fun, and from the second visit on they remembered both me and my daughter. I like that you never have to wait to be seen, my child usually goes back within 5 minutes of arriving, and the waiting room is cozy and well stocked with a variety of magazines and orthodontic literature. There is a big screen TV to watch and Internet connection should you need to work. I am always comfortable waiting for my child. I like that Dr. Tavarez and/or the technician give you a detailed report at each visit, and they support the report with photos and digital video of how the teeth are progressing. My friend recommended this practice and now I've recommended it to two friends and we are all pleased with the service and (so far) the outcome. As soon as they knew I recommended them to our friends, I received a lovely Thank You by way of a coffee gift card. As a last note we moved from another state in the middle of my oldest childs orthodontic treatment. We loved our Orthodontist where we came from and were totally prepared to be disappointed, but I'm happy to say we were very pleasantly surprised, the last place had tons of bells and whistles, but the totally package here (office, staff AND Dr.) make this place outstanding. read more

The quality of care at this office is high, and the experience is too. I never had any idea of what they were putting in my mouth and they never told me what kind of affect it would have on me. Absolutely horrible experience. Initial impression was great, but after paying up front I was immediately treated poorly because they didn't need to fake it anymore. They put on a show until you commit and then service from all aspects becomes really disappointing. After a few months, treatment was not aligning with my goals, and Dr. Tavarez walked away while I was in the middle of asking a single question. She never spent more than two minutes with me at any of my follow up appointments, and my worsening alignment was not addressed and continued to deteriorate. Staff were rude, scheduling was constantly frustrating, and my results didn't even match the goals we had initially discussed. If I hadn't already paid, I would have left her shortly after starting treatment, and if I knew I would end up with crooked front teeth I would have never told myself to trust the process with Dr. Tavarez despite my personal frustrations. This is my absolute strongest recommendation to take your money and your smile elsewhere! You deserve better! read more

I, too am unhappy with the results of my treatment with Dr. Tavarez. I even referred friends here in the beginning and I received no thank you's whatsoever. Then I regretted referring since my friends weren't happy either. Now we all got stuck with the treatment. I didn't know you can change orthodontists in between treatments. ALL her employees here are females. There's ZERO male. They talk among themselves while they treat you. Some about their boyfriends, girl problems, etc. The doctor has very heavy hands. I have lived in many different countries my entire life and have seen many dentists of all races and specialties. This doctor by far has the heaviest hands! She is never warm either. I also have the permanent retainers and it's come off twice while eating a regular meal. I will NOT recommend this place to anybody. read more

I worked in San Francisco and live in San Jose, so scheduling an appointment can be a bit problematic for me BUT Ramona was so accommodating - she worked around my schedule most of the time. I have two daughters who have been treated by Dr. Tavarez and her staff. My first daughter needed two phases of braces and at one point needed to wear a head gear. My second daughter just needed to wear braces and now both are in the retainer phase. Each daughter's needs were a little different and Dr. Tavarez was fantastic, and guided us, fully explaining each phase and meeting with us after each visit. When we began the treatments we were living in the south Bay and then moved to San Ramon and continued to travel to Dr Tavarez's Menlo Park or San Carlos' offices. Ramona always took into consideration our travel time and always accomadated appointment times that worked best for us. I can not thank Dr. Tavarez and her wonderful staff enough for all the care they have provided my girls. There is no one else I would have trusted to care for my girls and now they have the most gorgeous smiles that will last them a lifetime. read more

Very disappointing experience. Had made an appointment for a consultation. On the phone I was assured that this would be a free consultation, although I had seen the doctor many years ago. Since this was long ago, I was told a new consultation was needed and it would be free. Then, when I come to the appointment, the front person announced that the consultation would cost $165. She apologized and tried to indicate that she had only found out herself on the day of the appointment that there would be a charge. This is neither credible nor does it speak well for their organizational ability. Obviously, they simply don't care about patients or our time. read more
