Driven by Tattoo Fever, Mike's old location for years. I had a cover up I needed for a bad 90s, tribal shoulder tattoo. When I was ready Mike had already moved Tattoo Fever to his new spot so I dropped in and couldn't be more happy with the professionalism Mike and his whole team extended during me and my wife's work. Mike did the infrastructure Tattoo first then we made another appointment for the coloring but Mike said I was going to be ready earlier, as I was so I was. My first tattoo and I was nervous and since it was very personal this was a big moment for me. My father's handwriting and he has passed on. I had the pleasure of Mike Sr. and he was just so kind and empathetic and kept asking if I was ok and shared stories with each other and he was literally the nicest and coolest person that I have met. I will always recommend him and go back for sure. He took his time working out the kinks of the design and he was just so professional- I instantly relaxed and trusted him in his skills and I loved the numbing gel- it made all the difference and allowed me to just be present. I have many tattoos. One didn't come out as I'd like and i needed a coverup. So I have lots of tattoo experience. I had high hopes of working with Dana. I liked the work I saw online and was thrilled he did coverups. I sent him an email and spoke to him on the phone while he looked at the design I wanted. I'm writing this review not to be mean, but to perhaps save people from making the mistake I made. -- When I got there I was struck by how (not clean) the place felt. I"m used to tattoo places going out of their way to be pristine. Dana had no idea what we were going to do - I had to remind him of our conversation. That really made me feel not special. (I had to help him find the email I sent.) He then wrapped my leg in lidocaine for AN HOUR. I had never had an issue with pain. I thought the lidocaine was for a few mins. What a waste of time. And handling the pain is a point of honor for me - like I earned the tattoo. He didn't consult me at all, not once, with the design he drew. When he was ready to put it on my leg,I told him I didn't like a key aspect at all. He said he'd change it when he did the actual tattoo but went ahead and put the original design on my leg anyway. His workstation was dirty / completely grimy. There were so many red flags I should have left but it would have been embarrassing and I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. The main design was done really well. But the background design he put around the main design was horrific. It takes away a TON from the main design. I can't for the life of me figure out why he would do this. If he had had a conversation AT ALL with me at the beginning I would have told him what I really wanted. Damn I placed too much faith in him. While I sat there I noticed that his work certificate was out of date. I asked him about it - and he riffled through some papers and found a current one. Not embarrassed at all. Didn't hang the new one up. I will say - the main tattoo is done well. Very well. But the background is so dark you can't see the outline of the main design because the background is black. I mentioned this to him and he said "it will lighten up, I promise you". It hasn't lightened up. When I was done there was no mention whatsoever about after care. None. good thing I knew. All in all my experience was so disappointing. I found a tattoo removal place where I'll be going (to remove the background) after this is fully healed. My sense is that Dana doesn't have a sense of pride around his work anymore. I think he is a good designer but he's essentially retired and just works there for a place to go. I just felt like he has no pride at all in his work. read more

Woah, totally different experience than what Tank T had last year. Firstly, Dana was the nicest dude on the planet. So easy to work with and very accommodating to what I was looking for. Super happy with the small pieces I got (words on my front ribs and Om on my foot). All for $80. Secondly, there definitely wasn't any smoking in there, and we were watching Wolf of Wallstreet. And I'm sure they would have changed the channel if you asked. These guys are super nice. I was chatting with Mike Jr while Dana was tattooing. Lastly, the use a lidocaine gel to numb the area to be tattooed. I've never had this before, but it was pretty neat not to feel the pain that you would on a foot tattoo. It does kind of take away from the buzz/Adrenalin of getting a tat, so you can totally opt for not if you don't want it. I'll definitely go back. Thanks Dana. read more

I went to this place because they're local and open late. I've been there once before for my first tattoo. It came out fine by Mike Jr. but not thrilled about the price since I did the design. Anyways, I've made a Yelp account today to warn people about this place. This is a matter of enhancing your body or ruining. Come here and you're gambling big time. I told Mike senior one of my peircings looked off and he laughed, said no and pierced it. It's been giving me constant trouble for the past year. It's very sensitive and migrating a lot because it was done WRONG. It's a very important part of my body. So wait to go to a real professional to get your tattoos and piercings. read more

Saw the work Dana did on someone when we first moved to Pelham, and it was bad, not sure if Dana was new or drunk, so be careful. Also, they don't pierce many places, septum, PA, and other places apparently (I just wanted my septum gauged up a little). I've been going to Tattoo Fever for over 20 years. I've been a long time client of Dana. The tattoos he has done on me have been featured in papers and magazines, web articles and comic books. My batman even tied for first place at the Boston Tattoo convention years ago. For the person that left the bad review.... Check your location. I am surprised to see negative reviews on Dana from Tattoo Fever. Dana has been there for at least 25/30 years. He usually has a minimum 2 month wait list to get in for an appointment. I would encourage anyone reading the negative reviews below to go to Tattoo Fever's Facebook page and look at Dana's gallery of work he's done. Mike and Mike Jr are also great artists. You can check out their website. As many times as I have been there there has never been anyone smoking behind the counter, there isn't any smoking allowed in the there. Overall, not a bad shop. I've personally had good results working with Mike Jr in the past. However last time there I made the enormous mistake of letting that ham-fisted and clumsy fella, Dana work on me. I have to blame the entire shop for letting that guy operate there. He has no sense of artistic style, and no a feel for working the skin (very evident to anyone who's had prior work done). After a couple unnecessarily painful hours and a couple hundred bucks, I'm stuck with a horribly executed design that I will need to spend significantly more time and $$$ on now to repair. read more

My husband and I have been going to Tattoo Fever for over 20 years. We always go to Dana and have each gotten incredible tattoos from him. I have 15 tattoos and 13 are from Dana. The shop is always clean and the guys are super friendly. My daughter has gotten a couple piercings there too with Zero problems. Sometimes I have an idea and Dana will draw it out for me and sometimes I bring something in and Dana and I will work on that to make it my own too. DO NOT GO HERE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO. My wrist is absolutely ruined and my "tattoo" is 100% scar tissue. I walked in on a whim one night for a small tattoo on my wrist. I was helped by Mike Sr. The entire tattoo took about 2 minutes to complete...which was not good, according to tattoo artists that i've since spoken with. He used one needle for the entire tattoo, and i've since learned that he should have switched needles after completing the outline before starting the color. Essentially, he turned my wrist to hamburger, and when it scabbed and the scab fell off, 90% of the color went with the scab. I have patches of flesh exposed in the middle of my tattoo. It's awful. It looks 20 years old and it's all scar tissue. It cant even be retouched, it needs to be covered. This was my first tattoo and i'm horrified to get another, which is just sad. I went back to ask him if he could help, and he was rude and combative with me. The only advice he could give me was to buy some "hydrocortisone" cream and hope that the scar tissue flattens out. Cool, so helpful Mike. Obviously, I'd never been in a tattoo shop before, so I wasn't sure how clean they're supposed to look. However, now that I've gone with several friends to get tattoos in other shops, it's clear that Tattoo Fever is a complete shit hole. Walk into Shogun in Salem and compare it to what you see in Tattoo Fever. It's just gross and unprofessional. It's been about 6 months since I got this tattoo. Don't go. read more

I just got my Tragus pierced there last night and it was great. The man who pierced me was very nice. He told me what he was going to do step by step so I felt comfortable. While piercing me he kept asking if I was okay which was nice. It was very painless and at a really good price. Overall I'd highly recommend getting a piercing there. read more

So strange to see so many negative things about Dana at TF. I've had a couple of pieces done by him (koi on my side and a tribal piece on my upper arm) and my wife has also had a couple (Hibiscus flowers on her lower back and anchor on her ankle) and they all came out great! His line work has never been shaky in our experience and his color work is nice too. When my wife got the anchor he told her before he started that it was a "high ware" area and that it might fade quicker than normal because of that, which she appreciated. I was originally referred to him by a friend who had a great portrait of his son done by Dana. He's also reasonable as far as price compared to some other places. read more
