Scott came through and fixed a tattoo that had a lot of meaning. Thank you!!

2nd pic is the initial tattoo and then 1 month later. The spelling on Destiny remained incorrect although original artist said the 2nd "t" was infact an "i" My mom lives in PA and was visiting in July when the tattoo was orignally done. We went back the next day to try to get it fixed with the same artist whose name I will not mention because I don't want to tarnish the good work that they probably do. The artist told us it would heal correctly as it is an "i" in Destiny and not 2 "t's" We were shocked but agreed to come back if needed when my mom came to visit again. The time came for my mom to visit again now in the fall and we set up an appointment to have the tattoo fixed. The day came, Nov 4th @12:30p, and our artist was nowhere to be found after we waited for an hour. 2nd pic is after Scott Hatch was a saved the day. He knew we were waiting for our artist who never showed and he heard our frustration and he stepped in and fixed the issue. We couldn't be happier. He was cool, calm and collected and make us feel super comfortable. To step in the way he did speaks volume. We look forward to working with him again in January for a scar cover-up. Thanks a million times over Scott!!

Erin is amazing! She helped design my tattoo of my son's signature and incorporate it with another design I showed her. She is extremely nice, patient and has amazing tattoos. This was my first tattoo and she made it an amazing experience! read more

Showed up randomly one week night to get a small tattoo on a whim with a friend. Adam took us on even though he had already cleaned down his station. They both came out so good that I booked him for a full day for a bunch of little projects I wanted done. They all came out phenomenal, including some small finger ones. Not only was he extremely patient when I wanted to tweak stencil placement a couple of times, he ENCOURAGED me and made me feel super comfortable. One tattoo we worked on was a wave of words down my leg. He free handed the general shape, took the time to cut each word and tape them to my leg, we checked and rechecked the design, placement, flow etc and I ended up changing the font style and he worked with me every step of the way. I will DEFINITELY be back to work with him for future projects! read more

On a visit to MA, I decided last minute to get a tattoo I'd been wanting as a memorial to my mom. The owner (Cathy?) was incredibly sweet and was able to set up a quick consultation for me with Josh, and then they both squeezed me in for an appointment for the next day. Josh took my idea, combined three separate images and created a tattoo that was exactly what I wanted and perfectly represented my mom. Josh was incredibly patient with me (I apparently have a nervous tic and will swing in my chair), and he has this quiet steadiness and dry sense of humor that instantly put you at ease. I live in PA, and Mayhem and Josh are now my go-to for any new tattoos. It doesn't matter how long the drive is. I cannot recommend the shop or Josh enough. If I could give more stars, I would! read more

The shop is very nice and the staff was nice. No one not even the staff were wearing masks thou and I didn't like that. Unless they make all staff wear masks I wouldn't feel safe enough to go back. But I'm happy for the tattoo i got. read more

Two tattoos by artist Justin. I absolutely love this shop, the artist the atmosphere, everything is inviting. The shop owner Cathy is super sweet and pleasant, she is very accommodating and flexible! The booths are always cleaned and sanitized, and its always a good time, from great conversations to some of the best art work I've seen! 5 stars across the board!! read more

What a fantastic bunch of humans. My requests for my tattoo were specific and important to me as it was to be a memorial piece for my recently deceased brother. Even though my thoughts were jumbled about the tattoo, they were patient with me and gave me a great deal of compassion. Tattoo day!!!... I met Katie...sweet and talented, Katie. She was laser focused on everything I wanted and again, showed so much compassion. She had a hold of the pic/flash I had sent, she talked to me and then went to "draw" for a moment. She came back with it and she had added my brothers name intergrade into it and it was PERFECT. We begin the tattoo... wow, this woman had it all set, all the colors that would make up the color in the pic...but then I didn't want white..."that's okay, we can use this and it will be AWESOME!!" She is great at coming up with a last minute change!! WITH A SMILE PEOPLE! BOTTOM LINE PEOPLE, I am 47, been tattoo'd from Texas to New Hampshire over the last 22 years of my life and I've never met anyone like her. She is gifted. It's been less than 72 hours since she put this on my arm, there is no swelling, no pain, and the tattoo is PERFECT !! it is so beautiful and beyond perfect. Thank you Katie for those 2+hours, you gave me the closure I was so desperately searching for....because of YOU... , I can carry Roger on my arm for the rest of my life!!! I WILL be back for more.... You're my real life blessing. Paula Jo read more

I can't say enough good things about Mayhem. I have over two dozen tattoos and have had them done across the country. This was the BEST experience. I'll never go anywhere else. I went in for a consultation and Kal genuinely listened and took my ideas seriously. Cathy, the owner, was the nicest and coolest shop owner I've ever met. I came back a few days later and got the tattoo I wanted, in the location I wanted, for an incredible price. They all were so professional, so nice and great artists. You'd be a fool to go elsewhere. read more

the first few times i went here we're amazing!! i love my tattoos and the staff were awesome. however recently every time i go something goes wrong with my appointments and i haven't been able to get the tattoo i've been trying to schedule for MONTHS. first my tattoo artist didn't show up, then that happened again so i switched artists. I booked an appointment with a new artist on the website and went to my appointment only for the shop to be closed. both times i received no text or email about any changes in scheduling so i drove their and wasted both my time and gas. honestly it was just a big waste of my time and i'm quite fed up with the service here. i love their art and wish my next could be done with them, but this back and forth and rescheduling is not worth my time, especially for the prices of their artists. i don't think i'll be back again which makes me very sad. read more

I had a walk-in appointment and had a tattoo done in the arch of my foot. I signed and understood the agreement about no guarantee about tattoos on the foot. However, not even a week later, my tattoo was already faded and you could see that the line work was horrible. I decided to give it time to finish healing. I took pictures and emailed the shop 30 days later. I was told that the artist was no longer there and I signed the "no guarantee" policy so I would have to pay $65 to have it fixed. The tattoo was done horribly and the customer service is even worse. Would never go back or recommend anyone to go here read more

History

Established in 1994.

Our History: Resilience & Artistry The name Mayhem wasn't just a choice—it became our story. Founded in 1994, our journey has been a testament to persistence. We’ve survived it all: moving from Broad St. due to urban development, relocating from Main St. after a literal sinkhole, and finally finding home at 89 W. Pearl St. in Nashua... only to face a shop fire just one year later. With a positive attitude and an unbreakable work ethic, we pushed forward to open Mayhem Salem on February 2nd, 2020—just weeks before the global pandemic forced us to close. On June 1st, we were thrilled to reopen both locations, prioritizing the livelihoods of our team of 15 artists and their families. Today, we continue that legacy of care by cleaning around the clock and maintaining the highest safety standards for our clients. We aren't just a tattoo shop; we are a family that refuses to quit. Note on Reviews: Please check our "Not Recommended" section to see the authentic, positive reviews.

Meet the Business Owner: Cathy R.

In 2014, following the loss of my son, I left a corporate career to build something meaningful. My goal was to redefine the tattoo experience—trading the "traditional" shop vibe for high-level professionalism, rigorous safety, and a welcoming atmosphere. After years of managing multiple locations, I decided in 2023 to focus exclusively on our Salem, NH studio. This allows me to provide the "white-glove" service and hands-on attention my clients deserve. I’ve learned that when you prioritize quality and operational integrity over volume, true success follows. We are a proud family of artists: my son and two granddaughters continue the craft at Mayhem Ink, while my daughter, Katie, and I run the Salem studio. When you visit Mayhem Tattoo, you are supporting a family legacy built on resilience, heart, and an unwavering passion for great art.
